Beijing Hospital Atherosclerosis Study

The Beijing Hospital Atherosclerosis Study (BHAS) is a prospective, single-center, observational cohort study performed at the Beijing Hospital in Beijing, China. Subjects enrolled in this study will be the consecutive patients undergoing coronary angiography in the hospital. Blood samples are taken immediately before the angiographic procedure. Clinical and angiographic characteristics are recorded. All patients will have routine follow-up at 6 months and 1 year postprocedure, then yearly thereafter. Follow-up includes mortality, myocardial infarction (MI), stroke, rehospitalization, coronary revascularization procedures, life styles, and medication use. The primary end point for the study will be the major adverse cardiovascular events (MACE), defined as death from any cause, nonfatal myocardial infarction, nonfatal stroke and revascularization. This study has been reviewed and approved by the Ethics Committee of Beijing Hospital. All enrolled individuals will be received written notice of the intended use of their blood samples and provided written consent. The major objectives of the BHAS Study are to (1) establish a prospective cohort and a biological sample bank in ethnic Chinese with coronary angiography, (2) identify baseline new biosignature profiles such as novel biomarkers via metabolomics approach associated with the subsequent clinical events, (3) assess the use of molecular profiles from multiple platforms (eg, genomics, proteomics, and metabolomics) integrated with readily available clinical information for improved risk classification for cardiovascular events, and (4) provide clearer understanding of underlying disease processes.

Spectral-domain Optical Coherence Tomography Findings in Retinal Vessel Occlusion

Retinal vessel occlusions might lead to ischemia of the inner retina, more severe so in artery occlusions. Intracellular edema may develop and decrease transparency of those layers, showing retinal edema. In spectral domain optical coherence tomography (SD-OCT) retinal reflectivity changes as a result of retinal edema. The investigators examine the reflectivity changes of different retinal layers between healthy eyes and eyes with retinal artery occlusion and ischemic or non-ischemic vein occlusions. Aim of the study is to evaluate whether those changes can be used to measure the level of ischemia in the inner retina.

Myocardial Injury and Severe Pneumococcal Pneumonia

Hypothesis: The "novo" cardiovascular events (CVE)in patients with severe community-acquired pneumonia (CAP) are frequent (17%) and could be associated with both direct pneumococcal myocardial invasion, toxin delivery (pneumolysin) or different biomarkers (histones, NETs(neutrophil extracellular traps), IL (Interleukin)-1b,h-Fabp (heart-Fatty acid bindding protein) ).The CVE frequency and its impact on outcome in patients without prior heart disease (CP) has not been studied. Objectives:1) To determine the incidence of myocardian injury (MI) and CVE in patients with CAP without CP evaluated by non-invasive techniques (Echocardiograph and MRI) and biomarkers levels (Tn-I (Troponin I), h-Fabp, NT-proBNP (N-terminal pro-brain natriuretic peptide) histones, NETs, IL 1b); 2) To assess if DMA and CVE are related to the etiology and their impact on outcome , 3) To investigate the presence of myocardial scarring by MRI and its relationship with etiology and MI, and 4) To identify prognostic factors of DMA and CVE to determine level of risk.

The Role of Percutaneous Angioplasty in Ischemic Leg Ulcer Healing

The aim of our study was to evaluate the technical and clinical effectiveness of PTA in the management of ischemic foot ulcers. All consecutive patients presenting with a foot ulcer at the outpatient Vascular surgery clinic of our hospital were evaluated. If non-invasive parameters suggested peripheral arterial disease (PAD) anatomic imaging (CTA and/or DSA) was performed and a PTA was carried out when feasible during the same session. All patients were followed until healing, amputation, death, or for at least two years. Short-term and long-term clinical success of PTA was evaluated based on ulcer size and appearance. Patients with worsening ulcers after PTA underwent bypass grafting or amputation.

Implication of Cardiac Shock Wave Therapy on Coronary Artery Disease

Coronary heart disease (CHD) is a public health care challenge. There are three types of treatment for CHD, medication, percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) and coronary artery bypass graft (CABG). However, some end-stage CHD patients lost the chance to get those treatment. Cardiac shock wave therapy (CSWT) is a new developed therapy for these patients, which is used in tens of countries all over the world. Safety, invasiveness, effectiveness is its advantage. Ischemia condition can be improved after CSWT. There are only three cities in China run the program of CSWT, which are Kunming, Beijing and Shanghai. The investigators designed a randomized double-blind study to evaluate the effectiveness and safety of CSWT.
