Efficacy of Two Types of Non-invasive Erector Spinae Muscle Taut Band Therapy in University Students With Low Back Pain

Non-specific low back pain can be caused by the presence of active trigger points in the muscles of the lumbopelvic region. Trigger points are defined as hypersensitive points within a taut band of a musculoskeletal system that cause pain during contraction, stretching, or stimulation of said muscle. If these points are active, they can trigger referred pain, local tenderness, and vegetative responses. There is scientific evidence of the improvement of the treatment of these points through non-invasive manual techniques. The objective of this study will be to determine the effect of Strain Counterstrain and Myofascial Induction techniques in subjects with low back pain secondary to the presence of active trigger points in the lumbopelvic region. Hyperexcitable myofascial trigger points located within a taut band of skeletal muscle or fascia cause referred pain, local tenderness, and autonomic changes. The scientific data refer to an immediate improvement in the symptoms of these active points treated with manual therapy. Based on these factors, the objective of the study is to determine the effect of the combined therapy of the Strain Counterstrain technique and Myofascial Induction in participants with the presence of an active trigger point in the erector spinae muscle.

Effects of IMT on Functional Capacity in Patients With Chronic COVID After Hospital Discharge

Exercise intolerance and fatigue are the most common symptoms in patients with chronic COVID after hospital discharge. Muscle deconditioning, dysautonomia, and exercise hyperventilation have been proposed as potential mechanisms contributing to exercise functional capacity limitation in Long-COVID. Along this line, combined exercise training or inspiratory muscle training (IMT) alone have already been demonstrated to be feasible therapeutic options for Long-COVID patients. However, we do not have evidence about the effects of a home-based IMT program for 12-week on peak oxygen consumption (peakVO2). in patients chronic COVID (>3 months) after hospital discharge. This is a prospective study, blinded for the evaluator, randomized (1:1) to receive standard management alone or combined with a program of IMT that will be carried out in a single center. After randomization, patients will be clinically evaluated. The primary endpoint (peakVO2) will be assessed by cardiopulmonary exercise testing (CPET) at 12-week. Patients with chronic COVID (>3 months) after hospital discharge will be enrolled. A sample size estimation [alfa: 0.05, power: 80%, a 15% loss rate, and at least a delta change of mean peakVO2: +3 mL/kg/min (SD±2.5)] of 26 patients (13 per arm) would be necessary to test our hypothesis.

Cellular therapy of the corneal stroma with implantation of mesenchymal stem cells derived from autologous adipose tissue with or without a carrier (scaffold) composed by decellularized human donor corneal stroma is used in patients with corneal diseases such as corneal dystrophies, and keratoconus. For this purpose, the study planned to assess the enhancement of visual acuity, pachymetric, and aberrometric parameters with implantation of autologous mesenchymal adipose tissue-derived adult stem cells (ADASCs) alone, 120 µm thickness of decellularized or recellularized laminas with ADASCs. Three groups will be included in the study: (1) Implantation of a single dose of ADASCs alone without scaffold. (2) Implantation of decellularized human corneal lamina without ADASCs. (3) Implantation of the recellularized human corneal lamina with ADASCs.

Evaluate Clinical Benefit of Local Treatment With KD Intra-Articular® Gel in Patients With Osteoarthritis (NO-DOLOR2)

Prospective observational, national, multicentre, open study with a class III medical device with EC marking. Study to evaluate the clinical benefit of local treatment with KD intra-articular® gel in patients with osteoarthritis of the shoulder, hip, ankle or base of the thumb. The study will be conducted in the Rheumatology Service of Spanish Hospitals under the usual medical conditions, in accordance with routine clinical practice and following the internationally recognised precepts of good clinical practice of ICH and Declaration of Helsinki. The objective is to evaluate the evolution of pain in patients diagnosed with single or preferential symptomatic osteoarthritis of the shoulder or hip treated with KD Intra-Articular® gel 2.2% - 44 mg in 2 ml - (Pronolis® HD one 2.2%), and ankle or base of the thumb treated with KD Intra-Articular® gel 1.6% - 16 mg in 1 ml - (Pronolis® HD mini 1.6%). Eighty patients will be included among about 6 Spanish Sites. The study comprises a maximum of 6 visits per protocol. At visit 0, informed consent will be obtained, the patient will be checked for fulfil the selection criteria. A pain assessment will also be carried out using a Visual Analogue Scale (VAS) and the corresponding questionnaire will be completed depending on the affected joint. According to the usual clinical practice of the site, the study treatment will be administered. A week after the first infiltration the second visit (V1) will be applied, and the VAS will be repeated. The patient's global clinical impression of change will also be assessed, and along with the Likert scale of satisfaction will be collected. The next visit (V2) will be carried out a week after the second infiltration and the procedures will be the same as those of the previous visit (V1). At 4 (V3), 12 (V4) and 24 (V5) weeks after receiving the third infiltration (V2), follow-up visits will be carried out where the assessment procedures will be the same as in visit 0, in addition to the GCI -C, the Likert scale of satisfaction and the collection of potential AEs and changes in concomitant medication. At each visit, the patient will be given a diary, where they will collect the rescue medication they have needed since the previous visit. In the electronic case report form (eCRF), the rescue medication (analgesics and NSAIDs) that you have needed since the previous visit (V0-V2) or in the month prior to the study visit (V3-V6) will be collected.
