NCT ID: NCT00426426 Completed - Clinical trials for Generalized Anxiety Disorder

Comparing Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) With Metacognitive Therapy (MCT) in the Treatment of GAD

Start date: January 2007
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

Meta Cognitive Therapy (MCT) has been introduced as a new specific treatment for generalised anxiety disorder. So far, no studies have examined CBT and MCT in comparison with each other in a randomised controlled trial. Sixty patients with a diagnosis of generalised anxiety disorder will be selected and randomised into three treatment conditions. The first group (N=20) will be treated with CBT, the second group (N=20) with MCT, and the third condition is a waiting list control (N=20). The patients in both groups will have full treatment, in accordance to treatment manuals developed by the originators. Patients in the waiting list control will be randomly allocated to either CBT or MCT after 12 weeks of waiting period. The patients will be assessed with the primary measures at pre-treatment, at the end of treatment, and at follow-up after one and two years. In addition they will be assessed weekly on symptom measures and worry outcome diary. The therapist will be treating equally amount of patients in both conditions to control for any biased distribution connected to the therapist's characteristics. Measures will be used on at least three main sources; self-report inventories (including symptom diaries), clinical assessments by independent raters and psycho-physiological assessments. We aim to (1) evaluate and compare the effectiveness of CBT and MCT, (2) investigate the patterns of change and the mechanisms of action involved during treatment in each of the conditions and, (3) evaluate pre and post-treatment somatic change by psycho-physiological assessments as a response to CBT and MCT.

NCT ID: NCT00425269 Completed - Type 2 Diabetes Clinical Trials

Lifestyle Intervention for Pakistani Women in Oslo

InnvaDiab
Start date: April 2006
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

Immigrants from South Asia in Norway have a high prevalence of type 2 diabetes and conditions related to the metabolic syndrome. It has been documented that these conditions may be prevented by changes in lifestyle. No previous intervention studies on immigrants with focus on diet and physical activity have been carried out in Norway. This project concerns a randomized controlled trial with intervention to change diet and physical activity in 200 high risk female Pakistani immigrants living in Oslo. The intervention will be evaluated both in terms of outcome and process.

NCT ID: NCT00423982 Active, not recruiting - Clinical trials for Staphylococcal Infections

Rifampin Combination Therapy Versus Monotherapy in Early Staphylococcal Infections After Total Hip and Knee Arthroplasty

Start date: April 2006
Phase: Phase 4
Study type: Interventional

The number of patients requiring joint replacement is increasing due to its success in restoring function and pain relief, and the growing population of the elderly. One of the most serious complications of arthroplasty is joint prosthesis infection. Due to the absence of prospective, randomized, controlled studies, there is no consensus concerning diagnosis and treatment of prosthetic joint infections. The main objective of this trial is to evaluate the clinical efficacy of rifampin combination therapy versus monotherapy using cloxacillin or vancomycin in early staphylococcal infections after total hip and knee arthroplasty.

NCT ID: NCT00423462 Completed - Anxiety Disorders Clinical Trials

First Experimental Study of Transference-Interpretations (FEST)

Start date: January 1993
Phase: Phase 2/Phase 3
Study type: Interventional

Analysis of the ongoing patient-therapist interaction, the transference, is considered a key active ingredient in psychoanalytically oriented psychotherapy and psychoanalysis. However, one century after Sigmund Freuds's famous "Dora" case, the first clinical description of transference, no study of transference interpretations have been published. In the present study 100 out-patients were randomized to receive one year weekly dynamic psychotherapy, with and without transference interpretations. That is, one treatment component, transference interpretations, were added to a comparison condition, therapy of the same format, by the same therapists, but without use of transference interpretation. All treatment session were audiotaped, and treatment integrity have been carefully checked. Patients were evaluated at treatment termination, one year after treatment termination and three years after treatment termination. Enrollment of patients started january 1993, and all follow-up evaluations completed by December 2005.

NCT ID: NCT00423384 Active, not recruiting - Renal Transplant Clinical Trials

Ibandronate Versus Placebo in the Prevention of Bone Loss After Renal Transplantation.

Start date: January 2007
Phase: Phase 2/Phase 3
Study type: Interventional

Loss of bone mass is a common complication in patients with end-stage-renal failure, both before and particularly after transplantation. In addition to standard underlying therapy with calcium and active vitamin D, we will study the effect of ibandronate (a bisphosphonate) versus placebo on bone mineral density as well as incidence of fracture rates after kidney transplantation. We also wish to study whether any prevented bone loss will also lead to reduced cardiovascular disease. Patients will be followed for 12 months after transplantation, and the ibandronate treatment is one injection every 3 months.

NCT ID: NCT00423345 Terminated - Colorectal Cancer Clinical Trials

Colon Investigation - Factors Determining Choice of Procedure

Start date: October 2006
Phase:
Study type: Observational

Registration of patients referred for colon investigation by barium enema, CT colonography and colonoscopy in two hospitals and one radiology centre in Telemark, Norway, for a period of minimum six months. Indications, delay and results of procedure will be recorded.Hypothesis: Choice of procedure for colon investigation is not based solely on clinical indication, but factors like delay, patient preference, lack of knowledge about the the procedures by the referring physician may have a decisive influence. The study will also analyse the correlation between patients symptoms, clinical findings and laboratory results and major pathology findings by colon investigation. Further, delay from patient´s first symptoms to finally diagnosis by colon investigation will also be registered and analysed.

NCT ID: NCT00423319 Completed - Pulmonary Embolism Clinical Trials

Study of an Investigational Drug for the Prevention of Thrombosis-related Events Following Hip Replacement Surgery (ADVANCE-3)

Start date: March 2007
Phase: Phase 3
Study type: Interventional

The purpose of this study is to learn whether apixaban can prevent the blood clots in the leg (deep vein thrombosis) and lung (pulmonary embolism) that sometimes occur after hip replacement surgery and to learn how apixaban compares with enoxaparin in preventing these clots. The safety of apixaban will also be studied

NCT ID: NCT00422409 Completed - Clinical trials for Gastrointestinal Neoplasms

Endoscopic Stenting of Gastrointestinal Cancer

Start date: October 2006
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

Obstruction of the digestive tract is a frequent cause of morbidity in patients with gastrointestinal cancer.Palliative endoscopic treatment with self- expanding metal stents(SEMS)is an alternative to palliative surgery and other palliative treatment options. The method has expanded to include patients with malignancies in the esophagus, gastroduodenal region, biliary tractus and colon. Numerous retrospective studies have reported treatment with SEMS to be safe and effective. Prospective studies, and especially studies regarding Quality of Life improvement are needed. PURPOSE: The purpose of this trial is to prospectively study the use and effect of selfexpanding metal stents(SEMS)in a defined population i Norway, especially Quality of Life changes.

Start date: January 2006
Phase: Phase 2
Study type: Interventional

The purpose of this study is to determine whether piboserod, a serotonin-4 receptor antagonist, is effective for the treatment of patients with congestive heart failure.
