The purpose of this study is to assess bioequivalence for dexamethasone administered orally versus intravenously in patients admitted to hospital for pneumonia.
HIV infected patients treated with abacavir might have a higher risk for the occurrence of cardiovascular events. At time of writing of this protocol the underlying mechanism is not yet elucidated, however some studies find impaired endothelial function and elevated markers of chronic inflammation in these patients,suggesting a higher lever of chronic inflammation. Recently maraviroc (Celsentri®), a CCR5-receptor antagonist, became available for treatment of patients infected with HIV-1. Improvement of endothelial function may be a potential beneficial side effect of treatment with maraviroc, due to the potential reduction of immune activation and chronic inflammation as a result of blocking the CCR5-coreceptor. Moreover, treatment intensification of HAART with maraviroc in patients with suppressed plasma HIV_RNA may decrease plasma HIVRNA below the cut-off of 50 copies/ml as well. The investigators hypothesize that maraviroc intensification therapy in patients on an abacavir-containing regimen will improve endothelial function. The objectives of this study are: First, to assess the effect of addition of maraviroc to an abacavir-containing regimen on endothelial function; second, to assess the effect of this intervention on markers of immune activation and chronic inflammation, and on plasma HIV-RNA below 50 copies/ml.
The aim of this study is to explore whether the implementation of Nurse Practitioners can lead to a more accessible and efficient patient care at the primary out of hours service. The primary objectives of the proposed study are: 1. What are the effects of the implementation of NPs on the primary out of hours service in comparison with the current out of hours service? Effects in terms of accessibility, objective and subjective workload of general practitioners, quality of care and patient satisfaction. 2. How efficient is the implementation of NPs in the primary out of hours services? 3. What is the feasibility of the implementation of NPs in the out of hours services? And under which conditions? 4. What are the barriers and facilitating factors considering the implementation of NPs?
The purpose of the protocol is to develop final draft PRO instruments of physical activity in daily life to be used and evaluated in the further validation studies measuring physical activity in chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) patients.
Several studies have begun to determine the time course of events sensing energy availability in rodents. In contrast, there is not a single study that has examined this in humans to date. A better understanding of this energy sensing machinery in humans is of utmost importance to give us new insights into developing new therapies for common diseases such as obesity, diabetes mellitus, cardiovascular diseases and cancer. In these diseases, disturbances in the energy-sensing machinery possibly play a role. To determine the time course of energy sensing events in humans, the investigators will measure the concentration of various hormones in plasma, and biochemical changes in skeletal muscle at sequential time points during starvation in humans. The investigators choose to study the molecular machinery in muscle, since muscle is very sensitive to fuel deprivation.

The purpose of this study is to determine the safety, tolerability, and pharmacokinetics (PK) of 2B3-101 both as single agent and in combination with trastuzumab. Furthermore, the study will explore the preliminary antitumor activity of 2B3-101 as single agent in patients with with solid tumors and brain metastases or recurrent malignant glioma as well as in patients with various forms of breast cancer with and in combination with trastuzumab in HER2+ breast cancer patients with brain metastases.

The purpose of our study is to compare the clinical effectiveness and cost-effectiveness of two treatment strategies of Intermittent Claudication (IC) due to an iliac artery obstruction: to start with SUPERvised Exercise Therapy (SET) and deferred Percutaneous Transluminal Angioplasty (PTA) in case of SET failure, or immediate PTA. It is our hypothesis that PTA as first line treatment is more effective than SET as first line treatment with regard to maximum walking distance, quality of life and costs after one year.
