The Long-term Effect on Oral Health Using a Powered Toothbrush in Individuals With Mild Cognitive Impairment

For this study, 213 individuals with Mild Cognitive Impairment were recruited. The study period ran from June 2018 to October 2021. The procedure involved a combined screening and baseline examination, including oral, medical, cognitive, and quality-of-life examinations. Re-examinations followed this at 6, 12, and 24 months. The examinations were performed at a university research clinic, and all participants received their usual medical and dental care during the study. At baseline, each participant received a powered toothbrush. Participants were carefully instructed on how to operate the powered toothbrush and were asked to brush for at least two minutes in the morning and evening. No restrictions were given against the use of other oral care products. Compliance with the powered toothbrush was followed by a participant survey conducted at each examination.. Facilitating and improving life by introducing a powered toothbrush as part of oral hygiene may benefit individuals with MCI. This study aimed to investigate whether the use of a powered toothbrush could maintain or improve oral health by reducing dental plaque (PI), bleeding on probing (BOP), and periodontal pocket depth (PPD)≥4mm in a group of individuals with MCI for an observation period of 24 months. Furthermore, to study how oral health changes affect QoL aspects.

Lymphatic Function in Patients With Fontan Circulation: Effect of Physical Training

Background: The Fontan operation has been used to treat complex cardiac anomalies with a single-functioning ventricle. A study performed by Instituto do Coracão-Hospital das Clínicas-Universidade de Sao Paulo (InCor/HCFMUSP)-Brazil, Hospital das Clínicas of Ribeirão Preto-Brazil, department of the University of Aarhus, and Rigshospitalet, Denmark demonstrated an impairment peripheral lymphatic function in Fontan patients compared with healthy controls. However, the ability to increase the frequency of contractions is impaired when stressed by hyperthermia. Lymph vessels in Fontan patients were unable to respond usually. The participants were only able to increase the frequency of contraction twice during stress, compared to a five-fold increase among healthy controls. At the microcirculation level, Fontan patients filtered less fluid into the capillaries interstitial space than healthy controls at venous occlusion pressure. Studies carried out at InCor/HCFMUSP demonstrated that supervised aerobic exercise training improves the functional capacity and neurovascular control in Fontan patients compared to the non-training control group. However, the effect of aerobic exercise and light muscle resistance performed through online rehabilitation has not yet been demonstrated in peripheral lymphatic function and microcirculation. Aim: Evaluate the effects of an aerobic and light muscle resistance exercise program on peripheral lymphatic function, capillary filtration, functional capacity, and quality of life in adults with Fontan circulation. Methods: The function of the superficial lymphatic vessels in the lower leg will be investigated during rest in supine and standing positions, using near-infrared fluorescence imaging using Indocyanine Green (ICG; Verdye, Diagnostic Green GmbH, Germany). The variables analyzed are contraction frequency (contraction/minute), pumping Pressure (mmHg), and packet velocity. Venous congestion plethysmography will perform to analyze the capillary filtration and cardiopulmonary exercise test for functional capacity. The quality of life will be evaluated using the SF-36 Short-Form questionnaire. Expected results: the physical training improves peripheral lymphatic function, capillary filtration, functional capacity, and quality of life in patients with biventricular compared to the control group (no exercise training)

A Study to Assess the Efficacy of CaroRite™ on Psychological Well-being, Oxidative Stress and Quality of Life in Healthy Individuals

The present study is a randomized, placebo-controlled, double-blind clinical study in which 94 individuals will be screened, and considering a screening failure rate of 20%, approximately 76 participants will be randomized in a ratio of 1:1 to receive either CaroRite™ or placebo and will be assigned a unique randomization code. Each group will have at least 30 completed participants after accounting for a dropout/withdrawal rate of 20%. The intervention duration for all the study participants is 90 days.

Effect of Stress Ball on Irritable Bowel Syndrome

Objective: This study will be conducted to evaluate the effect of stress ball on symptom severity, quality of life, depression, anxiety and stress in patients with irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). Material and Method: The data of the randomized controlled experimental study will be collected at the gastroenterology outpatient clinic of Erzurum City Hospital. A simple randomization list was created with the Random Allocation Software program and it will be carried out with a total of 56 patients diagnosed with IBS, including 28 experimental and 28 control groups. Patients in the experimental group were asked to squeeze the stress ball for at least 10 minutes every day for 4 weeks. No treatment will be applied to those in the control group. Patient information form, IBS symptom severity score, IBS quality of life scale, Depression-Anxiety-Stress scale will be used to collect research data. The goal of this randomized control trial study is to evaluate the effect of the happy aging education program on active aging determinants, and quality of life among community-based Muslim older adults compared with the control group who avail only health education. Q1.• What is the effect of the BIHAAAP on physical, mental, and behavioral aspects of active aging among community-dwelling older adults in the compression to the control group who only avail health education? Q2. What is the effect of the BAAEP on the quality of life among community-dwelling older adults in Pakistan? Treatment: (1) Face-to-face: 6 days, (2) home-based 12 weeks. 1. Face to Face: (1) Orientation, the aging process, the importance of exercises in old age, coping strategies, and the beneficial effects of body movements in Muslim prayers. (2) Hands-on training regarding proper body movement in Muslim five-time prayers. 2. Home-based treatment: (1) A Pictorial booklet consisting of tips to spend happy life in old age and a workbook to complete. (2) Audio video recorded by a physiotherapist on the proper body movements in five-time prayers to follow at home shared through whats app number of at least one family member if the person does not have a smartphone. Comparison group: One-day orientation. After the trial, the control group availed of the booklet and video-recorded Muslim prayers-like exercises.
