Filter by:The goal of the study is to characterize preclinical Alzheimer's Disease and related dementias (AD/ADRD) neuropathology in a selected group of young adults with youth-onset diabetes, and an age-similar group of young adults without diabetes.
Our laboratory is investigating the physiological outcomes and health benefits of the consumption of high-quality carbohydrates. One important aspect of the high-quality carbohydrate characteristics is a slow and sustained digestion and glucose release to the blood. In the proposed study, the investigators will evaluate the consumption of different types of slowly digestible carbohydrates (SDCs) and their beneficial effects including moderation of the glycemic response profile (postprandial glycemic response, PPGR) and stimulation of the gut-brain axis, which controls appetite and food intake. This stimulation will be evaluated in terms of second-meal food intake and the circulatory level of appetite-suppressing gut hormones (such as glucagon-like peptide-1).
The transplant of the insulin-producing cell into the liver (Islet transplant) has been proven an effective and valuable treatment for type 1 diabetics patients with poor blood sugar. However, Islet transplant is currently limited by the number of pancreas organ donors and the need for lifelong medication requirements such as antirejection drugs. The investigators have learned that Regulatory T cells (Tregs), a small subset of a cluster of differentiation 4+ (CD4+) T cells, have emerged as the major contributor to self-tolerance by preventing the initiation of unwanted immune activation and by suppressing ongoing immune responses to limit bystander tissue destruction. It has been suggested that infusion of Tregs before extensive graft damage may improve long-term graft outcomes. In this trial, we propose to study Analogous cryopreserved PolyTregs (cePolyTregs). cePolyTregs is a product with the same in vivo functionality to that of the non-cryopreserved PolyTregs.
Assessment of the proportion of pediatric patients with type 1 diabetes with access to remote monitoring
410 Dutch type 2 diabetes patients will be randomized using a 5:1 ratio to intervention group versus control, to a lifestyle intervention program given via a mobile application and digital platform. Active participants will undergo diabetyping, where blood glucose and c-peptide responses to a glucose challenge are measured, and be recommended to follow a calorie-restricted (minimum 500 kcal deficit) low-carbohydrate, or restricted carbohydrate (120g) Mediterranean diet and customized exercise program for a period of 24 weeks. Individuals will then be followed for a period of 2 years following the intervention.
The purpose of this study is to pilot and assess the feasibility of implementing an artificial intelligence-assisted individualized lifestyle modification intervention for glycemic control in rural populations, which can be delivered even with regular landline phone service. This study will provide us with the knowledge to plan a well-powered optimization trial in the future to develop an optimal (low-cost) intervention package that can be delivered in a sustainable manner to the rural portions of America.
A two-arm non-blinded randomised feasibility protocol trial designed to assess the feasibility, safety, and acceptability of an intermittent low energy diet (ILED) vs best National Health Service (NHS) care in women with gestational diabetes and obesity in Greater Manchester.
The objective of this study is to identify key indicators in the follow-up of subjects with different pathologies related to both the person's environment, as well as the perception of their health and general quality of life and related to their disease. To this end, a cross-sectional observational study of qualitative data collection through questionnaires, mostly validated, has been proposed to try to identify these indicators. Based on these questionnaires, the specific objectives of this study are as follows: - Unify questionnaires - Assess data quality - Identify key indicators, through a factor analysis - Design a second reduced version of the questionnaires collecting the key indicators and eliminating those items that are exclusive to each other. In order to identify the key indicators, it will be necessary to measure at least 30 subjects from each pathological group, as well as a cohort of at least 100 subjects without pathologies in order to validate and contrast the results. The subjects will be recruited through the own databases of participants in previous trials of the Institute of Biomechanics of Valencia, who have given written consent to be contacted in order to request their participation in any other study where their profile may fit. They will also be recruited and contacted through the collaborating associations (Parkinson Valencia Association, Valencian Diabetes Association, Consorci Hospital General Universitari de València, Arnau de Vilanova Valencia Hospital). The surveys will be included in an online platform specialized in the realization of questionnaires. This data will be exported for further storage, management and analysis. All information will be anonymized for processing and analysis, and may be used under the terms and conditions dictated by the current legal framework. To participate in the study, participants must accept the terms and conditions included in the first page of the survey embedded in the online platform, where the aspects related to the study methodology and the use of them data are exposed. The statistical analysis will treat the data provided by the variables and how they are related to each other, testing differences according to the characteristics of the patient and clinical indicators. For that, non-parametric techniques such as the χ² test, the Kruskal-Wallis test and cluster analysis will be used.
This will be a prospective randomized clinical trial comprising of n=300 diabetic patients, randomized to either dynamic (n=150) or conventional MPI (n=150) strategy. Healthcare resources utilization of each patient will be tracked. Patients will be followed up for short term outcomes and for long term outcomes.
The objective of the study is to improve glycemic control in inpatient/ICU settings using real- time continuous glucose monitors (CGM) data for insulin titration. It may help reduce Coronavirus disease 2019 patient contact with healthcare workers as well.
