The investigators will explore the feasibility and safety of two exercise interventions delivered both in the hospital and in participants' homes. Preteens and adolescents who have had repaired Tetralogy of Fallot (TOF), will be grouped by age and randomly assigned to either an aerobic or strength training exercise program supervised for 12 weeks. An exploratory aim of this study will be to examine changes in fitness level, muscle strength, muscle oxygen extraction and quality of life after the intervention, and compare these measures between groups. At the end of the study, participants and parents will be interviewed to assess their satisfaction and ideas for improvements in the program.
The purpose of this phase I study is to know the pharmacodynamic profile in humans of the sodium heparin of porcine origin of the company União Química, building from the pharmacodynamic data generated its pharmacokinetic profile, due to the dosage limitation of heparin directly in biological samples. The purpose of this series of study has a many-fold intention depicted as follows: to describe and characterize schizophrenic patients' aggressive acts in hospital and community, to identify and specify heterogeneity in their structure, and to look for and set up risk factors for prevention. This study investigates four major issues: (1) Establishing an objective behavior rating scale for measuring aggressive acts; (2) Understanding the characteristics and incidence of aggressive acts by patients with schizophrenia; (3) Exploration of the heterogeneous structure of aggressive acts by patients with schizophrenia; and (4) Identifying the risk factors of aggressive acts of patients with schizophrenia.

The aim of the study is to determine the relative effectiveness of the PediGuardTM , a device manufactured by SpineVision, Inc, for placement of a pedicle screw pilot (drill) hole and for reducing pedicle screw breaches during thoracic and lumbar pedicle screw fixation of the spine. Hypothesis #1 The PediGuardTM will be more accurate for pedicle screw placement as compared to other standard manual techniques of similar size of pedicle screw insertion. At least 90% of screws placed with the PediGuardTM will be positioned correctly in the pedicle (defined as less than 2 mm breach by CT scan). In contrast, only 80% of screws using manual placement will be positioned correctly in the pedicle. Hypothesis #2 The PediGuardTM will not be inferior to fluoroscopic techniques for pedicle screw insertion. Both techniques will achieve at least 90% accuracy in the placement of pedicle screws.

Chronic glomerular diseases are one of the main causes leading to end stage renal disease (ESRD). Hypertension and proteinuria are two modifiable factors promoting the progression of ESRD. Podocyte are terminally differentiated epithelial cells and play a central role in the progression of chronic kidney disease and in the development of glomerulosclerosis. The presence of podocyte in urines (podocyturia) has been documented by several teams with continuous and regular podocyturia during glomerular disease. This facts suggests that podocyturia could become a marker of podocyte loss and glomerular damage. In our university hospital, we developed a technique to evaluate the number of microparticles (cellular fragments) in different biologic samples. The podocytary origin of microparticles will be determinated thanks to specific antibodies. The aim of the present study is: i) to quantify podocyturia during glomerular nephropathies by dosing podocyte microparticles ii) to study the relationship between podocyturia and other biologic markers such as proteinuria iii) to evaluate the effect of angiotensine 2 blockage on podocyturia. This is an open-labelled randomized monocenter cross-over study. Twenty subjects with hypertension and glomerular nephropathy characterized by proteinuria and a normal or slightly altered renal function will be included. Patients will be treated successively by an angiotensin receptor blocker (ARB), losartan and by a thiazide, hydrochlorothiazide, (after a wash out period). We will study the impact of these two therapies on podocyturia. Results will be compared with others markers like proteinuria (and its selectivity). We may finally dispose of a non invasive urinary marker of podocyte lesions responsible for glomerulosclerosis and for ESRD progression. Moreover mechanism of nephroprotection of the ARB may be more comprehensive.

Diabetes increases the incidence and severity of periodontal inflammation and disease, and periodontal disease causes an increase in the severity of diabetes by worsening glycemic control and increasing insulin resistance.The Transmucosal Herbal Periodontal Patch (THPP) is a transmucosal patch containing an herbal compound that has an anti-inflammatory effect on gingival tissue.The primary objective of this study is to determine the efficacy of the Transmucosal Herbal Periodontal Patch (THPP) compared with placebo patch (PP) in reducing gingival inflammation at the site of placement in diabetic patients. We also aim to determine if the THPP decreases gingival inflammation throughout the mouth and the safety of THPP compared with placebo patch when applied to the mucosa in the treatment of gingival inflammation in diabetic patients.
