This Phase 2 study has been designed to investigate the clinical safety and efficacy of EDP1815 and to identify an optimal dose in subjects with mild to moderate psoriasis.
One of the most common presentations to ED is chest pain, with the rapid rule out of heart attacks in the emergency department being common place. This moves a new onus of responsibility to the EDÍž the care of long term heart disease. A study conducted locally demonstrated that patient's with a heart attack ruled out felt the 'what next' question is not answered sufficiently at present. The strength of this opportunity is re-enforced by studies suggesting that chest pain presents a teachable moment where patients are more accepting of advice. The study's overarching goal is to improve heart disease care (cardiovascular disease).The early warning signs for heart disease can be detected and treated enabling patients to live longer and healthier lives. This is where it is believed that the Emergency Department (ED) can improve, EDs already collect the vast majority of data required to detect these early warning signs. In the United Kingdom more than 23.8 million attendances were registered last year, and ED is currently underusing a large amount of patient data of potentially great value to the population. The study aims to explore the best way to use this long term heart disease predictionÍž how to communicate it to patients, who prescribes the necessary medication, who issues lifestyle advice, and who follows it up. The investigators intend to answer these questions with a series of semi-structured interviews. The study will comprise of initial semistructured interviews made up of emergency medicine consultants, general practitioners, nurses, and patients. Then building on the knowledge gained from the initial interviews it is planned to build a prototype care pathway that will be explored in the second set of interviews. Rectal cancer is a common pathology which is treated by a multimodal approach. Those tumours in the rectum that are locally advanced are treated with neoadjuvant chemoradiotherapy before an operation. This aims to reduce the size of the tumour and increase the change of a complete resection. The degree of shrinkage of a rectal cancer to pre-operative treatment is influenced by the immune system. In some other cancers there is evidence that the bacteria living in our mouth & in the large bowel influence the way the body responds a cancer. In this study patients with rectal cancer requiring radiotherapy before surgery will be asked to give samples of saliva & bowel motions before chemoradiotherapy & again before surgery. These samples will have the type and number of bacteria analysed, as well as levels of key metabolic products of these bacteria. The results will be compared with the response, as assessed by the pathologist using standard criteria, of the rectal to the radiotherapy.

Self-harm is when somebody hurts their body as a way of coping with difficult feelings. Self-harm is becoming increasingly common in young people, particularly in adolescent females. The rise in self-harm has been linked to increasing use of social media and internet technology among young people. However, the evidence is limited to associations with poorer mental health outcomes rather than identifying particular aspects of using these technologies that can negatively impact on mental health. This study aims to investigate how the use of social media and a smartphone may increase the risk of self-harm in young people by exploring changes in usage in the period leading up to an episode of self-harm. The information from this study will allow us to understand whether there are certain behaviours that are more likely to occur before an episode of self-harm. This will inform new strategies to identify and provide support to vulnerable young people. For example, linking young people with crisis support or empowering young people to make changes, manage their own risks and build resilience. This study will recruit young people aged 13-25 years old who have accessed mental health services provided by an NHS Trust in South-East London. Young people will be invited to provide information on their mental health and social media and smartphone use over a period of six months.
Millet is a functional grain that has attracted the attention of scientists for many years due to its significant benefits to human health. Research has shown that millets have a high antioxidant capacity and polyphenol content which can contribute to a reduced risk of some chronic diseases such as type 2 diabetes and its complications. This study aimed to assess the glycaemic response (GR), insulinaemic response (IR) and gastric emptying (GE) after the consumption of millet-based muffins in pre-diabetic and healthy participants. This was a single-blind, randomized controlled crossover study in which participants consumed one control muffin (wheat) and one test muffin (millet). During each session, participants were required to consume either the test or the control muffin, consuming the alternative on the next visit. Then, 10 finger-prick blood samples were taken for the determination of glucose and insulin over 4 hours. 13Carbon (13C) sodium acetate was added to the muffins (control and test) in order to measure gastric emptying from the breath samples collected.
This feasibility study is being conducted to investigate the practicalities and potential benefits of equipping patients with wearable monitoring devices.
This is a prospective, multicenter, randomized, double-blinded, placebo-controlled trial to investigate the efficacy, safety, patient outcome measures, tolerability, immunogenicity, PK, and PD of efgartigimod PH20 SC in adult participants aged from 18 years with PV or PF. The trial comprises a screening period of up to 3 weeks, a treatment period of up to 30 weeks, and an 8-week follow-up period for participants who do not enroll into the open-label extension (OLE) trial ARGX-113-1905. The primary objective of the ARGX-113-1904 trial is to demonstrate the efficacy of subcutaneous administration of efgartigimod co-formulated with recombinant human hyaluronidase PH20 (Efgartigimod PH20 SC) compared to placebo in the treatment of participants with Pemphigus Vulgaris (PV). Secondary objectives are to also demonstrate the efficacy of efgartigimod PH20 SC in the treatment of participants with Pemphigus Foliaceus (PF), and to demonstrate early onset of action and a prednisone-sparing effect. After confirmation of eligibility, participants will be randomized in a 2: 1 ratio to receive efgartigimod PH20 SC or placebo
This is an exploratory, prospective, multicenter, open-label, single-arm, interventional, Phase IIb study designed to explore the associations over time between clinical assessments, multimodal imaging assessments, aqueous humor (AH) biomarker patterns, and genetic polymorphisms in participants with diabetic macular edema (DME) who are treated with faricimab.
Pancreatic head malignancies are aggressive cancers that are often inoperable when they are diagnosed. In the ~20% of patients who are diagnosed when the disease is still operable, surgery is the only treatment that can provide a chance of cure. Unfortunately, up to 75% of patients undergoing surgery will have the cancer come back (recur). One of the reasons for this is the challenge of removing the whole tumour with some surrounding non-cancerous tissue to ensure that every tumour cell has been removed. This is difficult because there are many structures very close to the pancreas (such as the blood vessels that supply the intestines) that cannot be removed. A recent review study of >1700 patients who had a Whipple's operation (the cancer operation that is performed to remove the head of pancreas) and found that whilst the majority of patients had cancer recurrence in distant sites (like the liver) that would not be affected by how the operation was performed, 12% of patients had the cancer recur just at the site of where the operation had been; this is known as 'local' recurrence. This suggests that a small amount of cancer was not removed at the time of surgery in these patients. Very few studies have looked at the relationship between the Computerised Tomography (CT) scan before surgery and the histology results (information about the tumour after it has been examined under the microscope) and whether this can predict exactly where the tumour recurs. If investigators can find factors that predict which patients get local only recurrence, investigators may be able to offer improved surgical techniques or other therapies during or immediately after the operation to these patients, hopefully leading to improved cure rates. This retrospective international study will look at these factors in patients who underwent a Whipple's operation for pancreatic cancer, bile duct cancer or ampullary cancer over a three year period between 2012 and 2015. Participating centres will provide data on pre-operative scans, complications around the time of surgery, any therapies (e.g. chemotherapy) that the patients had and if and where the cancer recurred. With this information, investigators hope to find ways to predict which patients will get local-only recurrence, so researchers can select them for future studies to see if additional treatments can improve the chance of cure from surgery for these patients.
