NCT ID: NCT02910570 Completed - Clinical trials for Osteoarthritis, Knee

Changes in Skin Autoflouresence Following Weight Loss and Maintenance Using Liraglutide in Knee Osteoarthritis

Start date: November 2016
Phase: Phase 4
Study type: Interventional

This is sub-study to a randomised, double blind, placebo-controlled, parallel group, and single-centre trial investigating the effect of liraglutide on body weight and pain in overweight or obese patients with knee osteoarthritis (NCT02905864). In the parent trial patients will be subjected to a run-in diet intervention phase (week -8 to 0) including a low-calorie diet and dietetic counselling. At week 0 patients will be randomised to receive either liraglutide 3 mg or liraglutide 3 mg placebo as an add-on to dietetic guidance on re-introducing regular foods and a focus on continued motivation to engage in a healthy lifestyle. This sub-study of the parent trial only involves an additional assessment of skin auto fluorescence (AGE concentration) in the preallocation phase and in the main trial phase, i.e. from enrollment (defined as signature of informed consent) to treatment allocation (visits -Tx and T0 in the parent trial visit schedule) and from allocation to end of trial (visits T0 and T15 in the parent trial visit schedule).

NCT ID: NCT02910544 Completed - Clinical trials for Osteoarthritis, Knee

Weight Loss and Physical Activity in Overweight/Obese Individuals With Knee Osteoarthritis

Start date: November 2016
Phase:
Study type: Observational

This is a substudy to a randomised trial investigating the effect of liraglutide on body weight and pain in overweight or obese patients with knee osteoarthritis (NCT02905864). In the parent trial, patients will be subjected to an 8-week diet intervention phase including a low-calorie diet and dietetic counselling, after which.they will be randomised to receive either liraglutide 3 mg or liraglutide 3 mg placebo as an add-on to dietetic guidance on re-introducing regular foods and a focus on continued motivation to engage in a healthy lifestyle. This substudy aims to investigate any changes in physical activity associated with the initial 8-week weight loss intervention.

NCT ID: NCT02906787 Completed - Smoking Cessation Clinical Trials

Behavioral Activation for Smoking Cessation and the Prevention of Post-Cessation Weight Gain

Start date: September 13, 2016
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

The purpose of this research study is to better understand (1) why people gain weight when they quit smoking and (2) whether certain types of smoking cessation (i.e. quit smoking) counseling combined with the nicotine patch help people quit smoking and gain less weight.

NCT ID: NCT02906072 Completed - Obesity Clinical Trials

Low Fat Plant-based Diet Effects on Body Composition Indices

LFPBDS
Start date: January 2011
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

The effect of a diet free from animal-sourced nutrients on body composition in weight reduction programs is not well established. In this non-randomised free living interventional case-control study, the investigators will document the effects of a 10-week, low-fat, plant-based diet supplemented with two daily plant-based meal replacements on body composition indices measured with bioimpedance analysis. Control subjects will be exposed to weekly lectures on the rationale and expected benefits of plant-based nutrition. The investigators hypothesise that low-fat plant based diet supplemented with meal replacements eaten ad libitum allows a significant reduction of body fat without the loss of lean tissue.

NCT ID: NCT02880254 Completed - Obesity Clinical Trials

A Study to Assess the Compliance and Impact on Weight of Kurbo, a Pediatric Centered Weight Loss App

Kurbo
Start date: September 2016
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

Kurbo is a health and fitness app that is targeted toward the pediatric population. It utilizes games and activities to educate children about healthy eating, portion control/size and exercise. It allows for food tracking by using servings of macronutrients and food groups and sets goals for achieving a healthy BMI through modification of diet intake. In addition to being created solely for children and adolescents, a unique feature of this app is an option to speak with a personal health coach on a regular basis to obtain feedback, advice and encouragement. Studies suggest that weight loss outcomes are best with more frequent contact hours but most weight loss clinics, including ours, are not equipped to meet with patients on a weekly basis or even monthly basis. The personal coaching aspect of Kurbo is expected to improve outcomes by increasing user access to feedback and advice. The purpose of this pilot study is to assess the feasibility, compliance with and effects of a pediatric centered weight loss app on BMI z-scores in a group of children and adolescents in a pediatric weight management program. The investigators will assess the impact of the app as an adjunct to current weight management therapy, both with and without the personal health coach (PHC) option.

NCT ID: NCT02878525 Completed - Morbid Obesity Clinical Trials

Laparoscopic Internal Gastric Banding, New Simple and Costless Weight Loss Procedure

LIGB
Start date: October 2016
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

The purpose of this study is to study the effectiveness of laparoscopic internal gastric banding as a treatment for morbid obesity in comparison to laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy

NCT ID: NCT02877004 Completed - Weight Loss Clinical Trials

LLLT for Reducing Waste Circumference and Weight

LLLT
Start date: September 30, 2016
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

The purpose of this research is to gather preliminary information on the effectiveness of Low Level Laser Therapy (LLLT) in helping people reduce their weight gain in the central body region.

NCT ID: NCT02871388 Completed - Weight Loss Clinical Trials

Addressing Modifiable Breast Cancer Risk Factors With Project CONECT

Start date: May 30, 2017
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

The objective of this protocol is to adapt and pilot test an existing lifestyle modification intervention for weight loss for women with overweight or obesity who have had a recent false positive mammography screen. The purpose of this pilot trial is to establish feasibility of Connect Online to Engage Change Tool (CONECT) to promote weight loss through increased physical activity and diet change.

NCT ID: NCT02869659 Completed - Obesity Clinical Trials

Valued EpiGenetic Glycemic ImprovEments Through Weight Loss

VEGGIE
Start date: November 1, 2016
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

This randomized controlled clinical trial will use methylomic and transcriptomic profiling to examine the effects of a weight loss intervention on the cholesterol metabolism gene network in monocytes and adipocytes and investigate the longitudinal relationship between these modifications and glycemic improvements.

NCT ID: NCT02853877 Completed - Weight Loss Clinical Trials

Helping Employees Lose Pounds

HELP
Start date: August 2, 2016
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

This study will evaluate the effectiveness of financial incentives and messaging tailored to individual goals and aspirations to promote and sustain weight loss. This is a 2-arm randomized controlled trial that will recruit eligible employees at a large university to participate in a 3-month weight loss program, followed by a 3-month follow-up period. The primary outcome will be change in autonomous motivation for weight loss. The study hypothesis is that intervention group participants will have a greater increase in autonomous motivation for weight loss than participants in the control group at 12 weeks.
