Filter by:The aim of this proposal is to identify immune biomarkers, genetic risk, and the clinical consequences of low count monoclonal B-cell lymphocytosis (LC MBL), a common premalignant condition affecting up to 17% of European adults age>40. LC MBL is a precursor to chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL), characterized by a circulating population of clonal B-cells. It is relatively understudied, despite emerging evidence of clinical consequences such as increased risk for life-threatening infections and lymphoid malignancies. Studies reported that male sex, age, family history of CLL, and CLL-susceptibility genetic loci were associated with LC MBL risk. These findings were reported in European ancestry individuals and have not been generalized to other thnicities. This study will provide this missing knowledge using a unique multi-ethnic Israeli population of Jews and Arabs that have one of the highest and lowest age-standardized incidence rates of CLL in the world, respectively, and characterized with different genetic backgrounds.
This study is to assess the MTD and RP2D of NM6603 in adult patients with advanced solid tumors.
The purpose of this study is to safely remove ovarian tissue in pre-pubertal pediatric patients, who are at risk for infertility from their medical treatment, for freezing for future restoration of fertility and hormone function.
As previously reported (IJC Heart & Vasculature 2017; 17: 11.), our epidemiological analysis showing high incidence of cancers in patients with atherosclerotic cardiovascular diseases as compared with those with non-atherosclerotic cardiovascular diseases may imply a clinical possibility of a role of atherosclerosis in cancer developments. In the present study, to address our hypothesis that cancer developments may come with a strength of atherosclerosis, we traced an incidence of cancers in a total of 8,856 patients with coronary artery diseases (CAD) for a median follow-up of 1,095 days (interquartile range, 719-1,469 days) using the Sakakibara Health Integrative Profile (SHIP) database.
The state of health in France appears to be good with regard to major indicators such as life expectancy at birth. However, France is characterized by a high standardized rate of premature mortality (deaths occurring before the age of 65) in comparison with other European countries, with geographical disparities. Between 2006 and 2010, the standardized rate of premature mortality was higher in Auvergne than the national average. Chronic diseases such as cardiovascular diseases, cancers and / or metabolic diseases (including diabetes and obesity) are the main causes of these premature deaths. These diseases have several causes: they depend on the genetic heritage, the way of life and the environment. Family history is a known risk factor for these chronic diseases. Eating habits, insufficient physical activity or physical inactivity, excessive drinking and smoking which promote the occurrence of these chronic diseases are the main risk factors that we can modify. Preventive measures are known and are regularly the subject of public health plans and awareness campaigns targeting lifestyles modification of the populations. These prevention campaigns affect entire population, while the risk factors for chronic diseases are different from one to another, this encourages personalization of preventive measures. The CEPPPIA pilot study falls within this framework and aims to evaluate the feasibility of setting up an individualized prevention program on the modification of health behaviors among people aged 35 to 55, who has a moderate risk of developing chronic diseases and residing in Auvergne territory.
Background: The first nuclear bomb test took place in New Mexico in July 1945. This was called the Trinity test. Researchers want to learn how it affected the health of people who lived in New Mexico at the time of the test. To do this, they want to learn about the diet and daily life of those people at that time. They want to study Native Americans, Hispanic/Latinos, and non-Hispanic/Latino whites. Objective: To learn about the health risks for people who may have been exposed to radiation from the Trinity nuclear test. Eligibility: People who: - Are Native American, Hispanic/Latino, or non-Hispanic white - Are age 70 and older - Lived near the fallout region of the Trinity test and know about lifestyle and dietary patterns in New Mexico in the 1940s and 1950s Design: Participants will be screened with a questionnaire. Participants will answer questions in an interview or a focus group. This will be at a place like an office, tribal or community center, or library. It will take up to 2 hours. The interview or group session will include: - Questions about their and their family members activities and eating habits in the 1940s and 1950s - A card-sorting exercise: There will be cards with pictures and names of certain foods. They will sort the cards into 2 piles: those that were consumed and those that were not. - Filling out a chart of their family members and the foods they ate If participants give permission, their interview or group session will be recorded. ...
The randomized 2x2x2 factorial design placebo controlled trial will enroll 5000 participants (women 60 years or older and men 55 years or older) without known heart disease or prior stroke and without a clear indication or contraindication to any of the study medications. Eligible and consenting individuals will be randomized to receive either the active study medications or placebo (dummy pills) and will be monitored for an average of 5 years. The study will include people from at 10 countries, will be conducted by an international group of scientists and physicians and will be coordinated by the Population Health Research Institute at Hamilton Health Sciences.
The primary purpose for this study is to determine if children who receive Occupational Therapy while they are an inpatient in the hospital will be more motivated to participate in therapy as well as increase the amount of time they will work during that particular session when a therapy dog is present during their sessions. The investigators will also be collecting data regarding a child's heart rate and blood pressure prior to the session starting and ending to determine if having a therapy dog present also helps relax a child.
