Filter by:This study evaluates the benefits of exoskeleton-based exercise for improving mood and cognition in people with Parkinson's disease (PD). Participants with PD will be assigned one of three treatments delivered over 8-weeks: exoskeleton exercise (experimental intervention), non-exoskeleton exercise (active comparator), and wait-list control (no treatment).
The long term goal of this work is to reduce disability among people with Parkinson disease (PD) by enabling them to cope with cognitive decline so they can perform and participate in desired activities and roles. This project focuses on prospective memory, or the ability to remember to execute delayed intentions at the appropriate moment in the future. The current study tests the effects of two primary cognitive intervention approaches (process training & strategy training) on prospective memory performance in PD. The investigators will conduct a single-blind randomized controlled trial in which individuals with mild cognitive impairment in PD (PD-MCI; N = 90) will complete pre-training assessment, randomization to training group (control, process training, strategy training), four training sessions (process and strategy training groups), and post-training assessment.
Postural instability is associated with falls and a decreased quality of life in Parkinson's disease (PD). Evidence supports physical activity rather than levodopa for postural instability management. Considering the proven effects of the Stand-up Paddle (SUP) activity on postural instability in sedentary people, the investigators wanted to develop this aquatic activity in a swimming pool on static conditions (Aqua SUP) for PD patients. The objective is to assess the postural instability change by measuring the Mini-Balance Evaluation Systems Test (miniBESTest) after 8 weeks of Aqua SUP compared to physiotherapy in PD patients with baseline postural instability.
The major purpose of this study is to assess the efficacy of CBD on motor symptoms of Parkinson's Disease (PD), and secondarily to study the safety and tolerability of CBD and other efficacy, particularly regarding tremor in PD. The study has been powered to detect a clinically significant reduction in Movement Disorder Society (MDS) Unified Parkinson's Disease Rating Scale (UPDRS) Part III motor scores. This is a 1:1 parallel, double-blind, randomized controlled trial (RCT) with 60 participants. The investigators will be recruiting up to 75 participants; the goal is to have 60 participants (30 in CBD group and 30 in placebo group) complete the study. The study drug is obtained from the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA).
The first aim of the present study was to investigate reliability, validity and responsiveness to the minimal clinically important difference, which is defined as the smallest change in score corresponding to clinically meaningful change realized by patient, of the squares test in people with PD. The second aim of the study is to determine the relationship between hand function and both trunk control and balance in PD population.

The full program is focused on identifying and reducing risk factors surrounding falls. Based on previous research, we believe that occupational therapy group classes and adaptive yoga are an ideal pairing to reduce fall risk. The occupational therapy sessions will consist of lecture, group discussion, and activities designed to target biological, behavioral, environmental, and socioeconomic factors that contribute to fall risk specifically for people with Parkinson's disease.
Parkinson's disease (PD) is the second most common neurodegenerative disease. Multiple system atrophy (MSA) is a relentlessly progressing rare neurodegenerative disease of unknown etiology. In early stages of the disease, PD and MSA symptoms are very similar, particularly MSA-P where Parkinsonism predominates. The differential diagnosis between MSA-P and PD can be very challenging in early disease stages, while early diagnostic certitude is important for the patient because of the diverging prognosis. Voice disorders are a common early symptom in both diseases and of different origin. The ambition and the originality of this project are to develop a digital voice-based tool for objective discrimination between PD and MSA-P.
A randomized open clinical trial to assess the added value of a comprehensive rehabilitation program on fall prevention and improve participation and activities of daily living. Baseline assessment, 6-month experimental intervention (experimental group) vs. usual rehabilitation programs and assessment at end of treatment and six months after treatment will be performed.
