Objective: The objective of the study is to assess the structural and functional cardiac effects of treatment with the beta 3 AR agonist Mirabegron in patients with chronic heart failure. Design: The investigators are planning a study aiming at establishing proof of concept that treatment of patients with HF with Mirabegron has significant positive effects, as assessed by clinical and biochemistry measurements, but not by hard endpoints. The investigators are performing a combined dose-finding - chronic efficacy study. The study is a randomized, placebo-controlled, double-blinded trial. The follow-up period is 6 months. 70 patients with chronic heart failure will be included. Specific aims 1. Determine safety of administration of Mirabegron to patients with heart failure. 2. Determine if treatment with Mirabegron for 6 months induces beneficial cardiac structural remodelling in patients with heart failure. 3. Determine if Mirabegron improves symptoms and exercise capacity as indicated by questionnaires and 6 min walk test in patients with heart failure. 4. Determine effects of Mirabegron on cardiac conduction, repolarisation and rhythms and arrhythmias in patients with heart failure. 5. Determine effects of Mirabegron on circulating biomarkers in patients with heart failure.
To assess a new drug, BAY94-8862 given orally at different doses, to evaluate whether it was safe and can help the well being of patients with type 2 diabetes and diabetic nephropathy. These treatment doses were compared to placebo.
The hypothesis is that there is a profit potential by implementing a multifactorial nutritional intervention among frail elderly since this will result in an improved nutritional status, functional capacity and improved quality of life.
The aim of this study is to investigate the sun protective effect of melatonin, when used as a cream applied before sun exposure. Sun exposure induces erythema as indication of an inflammatory reaction in the skin. It is proven that the amount of free radicals in the skin are increased by UV exposure. Furthermore, it is known that melatonin is a potent antioxidant. It is hypothesized that melatonin can be protective against the UV induced release of free radicals by acting as a radical scavenger and thereby protect against UV-induced cellular damage.
PURPOSE: To investigate the natural time course of patient-reported outcomes after meniscus surgery and identify factors associated with good and bad outcome after surgery.
The purpose of the study was to evaluate the efficacy, safety and tolerability of intravenous infusion of serelaxin, when added to standard therapy, in acute heart failure (AHF) patients.
Objective To collate the bone status in type 1 and type 2 diabetics using biochemical markers and bone scans. Methods: This is a multicenter trial involving the University Hospitals of three major danish cities: Aalborg, Aarhus and Odense. The trial is of cross-sectional design and consists of examinations including: - Blood samples to analyze bone markers, glycemic state, kidney function and sex-hormones. - 24 hour urine sample to analyze bone markers and kidney function. - Bone scans including dual energy x-ray absorptiometry (DXA) and high resolution peripheral quantitative computed tomography (HRpQCT) to evaluate Bone Mineral Density, t-score and bone structure. Participants: 100 type 1 diabetics and 100 type 2 diabetics recruited from outpatient clinics at Aalborg, Aarhus and Odense, general practitioners and flyers.
Main purpose: To determine if live music moderates the level of chemotherapy related anxiety, in patients with haematological cancer The investigators hypothesize that live music: 1. Have an ameliorating effect on physical and psychological symptoms during chemotherapy treatment 2. May counteract the patients feeling of loss of identity and alienation in this particular group of cancer patients. 3. Is more effective in patients with good musical abilities. 4. Is more effective than taped music. Method: Intervention groups: 1. Listening to patient-preferred live music during chemotherapy 2. Listening to patient-preferred taped music during chemotherapy 3. Standard care Endpoints: Primary: Level of anxiety measured by STAI. Secondary: Serum catecholamines. Background: In order to establish the intervention procedures, the investigators have carried out a pilot study at the hematology department at Hospital of Southwest Denmark, including students from the Academy of Music and Dramatic Arts, Southern Denmark. The pilot results indicates that live music has an uplifting, pain relieving, and then releasing effect and that music has a positive impact on hospitalisation. According to the evaluation forms filled out by 243 cancer patients, the music experience has provided human anchorage/cohesion as a counterweight to disease fixation and alienation Chemotherapy involves major physical and psychological problems. Not much has been provided in the clinical setting which relieves the symptoms of anxiety associated with chemotherapy. A review of the literature illustrate the need for developing new potential areas of intervention that takes into account, that not only do cancer patients face challenges in everyday life ranging from physiological changes over social to psychological problems, but also during treatment procedures, which may cause a higher level of anxiety associated with these procedures, e.g., chemotherapy infusion.This project investigates to what degree live music may relieve some of these symptoms during treatment for haematological cancer. The project is created in order to both measure psychosocial effects as well as direct stress measures, i.e. serum catecholamine. These physiological changes are measured in order to shed light on the mechanism behind the potential effects of live music on discomfort in connection with chemotherapy treatment. Perspectives: The vision of the project focus on strengthening the cancer patients' ability to cope with physiological and psychological issues during chemotherapy sessions and to make the patients conscious of music as an option in these coping efforts. Hopefully, the results will provide a scientific basis for an evaluation of the perspectives and the potentials of live music treatment during chemotherapy infusion among cancer patients.
The trough concentration of metformin will be examined in monozygotic and dizygotic twins. Current twin study will determine the total weight of genetics on the trough concentration of metformin.
This phase IB trial aims to identify anticancer activity of GSK3052230 in subjects with malignancies with abnormal dependence on FGF pathway signaling. Combination doses of GSK3052230 with standard of care chemotherapy in the first and second line or greater setting of metastatic squamous non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) and first line malignant pleural mesothelioma subjects will be studied in the 3+3 dose-escalation design. This will be a multi-arm, multicenter, non-randomized, parallel-group, uncontrolled, open-label Phase IB study designed to evaluate the safety, tolerability and preliminary activity of GSK3052230 in combination with paclitaxel + carboplatin (Arm A), in combination with docetaxel (Arm B), or in combination with pemetrexed + cisplatin (Arm C). Approximately 70 subjects will be enrolled in the study (approximately up to 120 may be enrolled).
