NCT ID: NCT03697447 Recruiting - Burn Scar Clinical Trials

Endermotherapy With Burn Hypertrophic Scars

Start date: February 13, 2017
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

Mechanical massage or endermotherapyTM is applied to scar tissue with the intended therapeutic value being the promotion of structural or physiological changes. These proposed changes are meant to induce more pliability, so that skin possesses the strength and elasticity required for normal mobility. The advantage of mechanical massage compared to manual massage is that it provides a standard dosage using rollers and suction valves to mobilize the tissue. However, research documenting and supporting this effect is lacking. The objective of this proposal is to document the effect of 12 weeks of endermotherapy treatment on hypertrophic scar characteristics, including erythema, pigmentation, pliability, and thickness in adult burn survivors and their subjective evaluation of itch, pain and overall scar outcome through a prospective, randomized, controlled, within-patient, single-blinded study.

NCT ID: NCT03697304 Active, not recruiting - Neoplasm Metastasis Clinical Trials

Platform Trial Evaluating Safety and Efficacy of BI 754091 Anti- PD-1 Based Combination Therapies in PD-(L)1 naïve and PD- (L)1 Pretreated Patient Populations With Advanced/Metastatic Solid Tumours

Start date: February 12, 2019
Phase: Phase 2
Study type: Interventional

This is a study in adults with various types of advanced cancer. The purpose of the study is to test a medicine called BI 754091 in combination with several other cancer medicines. BI 754091 is an immunotherapy. This means it may help the immune system fight cancer. Such therapies are also called immune checkpoint inhibitors. How long the participants are in the study depends on whether they benefit from treatment and whether they experience unacceptable side effects. The participants are put into different groups. Each group receives BI 754091 in combination with another medicine. The doctors check whether the tumors shrink or disappear. The doctors also check the general health of the participants.

NCT ID: NCT03697109 Completed - Cushing Syndrome Clinical Trials

A Study of the Efficacy and Safety of Relacorilant in Patients With Endogenous Cushing Syndrome

GRACE
Start date: November 15, 2018
Phase: Phase 3
Study type: Interventional

This is a Phase 3, double-blind, placebo-controlled, randomized-withdrawal study to assess the efficacy, safety and pharmacokinetics (PK) of relacorilant in patients with endogenous Cushing syndrome and concurrent type 2 diabetes mellitus/impaired glucose tolerance and/or uncontrolled hypertension

NCT ID: NCT03696914 Completed - Asthma Clinical Trials

Intense Airway Eosinophilia in Asthma

Start date: June 6, 2017
Phase:
Study type: Observational

In asthma, the type and importance of the inflammatory response in the airways has allows identification of different phenotypes. Of these, one of the most common is eosinophilic asthma, based on induced sputum differential cell count. Patients with severe asthma and an eosinophilic asthma phenotype have different pathophysiological characteristics than those seen in patients with with mild asthma. However, few studies have compared patients with eosinophilic phenotype according to the severity of asthma. In addition, the stability of the phenotype based on the sputum results has been criticized. This study aims to describe the characteristics of patients with eosinophilic asthma phenotype according to the severity of asthma and determine the stability of the phenotype.

NCT ID: NCT03696446 Completed - Clinical trials for Coronary Heart Disease

E-health Intervention for Cardiac Rehabilitation

VCRP-RCT
Start date: November 30, 2018
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

Cardiac rehabilitation (CR) is designed to increase healthy behaviours (e.g. physical activity, healthy eating, smoking abstinence) and reduce risk factors (e.g. high blood pressure & cholesterol) in order to improve quality of life and health among people with heart disease. Unfortunately, few patients attend CR, often reporting several barriers to access including travel distance, parking fees and lack of time. Advances in technology have the potential to improve accessibility and delivery of CR programs, and improve patient empowerment. The University of Ottawa Heart Institute has developed an e-health program called the Virtual Cardiac Rehabilitation Program (VCRP); an online cardiovascular health management system (website & Smartphone app) that provides strategies for the control and management of risk factors. The goals of VCRP are to: empower and educate patients; foster better communication between patients and their health care team; stimulate shared decision making; and, facilitate care coordination leading to better health outcomes. The VCRP provides patients with: real-time access to their health information, as well as tracking of risk behaviours and factors through integration with devices; a wellness plan; access to a personal on-line health coach; goal-setting notifications; on-line community forums; and, circle of care access to information. The aim of this project is to evaluate the effects of VCRP (with integrated fitness tracker) compared to a standard, home-based CR program. The study will look at changes in: patient empowerment; health behaviours; risk factors; quality of life; clinical outcomes; and, costs. The study will improve our understanding of: patient and provider needs; program usability; and shared decision-making. Results will inform the use of e-health programs such as VCRP into healthcare settings to improve patient empowerment, shared decision-making, and the ability to integrate wearable monitors to improve health behaviours.

NCT ID: NCT03696394 Recruiting - Clinical trials for Osteochondral Defect

A Study to Evaluate the Efficacy of BioCartilage® Micronized Cartilage Matrix in Microfracture Treatment of Osteochondral Defects

Start date: January 29, 2019
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

The study was designed by the principal investigator, Dr. Andrea Veljkovic, and the St. Paul's Hospital Foot and Ankle Research Group, who will conduct the study. The study is being funded by Arthrex, Inc., the manufacturer of the Health Canada approved BioCartilage® Micronized Cartilage Matrix. The purpose of this study is to assess whether adding BioCartilage® to microfracture treatment of osteochondral defects of the talus improves osteochondral healing as well as improving pain and function. Efficacy will be assessed primarily by outcomes scores as measure by the Ankle Osteoarthritis Scale (AOS) at the baseline and at multiple post-op followup visits. Additional outcomes scores will also be administered to compare general health and foot function between the two groups at baseline and at multiple post-op followup visits. X-rays and MRI will be used to assess the osteochondral healing rate.

NCT ID: NCT03696264 Completed - Healthy Clinical Trials

Protein Requirements in Resistance-trained Males

Start date: March 6, 2017
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

In this study, the investigators will use the minimally invasive indicator amino acid oxidation (IAAO) technique to determine protein requirements in resistance-trained males. It is hypothesized that the present study will show that protein requirements for resistance-trained males are i) greater than the current recommended dietary allowance (RDA) for non-active individual's comparable estimates, and ii) greater than existing nitrogen balance-based estimates for resistance-training individuals.
