Influence of Hormone Treatment in Radiation Therapy for Bladder Cancer

Bladder cancer is often treated with cystectomy or radiation therapy. Following radiation therapy patients will often have severe side effects from the treatment. Studies have suggested that simultanously treatment with androgen deprivation therapy during radiation therapy may be able to proctect stemcells in the bladder, thus improving tissue recovering post-radiation, which would result in improved bladder compliance following the treatment and ultimately result in fewer side effects and overall improved patient quality of life.

Previous studies have shown an increase in the prevalence of urgency and urgency incontinence in women with diabetes. Regarding the condition urinary stress incontinence, the literature is diverted. The purpose of the PhD project is investigate the prevalence of urinary incontinence and the association to diabetes and thyroid disease in a mainly rual population in Lolland and Falster. Further to investigate if there is any difference in the bladder function in incontinent women with and without diabetes. Psychometric validation of the questionnaire used to assess urinary incontinence was also performed.

Prevalence of wtATTR-CM After Carpal Tunnel Release Surgery

Patients above the age of 60 will be recruited at their carpal tunnel release surgery. Biopsies will be taken from the wrist and examined for the presence of amyloid protein. A amyloid-positive biopsy will refer the patients for cardiac examination including blod- and urine samples examined for transthyretin. If the result of the cardiac examination is suspected cardiac amyloidosis, the patient will be referred for a diagnostic TC99-DPD scintigraphy. If the scintigraphy is positive, the patient will be referred for right heart catherization (RHC) and an exercise test. Myocardial biopsies will be taken at the RHC and examined with electron microscopy and high resolution respirometry.

The purpose of this study is to investigate if high-intensive training can mobilize and activate the immune system, and thereby enhance the effect of the conventional treatment of lung cancer patients. An important aspect of this study will investigate if the presence of various proteins and cells in blood and tumor biopsies can verify or predict the effect of the high-intensive training. In this clinical trial, patients with lung cancer will combine their conventional therapy with a six-week exercise program.

Contractures are a frequent cause of reduced mobility in children with Cerebral palsy (CP) already at the age of 2-3 years. Reduced muscle use and muscle growth have been suggested as key factors in the development of contractures, suggesting that efficient early prevention will have to involve stimuli that can facilitate muscle growth already before the age of 1 year. The present study protocol was developed to assess the effectiveness of an early intervention program, CONTRACT, on muscle growth and mobility in children at very high risk of CP compared with best standard care.
