The Effects of Chia on Overweight/Obese Women

The purpose of the study is to examine the effect of chia seed consumption on body composition, blood pressure, blood glucose, satiety, mood, joint pain, and dietary displacement in overweight and obese females (18-45years). It is hypothesized that consuming chia seeds will bring about a positive change in body composition (lower % body fat), satiety, mood, joint pain, and blood pressure, lower blood glucose levels, increased fiber and improved nutrient intake, in overweight/ obese females.

Examining the Effects of a Team-based Running Program

The investigators are interested in finding accessible interventions for youth and young adults that help promote long-term positive mental health functioning. They will be investigating the effects of Team Unbreakable, a 13-week, twice weekly running group, on mental health symptoms, memory, and attention. This intervention will hopefully improve mental health functioning in youth aged 17-25 that are at high risk of developing mental health disorders. Sessions will consist of 30 minutes of running under the supervision of group leaders and coaches. The group will steadily increase the distance and time spent running versus walking, with the goal of having everyone run a 5 km race together at the end of 13 weeks. Once a week, youth will be provided with education on a variety of topics related to health and running. Youth will complete measures before, during, and after the program to assess outcomes.

Abbreviating Mindfulness-Based Therapy for Depressive and Anxious Symptoms

Symptoms of depression and anxiety are extremely prevalent in the population. Unfortunately, patients often face barriers to accessing mental health care, particularly psychotherapeutic interventions, including long wait-times and demanding therapeutic protocols. For instance, Mindfulness-Based Therapy (MBT) has demonstrated effectiveness at decreasing symptoms of depression and anxiety, and improving wellbeing; however, 'traditional' MBT can demand over 30 hours of clinical time, and 50-60 hours of homework, all of which can be barriers to care. The goal of this project is to test the effectiveness of an Abbreviated MBT (<10 hours of clinical time and <10 hours of homework) in reducing symptoms of depression/anxiety and improving wellbeing. If effective, this Abbreviated MBT could reduce barriers to accessing mental health care.

This study that aims to evaluate the psychophysiology of premenstrual mood disorders (PMDs) at baseline and after treatment with sertraline. Participants will include women with PMDs and healthy female controls. Participation involves a baseline visit to determine eligibility and three study visits that include questionnaires and stress reactivity assessment via an acoustic startle paradigm. Female participants with PMDs will receive sertraline during the premenstrual phase.

Music Therapy Improves the Mood of Patients Undergoing Hematopoietic Stem Cells Transplantation

ABSTRACT The transplant allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT Alo) is a therapeutic medical treatment carried out in combat various neoplastic hematologic disorders, congenital, genetic or acquired. In this procedure, which combines high-dose chemotherapy and or radiation and has a degree of high cytotoxicity, the patient goes for a social solitary confinement, which causes psychological distress, pain, anxiety, mood disorders and can lead to depression. The music therapy was applied and the purpose of decreasing the insulation. This is a randomized controlled study. Method: Apply the intervention of live music sessions through the techniques of music therapy; assess and quantify through the visual analog scale (VAS) and numeric. The dependent variables, pain, anxiety and mood of the participants selected randomly for the experimental group music therapy (EGM) n=50, and compare with the control group (CG) n=50, which received only the standard treatment.
