NCT ID: NCT01441791 Completed - Clinical trials for Postoperative Respiratory Complications

PROVHILO:Protective Ventilation During General Anesthesia for Open Abdominal Surgery

PROVHILO
Start date: February 2011
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

The purpose of this international, multicentre, double-blinded randomized controlled trial is to determine if the "open lung approach" providing recruitment maneuvers and PEEP(Positive End Expiratory Pressure) during general anesthesia reduces atelectasis formation and improves respiratory function in the immediate post-operative period after major abdominal surgery. Participating centres throughout the world will include a total of 900 adult patients undergoing general anesthesia for open abdominal surgery with high or intermediate risk for post-operative pulmonary complications. Patients are randomized and intra-operatively ventilated with either a lung protective strategy (PEEP at 12 cmH2O with recruitment maneuvers) or a conventional strategy (PEEP at maximum 2 cmH2O without recruitment maneuvers). Patients will be assessed on the first 5 post-operative days, on day of discharge and on day 90 post-operative. Primary endpoint is any post-operative pulmonary complication (see below). Secondary endpoints are post-operative extra-pulmonary complications, intra-operative mechanical ventilation related complications, unscheduled ICU (Intensive Care Unit) (re-) admission, and length of hospital stay.

NCT ID: NCT01441596 Completed - Breast Neoplasms Clinical Trials

Lux-Breast 3; Afatinib Alone or in Combination With Vinorelbine in Patients With Human Epidermal Growth Factor Receptor 2 (HER2) Positive Breast Cancer Suffering From Brain Metastases

Start date: October 2011
Phase: Phase 2
Study type: Interventional

The aim of this study is to investigate the efficacy and safety of afatinib alone or in combination with vinorelbine, as treatment in patients with HER2-overexpressing metastatic breast cancer, who have progressive brain lesions after trastuzumab and/or lapatinib based therapy

NCT ID: NCT01441583 Completed - Heart Failure Clinical Trials

Ingenio Device Algorithm Study

IVORY
Start date: October 2011
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

The purpose of the IVORY Study is to gather data to support global submissions/approvals for some models of the Ingenio device family.

NCT ID: NCT01441245 Completed - Acute Heart Failure Clinical Trials

Loop Diuretics Administration and Acute Heart Failure

diurHF
Start date: April 2010
Phase: Phase 4
Study type: Interventional

Intravenous loop diuretics is the therapy most commonly used to treat pulmonary congestion and systemic fluid overload. In theory, continuous infusion should allow for a more consistent diuresis, avoiding the sodium reabsorption in the distal tubule as well as the neurohormonal activation. This should lead to renal function improvement and BNP decrease.

NCT ID: NCT01440556 Completed - Multiple Myeloma Clinical Trials

Allogeneic Bone Marrow Transplantation From Unrelated Donors in Multiple Myeloma

MM2011
Start date: October 2011
Phase: N/A
Study type: Observational

Autologous hematopoietic cell transplantation is currently considered the standard therapy of multiple myeloma (MM) for elegible patients. On the contrary, despite new developments in transplant procedures and supportive care, allogeneic bone marrow transplantation is less commonly used due to high transplant related mortality (TRM). No consensus statement about allografting in MM has so far been reached and only a minority of patients undergoing allografting are enrolled in prospective clinical trials. Moreover, use of unrelated donors is considerably increased over the time and the recent activity survey of European Group for Blood and Marrow Transplantation (EBMT) showed that the number of allografts from unrelated donor is higher than that one from HLA-identical siblings in Europe. In order to evaluate trends in allograft from unrelated donors in multiple myeloma patients, the investigators plan to conduct a restrospective study through the Italian Bone Marrow Transplantation Registry (IBMDR) over a period ranging since 2000 to 2009. Data will be collected from the central data management system Promise (Project Manager Internet Server) used by EBMT and from IBMDR. The aim of the study is to evaluate the role of unrelated donor allograft in multiple myeloma over the last decade and hopefully offer recommendations on patient selection. Primary endpoints of the study are: a) Overall Survival (OS) from diagnosis and from the allograft b) Event-Free-Survival (EFS) from the allograft. Disease response criteria will be defined according to the International Uniform Response Criteria for multiple myeloma. Transplant related mortality, Graft-Versus-Host-Disease (GVHD), either acute or chronic (limited/extensive) will be evaluated as cumulative incidences. Univariate and multivariate analysis will be calculated for the transplant-related and patient-related characteristics.

NCT ID: NCT01440426 Completed - Gingival Recession Clinical Trials

Connective Tissue Graft Versus Mucograft Collagen Matrix for Coverage of Multiple Gingival Recession Defects

Start date: September 2011
Phase: Phase 4
Study type: Interventional

This study deals with coverage of multiple denuded roots. The current standard treatment requires surgical correction and uses soft tissue taken from the roof of the mouth to enhance results. The hypothesis of this trial is that a synthetic collagen matrix (called Mucograft) can be used to replace soft tissue taken from the subject. If the collagen matrix will prove to be equally as effective as the patient own tissue, it will be possible to avoid a more extensive surgery and decrease pain and discomfort.

NCT ID: NCT01440088 Completed - Soft Tissue Sarcoma Clinical Trials

A Trial of TH-302 in Combination With Doxorubicin Versus Doxorubicin Alone to Treat Patients With Locally Advanced Unresectable or Metastatic Soft Tissue Sarcoma

Start date: September 2011
Phase: Phase 3
Study type: Interventional

The purpose of this study is to determine whether TH-302 in combination with Doxorubicin is safe and effective in the treatment of Locally Advanced Unresectable or Metastatic Soft Tissue Sarcoma.

NCT ID: NCT01439971 Completed - Hemophilia A Clinical Trials

Phase 1 Safety, Pharmacokinetics And Pharmacodynamics Study Of Recombinant Factor VIIa Variant (813d) In Adult Subjects With Hemophilia

Start date: December 2011
Phase: Phase 1
Study type: Interventional

This study hypothesizes that the study drug, PF-05280602 (at the selected doses) will be safe to administer to subjects with severe Hemophilia A or B with or without inhibitors and will demonstrate evidence of hemostatic activity. This is supported by the preclinical findings in hemophilic animal models.

NCT ID: NCT01439906 Completed - Scoliosis Clinical Trials

Surgical Treatment for Degenerative Scoliosis

Start date: January 2010
Phase: N/A
Study type: Observational

The study aims to analyze the surgical treatment of low back pain due to degenerative kyphoscoliosis, already routinely performed on patients treated in Istituto Ortopedico Rizzoli, in terms of reduction of the pain and functional improvement. The comparison of back pain and functional ability before and after the surgical treatment will be performed by administering to the patients specific questionnaires (Visual Analog Score VAS, Oswestry Disability Index ODI, Quality of Life EuroQoL 5D). Questionnaires administration will be matched to a purely objective and radiological assessment according to international guidelines. A psychological analysis will be also performed in order to evaluate co-morbidity from this field, considering that the concept of "shared decision-making" for the therapeutic approach to low back pain requires the evaluation of all these parameters.
