There are about 3194 clinical studies being (or have been) conducted in Portugal. The country of the clinical trial is determined by the location of where the clinical research is being studied. Most studies are often held in multiple locations & countries.
The aim of PICO study is to design an aquatic exercise program specific for obese individuals with knee osteoarthritis which the main goals are OA symptoms management and the improvement of physical fitness. The author's opinion is that the musculoskeletal pain is the main constraint for any kind of mobility and its control should be considered as an important goal in the weight management's programs. Therefore the PICO project proposes an aquatic exercise program to controlling pain and other symptoms management, showing that it is possible to live with the disease, and motivating the change in lifestyle, thus preventing the installation or worsening of KOA. In this way, five hypotheses were formulated: H1. 3 months of aquatic exercise is enough to improve KOA symptoms and functionality in obese individuals; H2. The gait parameters of obese individuals with KOA can be improved by aquatic exercise; H3. Beyond the exercises skills, aquatic exercise group classes can work with an educational component, promoting lifestyles changes. H4: Pain reduction and a better psychological status can lead an increase of functionally, increasing amount of physical activity. H5: Even if the main goal is not weight management, the aquatic exercise program can lead a weight reduction or body composition change.
The primary purpose of the study was to compare the antitumor activity of LDK378 vs. chemotherapy in patients previously treated with chemotherapy (platinum doublet) and crizotinib. Patients in the chemotherapy arm were given the option to switch to LDK378 after confirmed progressive disease (PD), while also had the choice to continue with pemetrexed treatment.
The primary objective of this study is to evaluate the non-inferiority of switching to a tenofovir alafenamide (TAF)-containing fixed dose combination (FDC) relative to maintaining tenofovir disoproxil fumarate (TDF)-containing combination regimens in virologically suppressed HIV-infected participants as determined by having HIV-1 RNA < 50 copies/mL at Week 48.
After a stent procedure, it is common practice to prescribe anti-platelet medication to prevent the blood from clotting. The main objective of this study is to determine if there is a better medication strategy to prevent blood from clotting and at the same time minimising the number of complications. There are two medication strategies: - Study group: Dual anti-platelet therapy (ticagrelor combined with aspirin) for 1 month, and then ticagrelor alone for another 23 months OR - Control group: Standard treatment, being dual anti-platelet therapy (ticagrelor or clopidogrel combined with aspirin) for 12 months, and then aspirin alone indefinitely
This is a randomized, multi-center, multinational, open-label, active-controlled, parallel design study of the combination of neratinib plus capecitabine versus the combination of lapatinib plus capecitabine in HER2+ MBC patients who have received two or more prior HER2 directed regimens in the metastatic setting.
To assess a new drug, BAY94-8862, given orally at different doses, to evaluate whether it was safe and can help the well-being of patients with worsening chronic heart failure and either type II diabetes with or without chronic kidney disease or kidney disease alone. These treatment doses were compared to eplerenone, another marketed drug approved to treat heart failure.
Purpose of the study was to demonstrate the efficacy of secukinumab versus placebo on palmoplantar psoriasis and to assess the long term efficacy, safety and tolerability of secukinumab.
The purpose of this study is to collect long-term safety and efficacy data for participants treated with ibrutinib and to provide ongoing access to ibrutinib for participants who are currently enrolled in ibrutinib studies that have been completed according to the parent protocol, are actively receiving treatment with ibrutinib, and who continue to benefit from ibrutinib treatment.
The purpose of this trial is to make a comparison between the use of antiseptic silver alloy-coated silicone urinary catheters and the use of conventional silicone urinary catheters in spinal cord injured patients to prevent urinary infections.
This prospective cohort study aimed to assess the phenotypic characteristics of OSA patients and their pattern of antihypertensive drugs consumption. The investigators also aimed to investigate a hypothetical association between ongoing anti-hypertensive regimen and Blood pressure control rates in these patients. Additionally, the investigators were also interested in trying to understand if the control of OSA may be influenced by the use of different classes of anti-hypertensive drugs.
