Effect to the Photobiomodulation in the Burning Mouth Syndrome

Introduction: Burning mouth syndrome (BMS) is a pathology with a low prevalence, affecting between 0.1% and 3.7% of the general population, the ratio between women and men is between 3 and 7:1. It is clinically characterized by a burning pain sensation, recurrent daily for more than 2 hours a day, persistent for more than 3 months and in a way that increases throughout the day and decreases at night, without presenting clinically evident causal lesions on the surface of the oral mucosa, nor changes in clinical sensory tests. The description of the symptomatology varies according to the patient and may be related especially to psychogenic factors. Patients report dry mouth/xerostomia and taste alterations, such as metallic or bitter taste. The most frequent location is on the tongue (tip and lateral borders), but it can also include the anterior palate, gingiva and lips. Since the etiopathogenic factors that produce BMS are not clear, it is difficult to make advances in therapy. The available treatments aim to control the multiple factors related to BMS, thus reducing the symptoms described by patients. Among them, the literature describes low level laser photobiomodulation. The success of the use of low level lasers for treatments in oral medicine is due to their biomodulatory activity and their ability to penetrate tissues. The analgesic action of laser radiation is due to the inhibition of nociceptive mediators and the release by the Central Nervous System (CNS) of endogenous analgesic substances such as endorphins, which hinders the transmission of the painful stimulus. It has been verified that low power laser radiation therapy can be effective in reducing symptoms in patients with BMS. Importantly, low power laser therapy is non-invasive, well tolerated by patients. Objectives: To confirm the hypothesis that the application of low power laser in the areas of oral burning can improve the symptomatology of BMS. Material and methods: We propose a clinical study in 38 patients with idiopathic BMS, prospective, randomized, double-blind. The study universe will be constituted by patients attended at the Oral Medicine, Oral Surgery and Implantology Unit of the Faculty of Dentistry of the University of Santiago de Compostela (USC). The Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS), quality of life (OHIP-14) and subjective sensation of dry mouth xerostomia inventory (XI) questionnaires will be applied to all the patients, and the amount of saliva will be quantitatively determined by means of the unstimulated global saliva test (TSG-I) using a millimetric absorbent paper strip, at the beginning, at the end of treatment and at the re-evaluation at two and six months.

Exercise on microRNA in Osteoarthritis

The present study is a prospective cohort study. This study will be conducted to determine the change in miRNA levels with exercise in knee Osteoarthritis (OA) patients. The main questions that the study aims to answer are: Question 1: Does exercise therapy affect microrna expressions in patients with knee osteoarthritis? Question 2: Does exercise therapy affect quality of life, pain, functional status and depression level in patients with knee osteoarthritis? Participants; demographic information such as age, height, weight will be questioned. Exercises will performed twice a week under supervision and once a week as home program for eight weeks. Before and after exercise treatment, peripheral venous blood samples will taken from both groups. miRNA-146a, miRNA-155, miRNA-221-3p and miRNA-145 gene expressions will studied with the real-time PCR (polymerase chain reaction) method. miRNA-146a, miRNA-155, and miRNA-221-3p, miRNA-145 gene expressions will studied with the Real-time PCR method. The pain will evaluated with the Numeric Rating Scale (NRS), functional status with Western Ontario and McMaster Universities Osteoarthritis Index (WOMAC), depression level with the Beck Depression Inventory (BDI), and quality of life with Short Form-36 (SF-36).

Determination of the Effects of Autogenic Relaxation Exercise and Cold Pillow Application on Vasomotor Symptom Control and Quality of Life in Postmenopausal Women

The aim of this study was to determine the effect of autogenic relaxation exercise and cold pillows on vasomotor symptom control and quality of life. This randomized controlled study was carried out at Kirikkale University Faculty of Medicine Hospital, Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Gynecology Department between 22.06.2018 and 02.01.2019. The sample of the study consisted of 88 people, 44 in the intervention group and 44 in the control group. Since there were case losses in the research, the research was completed with a total of 69 people, 34 in the intervention group and 35 in the control group. The women in the intervention group performed autogenic relaxation exercises and cold pillow application for 8 weeks, and the women in the control group received outpatient care in the hospital. Research data were collected using Descriptive Characteristics Form, Menopause-Specific Quality of Life Scale, Vasomotor Symptom and Practice Follow-up Diary. Data collection tools were applied to the women during the first interview, and at the 4th and 8th weeks after the women were included in the study. In the analysis of descriptive data; number, percentage, mean and standard deviation were used. Independent groups t test was used to determine the difference between groups. The relationship between two independent categorical variables was analyzed using the chi-square test. The Effect of Mandala Coloring Applied to Caregivers Caring for Palliative Care Patients on Perceived Stress, Anxiety Level, and Quality of Life

The word palliative comes from the Latin word "pallium" meaning "cover". The aim of palliative care is not to eliminate the cause of the disease; to alleviate the negative effects of the disease. Mandala painting, which is one of the non-pharmacological applications, is an art therapy technique that can provide psychological support and healing. Mandala painting is a safe and accessible activity that requires no special skills and can be used as a complementary strategy to support mental health. In the literature, it is stated that coloring mandala improves psychological symptoms and relieves the person. The artistic view of nursing is to understand the needs of the individual, the sources of anxiety, anxiety and stress, and then to develop practices that will increase his/her self-confidence and resilience by increasing his/her ability and competence level. Therefore, this study was planned to examine the effect of mandala painting applied to caregivers caring for palliative care patients on perceived stress, anxiety level and quality of life. This research, which is planned as a randomized experimental study with pretest-posttest control group, will be a study for informal caregivers who have patients in the palliative service of fethi sekin city hospital between May 2023 and December 2023. The sample will consist of 80 (40 experimental, 40 control) caregivers who accepted the research that met the research criteria. Experimental group will be composed of caregivers who will paint mandalas. In addition to verbal and written information, the Patient Description Form, Perceived Stress Scale (PSÖ), State-Trait Anxiety Scale (WHO) and Short Form (SF-36) Quality of Life Scale have been applied to the 1st Stage. measurement will be obtained. The program will be implemented for 4 weeks, 4 days a week. 16 pre-selected mandala drawings will be printed separately on A4 papers and a new drawing will be given to caregivers every week. Mandala coloring papers and 12 colored felt-tip crayons will be given to each participant by the researcher. After the end of the sessions, the second measurements will be obtained by applying the Perceived Stress Scale (PSS), State-Trait Anxiety Scale (DSQ) and Short Form-36 (SF-36) Quality of Life Scale.

The goals of this observational study are to evaluate (1) the feasibility, usability, and satisfaction with the Cubii elliptical and (2) the preliminary efficacy of the Cubii elliptical for increasing activity (primary outcome), physical function, and quality of life, and decreasing physical and psychological symptom (e.g., pain, fatigue, depression) severity in people with MS. The main question it aims to answer is how usable and feasible is the Cubii as a mode of exercise for people with MS? Participants will use the Cubii as they choose and keep a written log of this use. They will answer questions about their demographics, MS disease-related variables (e.g., pain, fatigue, falls), activity, exercise, quality of life, and biopsychosocial symptom variables) and provide additional data regarding the feasibility, usability, and satisfaction with use of the Cubii.

The goal of this clinical trial is to determine the feasibility and acceptability of a randomized controlled trial comparing a pet dog walking intervention to an attention control education intervention in adult intensive care unit survivors. The main question[s] it aims to answer are: - What is the feasibility of a pet dog-walking intervention compared to an attention control education intervention on depression, anxiety, cortisol, and quality of life for adult ICU survivors. - What is the acceptability of a pet dog-walking intervention compared to an attention control education intervention on depression, anxiety, cortisol, and quality of life for adult ICU survivors. The secondary question[s] it aims to answer are: - What are the differences in depression, anxiety, serum cortisol, and quality of life between and within a companion dog walking intervention compared to an attention control education intervention for ICU survivors? Participants in the intervention group will be asked to: - Participate in dog walking with their pet dog at least three times per week, for at least 10 minutes each walk, for 8-weeks. - Wear an activity monitor and record their dog walks in a diary. - Complete surveys to measure depression, anxiety, and quality of life at the start of the study, after week 4, and after week 8. - Have blood drawn to measure cortisol levels at the start of the study, after week 4, and after week 8. Participants in the control group will be asked to: - Read educational materials about their pet dog's health once every week (education materials are provided by the researchers). - Wear an activity monitor and record when they read their education materials in a diary. - Complete surveys to measure depression, anxiety, and quality of life at the start of the study, after week 4, and after week 8. - Have blood drawn to measure cortisol levels at the start of the study, after week 4, and after week 8. Participants will be assigned to an intervention group or a control group to see if there are differences in depression, anxiety, serum cortisol, and quality of life.
