Cardiovascular Effects of Racemic Epinephrine Pellets

The primary aim of this study was to determine if topical racemic epinephrine pellets affect heart rate (HR), systolic blood pressure (SBP), diastolic blood pressure (DBP) or mean arterial pressure (MAP) in children receiving dental care under general anesthesia (GA). Thirteen patients requiring prefabricated zirconia crowns on both primary maxillary first molars were recruited into a split-mouth randomized controlled pilot study. Patients received a continuous infusion of propofol and remifentanil with inhaled nitrous oxide/oxygen. After patient randomization and tooth preparation, either saline pellets (control) or racemic epinephrine pellets (treatment) were applied directly to gingival tissue. Vital sign measurements were recorded for 5 minutes. The procedure was repeated with either control or treatment on the contralateral side.

Synovial Fluid Sleep Study

This is an observational study of the relationship between perioperative sleep time/quality, synovial fluid cytokine profiles, and clinical outcomes of primary ACL reconstruction with BPTB autograft in 50 subjects. Sleep during the week before and month after surgery will be assessed using Fitbit smartwatch and sleep diary. Synovial fluid sampled preoperatively, intraoperatively, and postoperatively will be analyzed for levels of pro- and anti-inflammatory cytokines. Postoperative knee pain and function will be assessed until 2 years post-op using validated questionnaires.

Reliability of Sacral Slope, Pelvic Femoral Motion and Cup Ante-inclination on AP Pelvic Radiographs in Healthy Pts

Currently, there are no validated anatomical landmarks that can be used to predict risk of and diagnose abnormal patterns of pelvic motion.This proposed study will measure sacral slope, pelvic femoral angle and cup ante-inclination in both sitting and standing positions, using healthy individuals without a history of spinal and/or lower extremity pathology. All radiographs will be evaluated for the three measurements by four individuals with the intent of evaluating inter-observer reliability. Determining the reproducibility of these angles between observers will give insight into the potential clinical utility of these measurements in evaluating and treating patients with hip-spine syndrome.

Evaluating Body Acceptance Programs for Young Men

While eating disorders in males are often overlooked, up to 7 million men in the United States will experience an Eating Disorder in their lifetime. Critically, men are less likely to seek treatment for an Eating Disorder compared to females. Therefore, prevention programs that target male-specific Eating Disorder risk factors prior to the development of an eating or appearance-related disorder are crucial in reducing eating disorders in this population. Preliminary work by our group established the initial efficacy of a novel program, the Body Project: More than Muscles (MTM) compared to assessment-only control. This study will replicate and extend this research by comparing MTM to a time and attention-matched control used in previous eating disorder prevention work, media advocacy (MA).

To demonstrate that clear, interpretable quality images of the ovaries and uterus can be generated using a portable transvaginal ultrasound scanner in the home environment, and that those images are interpretable by physicians with sufficient clarity to estimate approximate antral follicle count (i.e., appropriate for age) and to observe submucosal fibroids. Study aims to prove that images taken when ultrasound is performed by a woman herself (with HCP supervision via telemedicine) and images taken when ultrasound is administered by an HCP are of comparable quality. Study population reflects real-world patient characteristics and includes both general-population and submucosal fibroid positive controls.

Given the high prevalence of neuraxial analgesia use during labor and the anxiety associated with these procedures, a method to decrease this anxiety could benefit millions of laboring women each year. Mindfulness practice has been used by many groups to decrease anxiety during pregnancy with optimistic results. However, there has been no major study evaluating the role of mindfulness interventions on anxiety associated with neuraxial placement. The purpose of our study is to address this gap in knowledge.
