Individuals with kidney failure receiving maintenance hemodialysis (HD) have high mortality rates, driven largely by cardiovascular causes. Volume-related factors are critical, modifiable contributors to cardiovascular complications. Reversing volume overload has been shown to improve blood pressure and cardiac remodeling. Use of loop diuretics may represent a pragmatic, low-cost, and low-burden strategy to improve outcomes in people receiving HD. Lack of data on optimal furosemide dosing, safety, and acceptability are barriers to expanded use. This study investigates whether oral furosemide is safe and effective at increasing urine volume in HD patients.

This randomized, partially-blinded, active comparator-controlled was conducted at multiple sites globally. The composition of QVLP used in this study includes a mix of recombinant H1, H3, and two B hemagglutinin proteins expressed as VLPs and is based on the 2020-2021 influenza virus strains. In this study, 3 dose levels (15 μg/strain, 30 μg/strain, and 45 μg/strain) of QVLP were planned to be tested in combination with 2 dose levels of AS03 adjuvant (full and half dose) in a single-dose regimen to select a dose level of QVLP and adjuvant dose level-combination that is safe and effective for further development. Participants participated in this study for up to approximately 13 months, during which the first visit was scheduled for screening (up to 7 days in advance of vaccine administration) and the second visit on Day 0 was scheduled for vaccine administration. Telephone contacts were made on Day 1, Day 8, and monthly (starting after Day 28) until the end of the study for safety assessments, including concomitant medication use review. Blood draws at the clinic site for key safety assessments were made on Day 3, and Day 28 and for key immunogenicity assessments on Day 0, Day 28, Day 182 (6-month follow-up), and Day 365 (12-month follow-up).

Primary Objective: • To evaluate overall safety and tolerability of SIR1-365 in patients with severe COVID-19 Secondary Objectives: - To assess the clinical efficacy of SIR1-365 in patients with severe COVID-19 - To assess the effects of SIR1-365 on multiple inflammatory biomarker levels including C-reactive protein (CRP), ferritin, lymphocyte and neutrophil counts, cytokines, and chemokines - To assess the effects of SIR1-365 on biomarkers indicative of target engagement in patients with severe COVID-19 - To assess the effects of SIR1-365 on biomarkers indicative of kidney injury in patients with severe COVID-19 - To assess the effects of SIR1-365 on biomarkers indicative of cardiovascular endothelial cell damage in patients with severe COVID-19 - To characterize plasma pharmacokinetics (PK) of SIR1-365 in patients with severe COVID-19
The clinical study will compare two lubricated polyurethane male condoms of different thickness with a marketed lubricated control male condom made of natural rubber latex. This crossover study will randomize 300 heterosexual couples to the sequence in which they use five condoms of each of the three study condom types. The clinical failure (breakage and slippage) rates of the two polyurethane condoms will be compared to the clinical failure (breakage and slippage) rate of commercial natural rubber latex control condom using a statistical test of non-inferiority. The study will also compare the acceptability of the two polyurethane condom different thickness with that of the natural rubber latex control condom obtained from interviews and questionnaires with subject couples.
This is a randomized controlled trial. The purpose of this study is to see if patients whose uterine incision (hysterotomy), at the time of scheduled cesarean section, is closed with barbed suture, have less blood loss compared to women whose incision is closed with the standard suture (vicryl). The primary outcome is quantification of blood loss (QBL). Secondary outcomes include time for hysterotomy closure, need for additional hemostatic sutures, rate of endometritis, use of hemostatic agents, and differences in pain which will be assessed by a telephone screening in the days following delivery. Study participation will last 1 year and will include the following research procedures : 1. Randomization to barbed suture vs. standard suture 2. Collection of data for primary and secondary outcomes 3. Telephone survey 2 weeks following the procedure to assess pain, bowel/bladder habits, and evidence of wound infection. The barbed suture is approved by the FDA for use in soft tissue approximation and this is not an off-label usage.
Mentorship is essential to job satisfaction and promotion among academic physicians, and literature suggests that a single mentor is rarely sufficient. The investigators are studying whether implementation of a secondary mentorship program among physicians at their institution leads to improved job satisfaction over 6 months.
