Cryocompression Therapy for Peripheral Neuropathy in Patients With Multiple Myeloma

This trial studies how well cryocompression therapy works in reducing bortezomib-induced peripheral neuropathy in patients with multiple myeloma. Peripheral neuropathy (nerve pain or tingling in hands or feet) is a common side effect of chemotherapy such as bortezomib that affects the quality of life and amount of chemotherapy that can be given to many cancer patients. Cryocompression is a treatment where a glove and a boot are worn to cool down the skin. This cooling treatment is safe and does not interfere with chemotherapy treatment. Daily cryocompression therapy may reduce neuropathy caused by bortezomib chemotherapy.

Several studies in the past have tried to deactivate electrodes that are less optimal to improve speech recognition outcomes. The study aims to compare the measures based on which the deactivation was performed. The investigators aim to first examine if the measures are strongly correlated each other, and then compare the deactivation effects across measures. These measures are mainly behavioral including electrode discrimination, amplitude modulation detection thresholds, low-rate and focused detection thresholds and electrode-modiolus distance. The endpoint of the study is speech recognition performance post deactivation.

MT-0814 is being developed for the treatment of patients with exudative AMD, and could offer an alternative, safer and less burdensome therapy.

Raynaud's phenomenon (RP) is a common vascular disorder that affects approximately 10% of the general population. RP is associated with significant morbidity that may include loss of the digits due to repeated episodes of vasospasm of the digital arteries in addition to significant impairment of quality of life. It is well known that cold exposure precipitates episodes of RP, but the mechanism for cold sensitivity is not known, and treatment of RP is not satisfactory to the patients and their physicians. The goal in this study is to test the possibility that non invasive vagus nerve stimulation (nVNS) with gammaCore which is already approved by the FDA for headaches and migraines may be an effective and well tolerated therapy for Raynaud's Phenomenon.

Exercises for Improving Soft Palate and Eustachian Tube Function in Children With Ear Tubes With or Without Cleft Palate

Elevation of the soft palate (the soft part of the roof of the mouth) during swallowing helps the Eustachian tube to open and keep the ear healthy. (The Eustachian tube is the normal tube running from the middle ear to the back of the nose and throat). When the soft palate does not move enough (due to a history of cleft palate or for unknown reasons), this can lead to speech problems. Also, because the Eustachian tube is not opening enough, fluid can accumulate in the middle ear, which requires treatment with ear tubes. The goal of this research study is to determine if soft palate exercises will help improve the ability of the soft palate to close the area between the throat and nose, like it is supposed to during speech and swallowing, and if this improves Eustachian tube opening.
