Gastric Arterial Embolization for Weight Loss

Title: Embolization of Gastric Arterial Supply for Weight Loss Sample size: 10 patients Study Population: Morbidly obese patients who were seen by the bariatric surgery program at Toronto Western Hospital but are either not interested or not eligible for surgery. Study Design: Single center, randomized, prospective, non-blinded pilot study. Study Duration: 12 months (November 2015 - December 2015). Agent: 150-250 micron polyvinyl alcohol particles Primary objective: To further evaluate the safety of embolization of the left gastric and gastroepiploic arteries. To determine if either or both will result in significant weight loss and decrease in waist circumference among obese patients. Primary objective measure: The number of adverse events in a 1 year period will be recorded. The weight change from baseline will be recorded.

Small Bowel Length and Bariatric Surgery Outcomes

The purpose of this study is to determine whether or not the total length of small intestine effects outcomes after bariatric surgery in a cohort of patients preoperatively and up to ten years postoperatively. Roux-en-Y gastric bypass and vertical sleeve gastrectomy will be the surgical groups in this study. We aim to determine if bowel length has a significant effect on long term weight loss or other nutritional deficiencies in this bariatric cohort.

Obinutuzumab and Lenalidomide in Treating Patients With Previously Untreated Stage II-IV Grade 1-3a Follicular Lymphoma

This phase II trial studies how well obinutuzumab and lenalidomide work in treating patients with previously untreated stage II-IV grade 1-3a follicular lymphoma. Immunotherapy with obinutuzumab, may induce changes in body's immune system and may interfere with the ability of tumor cells to grow and spread. Drugs used in chemotherapy, such as lenalidomide, work in different ways to stop the growth of cancer cells, either by killing the cells, by stopping them from dividing, or by stopping them from spreading. Giving obinutuzumab and lenalidomide may work better in treating patients with previously untreated follicular lymphoma.

Effect of a Technology-Based Intervention on Weight Change Post-Bariatric Surgery

The primary aim of this study is to examine the effect of applying a minimal contact technology-based intervention (TECH) at 1-year post-bariatric surgery on weight change compared to Standard Care. Forty participants at 1-year post bariatric surgery will be randomized to TECH or Standard Care for a period of 6 months (12 to 18 months post-surgery). Analyses will be conducted to compare these interventions for differences in body weight, body composition, fitness, physical activity, engagement, psychosocial measures, and intervention cost and cost-effectiveness of each approach. TECH will consist of a wearable monitor that provides feedback on energy expenditure and physical activity, electronic tracking of dietary intake, and integration of an electronic scale to provide comprehensive feedback to the participant on all components of weight management. TECH participants will receive a monthly telephone call from the intervention staff to provide guidance on their weight management efforts.

Helping Employees Lose Pounds

This study will evaluate the effectiveness of financial incentives and messaging tailored to individual goals and aspirations to promote and sustain weight loss. This is a 2-arm randomized controlled trial that will recruit eligible employees at a large university to participate in a 3-month weight loss program, followed by a 3-month follow-up period. The primary outcome will be change in autonomous motivation for weight loss. The study hypothesis is that intervention group participants will have a greater increase in autonomous motivation for weight loss than participants in the control group at 12 weeks.
