Filter by:A study to evaluate the efficacy and safety of dasotraline in children 6 to 12 years of age with Attention-Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) in a simulated classroom setting.
Early improvemrnt, decreased 20% in the 17 items of Hamilton Depression Rating Scale (HAMD-17) at the second week of the treatment of major depression disorder (MDD), can arguably predict the remission at the 12th week. Our observation study including 80 MDD patients will access resting-state function MRI to finding factors which infuencing early improvemrnt, respone and remission of antidepressants.
Almost 18 million US adults have alcohol use disorders (AUD), with one third of these individuals also diagnosed with anxiety disorders (AXD). The coexistence of AUD and AXD imposes a high burden via healthcare costs and lost productivity. To date, existing treatment approaches for addressing AUD/AXD comorbidity have been only modestly effective and there is a lack of adequate research to guide treatment decisions. The Unified Protocol (UP) is a transdiagnostic, cognitive-behavioral therapy that has shown efficacy in treating emotional disorders. The efficacy of the UP to facilitate abstinence from alcohol consumption in individuals with comorbid AUD/AXD has also been examined, with results from this study indicating a reduction from baseline in drinks consumed per day. However, further evaluation of the UP for managing AUD/AXD is warranted. In this clinical trial, the investigators will further assess the UP's effectiveness in reducing alcohol consumption in patients with comorbid AUD/AXD. Participants will be randomized to one of two conditions: 1) treatment with the UP or 2) treatment with therapist-guided Take Control (TC; a computerized alcohol reduction program). In addition, in a subset of twenty-five participants, functional magnetic resonance scanning (fMRI) will be used to examine the effects of the UP on changes in brain activity in areas important to regulation of emotional and reward processes implicated in excessive alcohol consumption. The researchers' primary hypotheses are that the UP group will, compared to the TC group: 1) be superior in acute symptom reduction from pre- to post-treatment, and 2) evidence greater reductions in percent days heavy drinking, percent days of drinking per week, and alcohol craving.
The aims of COMET are the implementation and evaluation of effectiveness and cost-effectiveness as well as processes of a collaborative and stepped care model for depressive, anxiety, somatoform and/or alcohol abuse disorders within a multiprofessional network in comparison to routine care. In a cluster-randomized controlled effectiveness trial 570 patients will be recruited by 38 general practitioner practices and followed with a prospective survey at four time points. The primary outcome is the change in health-related quality of life from baseline to 6-months follow-up. Secondary outcomes include disorder-specific symptom burden, response, remission, functional quality of life, cost-effectiveness, evaluation of processes and other clinical and psychosocial variables.
Substance use disorders (SUDs) are a prevalent and impairing condition, particularly among trauma exposed individuals. The current proposal aims to address the critical need for targeted direct SUD prevention in this population by intervening on a novel, malleable risk factor for SUD common among trauma-exposed individuals: sleep disturbance. Sleep disturbance prospectively predicts the development of SUD and may confer risk for SUD by increasing stress reactivity, decreasing decision-making abilities, and ultimately promoting substance use to relieve negative affect, a core etiological factor in SUD. However, to our knowledge, no experimental studies have determined whether improving sleep leads to reductions in SUD risk. As such, the current study will use a randomized controlled trial design to test the effects of brief behavioral treatment for insomnia (BBTI) against a waitlist control among a sample of trauma-exposed young adults with poor sleep and risk for SUD (N = 60). We aim to determine the direct and indirect effects of condition (BBTI vs. waitlist control) on SUD symptoms, substance use-related problems, coping motives, and posttraumatic stress symptoms through improvements in sleep. Furthermore, we will test direct and indirect effects of condition on theoretically proposed mechanisms underlying the association between sleep disturbance and SUD risk (i.e., stress reactivity, cravings in response to stress).
The PROLED study is a prospective and longitudinal study of patients with Eating Disorders. Annual interviews and collection of biological samples are done, as well as during changes in disease course e.g. during hospitalization. Included are qualitative interviews, psychometric tests, questionnaires which are used to collect data on psychopathology. There is also collection of blood, urine and faeces.

The investigators are developing and testing a Smartphone-based cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) "app" for body dysmorphic disorder (BDD). The investigators hypothesize that app-based CBT for BDD will be feasible and acceptable to individuals with BDD, and will improve body image concerns and related outcomes.
Major Depressive Disorder is one of the most common mental diseases,which increases health-care costs and the financial burden to families and societies. Considering its complex clinical symptoms and diversity of comorbidity, depressive disorder's recognition，diagnosis，and antihistone are based on symptomatology,which is lack of multidimensional diagnosis technique based on clinical pathological characteristics,as well as lack of individualized therapy strategy based on quantified evaluation. Besides, other physical diseases，such as nervous system diseases, cardiovascular diseases，endocrine diseases, have the high comorbidity of depressive disorder. However，there is no precise diagnosis technique or standardized therapy strategy. With all those taken into consideration,our study is aimed to adopt E-mental health and m-Health to explore multi-dimensional diagnosis, individualized therapy and management technique based on molecular biology,nerve electrophysiology，and neuroimaging technology etc.
The investigators have developed an optical system that measures the coagulation status of patients in vivo in a non-invasive manner. The system is based on a small optical sensor that emits coherent light into the skin and collects the reflected light from the red blood cells in the blood vessels in the skin under the sensor. The sensor is placed on the fingertip, and during a brief period of occlusion of blood flow by a small pneumatic cuff, red cell movement becomes Brownian in nature and is thereby affected by the viscosity of the blood. In patients who have a bleeding tendency, red blood cell movement will be faster, while in patients with a hypercoagulable state the red cell movement will be slower. Treatment with anticoagulant medications is expected to affect the movement of the red blood cells and these changes can be detected by the sensor. The investigators plan to test the device in normal subjects and in subjects taking Coumadin, direct oral anticoagulants, antiplatelet drugs and heparin-based medications. The investigators will determine whether anticoagulants affect the noninvasive measurement and compare the results with standard laboratory tests of coagulation.
