There are about 2333 clinical studies being (or have been) conducted in Ireland. The country of the clinical trial is determined by the location of where the clinical research is being studied. Most studies are often held in multiple locations & countries.
The primary objective of this trial is to demonstrate that a fixed dose combination of telmisartan 80 mg plus hydrochlorothiazide 25 mg (T80/H25) is superior in reducing blood pressure after eight weeks compared with a fixed dose combination of telmisartan 80 mg plus hydrochlorothiazide 12.5 mg (T80/H12.5) in patients who fail to respond to six weeks treatment with T80/H12.5.
In an earlier study, eplerenone was shown to improve survival in patients who had heart failure immediately following a heart attack. However, it is not known how patients with established mild-to-moderate heart failure (NYHA Class II), who have the additional risk of sudden death, will respond if treated with eplerenone. In this trial, eplerenone plus standard heart failure medicines is being compared to placebo plus standard heart failure medicines in terms of an additional ability to prolong life and prevent re-hospitalizations for worsening heart failure in these patients. The Data Safety Monitoring Committee (DSMC) observed during its conduct of the protocol-specified second interim analysis on the 6th of May, 2010 that the efficacy of eplerenone had met the pre-specified stopping rules in the protocol. As a result of the discussion between the DSMC and the Executive Steering Committee (ESC), the ESC recommended that EMPHASIS-HF should be terminated, Based on the convincing efficacy and the consideration that it would be unethical not to offer this treatment to patients, the ESC recommended that all the patients in the trial should be transferred to open-label eplerenone. The Open Label Extension eplerenone arm will last for 12 months. Eplerenone is not currently approved for the indication studied in this patient population. On May 26, 2010, further enrollment into EMPHASIS-HF was stopped. The amendment is considered to be the most appropriate way to ensure that all the subjects who participated in the double-blind phase of the EMPHASIS-HF trial can be offered treatment with eplerenone
The purpose of this study is to evaluate the safety and effectiveness (beyond 6 months) of individualized doses (100 to 200 milligrams) of topiramate for the prevention of migraine headaches over a period of 26 weeks.
The purpose of this study is to investigate whether a long-acting injectable formulation of risperidone provides better effectiveness over 2 years, as measured by the time to relapse, compared with quetiapine tablets in a routine psychiatric care setting. Aripiprazole will be investigated in a descriptive manner.
The objectives of this program are: to further characterize the natural progression of MPS VI disease; to generate and disseminate information on the care and management of MPS VI patients to clinical and medical professionals; to provide a resource to physicians and patients by providing information for optimizing patient care based on aggregate data; to characterize the clinical response to long-term Naglazyme® (galsulfase) treatment; to further characterize the long-term safety of Naglazyme® treatment.
The purpose of this study is to compare the proportion of subjects with HIV-1 RNA viral load < 50 c/mL through Week 48 of the Maintenance Phase among HIV-infected subjects with an initial undetectable viral load following an Induction Phase with an ATV/RTV containing HAART regimen, when switched to ATV versus remaining on ATV/RTV, whilst continuing their previous NRTI backbone.
The purpose of the study is to investigate if rosuvastatin, added on top of all other medicines prescribed to subjects with symptomatic systolic heart failure, reduces the combined endpoint of cardiovascular death or non-fatal myocardial infarction or non-fatal stroke (time to first event)
The purpose of this study is to evaluate the safety of the TAC-bevacizumab combination and investigate whether changes in gene expression, or the expression of specific biomarkers, are either predictive of response to bevacizumab or indicative of response.
Approximately 520 patients will be entered into this study taking place throughout Australia and Europe. This study aims to determine if an investigational drug is safe and effective for treating symptoms of C. difficile-associated diarrhea (CDAD) and lowering the risk of repeat episodes of CDAD. The investigational drug will be evaluated in comparison to current standard antibiotic treatment, so all patients will receive active medication. All study related care is provided including doctor visits, physical exams, laboratory tests, and study medication. The total length of participation is approximately 6 weeks.
The purpose of the study is to assess the safety and efficacy of adalimumab in combination with methotrexate in patients with recent onset rheumatoid arthritis (RA), and to assess the long-term safety and maintenance of efficacy after treatment with adalimumab for up to 10 years.
