Filter by:The primary objective of this study is to test the hypothesis that a SSRI plus quetiapine SR (Seroquel SR) will result in superior early (first 1-3 weeks of treatment) stabilization of panic symptoms in SSRI-resistant, comorbid Panic Disorder patients versus a SSRI plus placebo.
A 12-week, randomized, double-blind, parallel-group, placebo-controlled trial of citicoline as an add-on therapy will be conducted in 200 outpatients with bipolar I disorder and cocaine dependence. Patients will complete mood and memory assessments weekly, in addition to completing self-report measures for cocaine (and other substances, like alcohol) use and craving. Participants will receive manual-driven Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT: two sessions each week for 4 weeks followed by weekly sessions, total 16 sessions) specifically designed for persons with bipolar 1 disorder and substance abuse, and provided by a therapist with experience in CBT. The sessions may be videotaped for training purposes and may be viewed by the researchers, the therapist, and Dr. Schmitz, a clinical researcher at the University of Texas Houston who is the developer of the CBT for bipolar disorder and substance dependence used in the study. Before being videotaped, the patient will sign an "Authorization for Audio Recordings, Photography, or Other Images for Non-Treatment Purposes" to further understand how the videotape will be used, and by whom. The patient will be given the option to review their videotape to view their therapy session. Once the patient has completed all study procedures, or had discontinued the study, the tape will be destroyed, until then the tape will kept in the patient's confidential study file. Further, patients will return to the clinic three times a week for urine drug tests (UDS). 200 patients are expected to be consented for this study and all study procedures will take place at the clinic on the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center campus. All non-study medications are not part of the study. Non-study medication will be verbally self-reported by the patient at the time of enrollment into the study. The patient will be responsible for the costs of their non-study related medications. The patient will manage their non-study medications with their personal doctor, including any changes in these medications. However the protocol has concomitant medication algorithm in the event that a change in the medication schedule needs to be made by a study doctor. If a study doctor requests a laboratory test for the patient, it will be paid for by the clinic. Otherwise, the patient will be responsible for all costs (including laboratories) associated with their non-study medications.
The purpose of this study is to examine the feasibility and acceptability of an adaptation of Interpersonal Psychotherapy for Depressed Adolescents (IPT-A) that includes greater and more structured involvement of the parents in the treatment.
Recent needs assessments suggest that difficulties exist in care coordination between emergency medical services (EMS) systems and primary care for injured adolescents with alcohol problems and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). This project will implement, evaluate, and disseminate the adolescent trauma support service model program that aims to enhance coordination between EMS systems and primary care/community services.
The purpose of this open label study in children and adolescents is to examine the acute and long-term effects of aripiprazole on problem behaviors associated with autism spectrum disorders and development in areas which appear to be affected by autism spectrum disorders.
Whether high-dose omega-3 fatty acids supplement would be an effective treatment in patients with major depressive disorder during pregnancy and breast-feeding.
Purpose: We are proposing to examine, via open label trial, the use of Seroquel® for patients with moderate to severe functional bowel symptoms who are not receiving adequate relief from their symptoms on their present regimen of SNRI or TCA antidepressant agents. Participants: Primary eligibility will be determined of patients at The UNC Center for Functional GI & Motility Disorders Clinic who score in the moderate to severe range on the Functional Bowel Disorders Severity Index (FBDSI ≥ 37) who have failed or have incomplete treatment responses of medications including at least one prior trial of antidepressant medication. Procedures (methods): We will monitor several patient and symptom related outcomes, as well as evaluate health related quality of life, psychological distress and related psychosocial measures to determine if the addition of Seroquel® over and above the use of an antidepressant improves clinical response based on an adequate relief measure as well as selected secondary outcomes. We will also determine when treatment benefit is related to effects on pain, the associated psychological co-morbidities seen in this population, or both factors.
Purpose of this non-interventional study (NIS) is to assess the effect of the participation in an integrated care program on treatment outcomes in patients treated with Seroquel for schizophrenia.
Amplitude changes of the N1 and the N1/P2 ERP component in response to different tone intensities have been suggested as a correlative of central serotonergic activity. A strong loudness dependence amplitude increase (strong intensity dependence) reflects low serotonergic neurotransmission and vice versa. Many researchers assumed that the brain serotonergic activity could influence treatment response of highly selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors in depression and anxiety disorders. There are a couple of studies reporting associations of N1 amplitude intensity dependence with response to Citalopram (positive correlation) and Reboxetine (negative correlation) treatment in major depressive disorder patients. But so far there have been no reports about associations between ERP N1 and antidepressant response in GAD patients. So, it would be very interesting to explore the correlations between ERP N1 amplitude change and the Escitalopram treatment responsiveness in GAD patients.
