There are about 28871 clinical studies being (or have been) conducted in Canada. The country of the clinical trial is determined by the location of where the clinical research is being studied. Most studies are often held in multiple locations & countries.
This study will examine whether patients with diabetes who are either 1) newly discharged from hospital or 2) referred to an endocrinologist for management will have better diabetes outcomes when their care is managed primarily by a dedicated case manager (intervention) than by an endocrinologist (standard care) after 6 months of treatment.
The purpose of this study is to evaluate the safety, reactogenicity, and immunogenicity of different formulations of a two-dose primary series and booster vaccination of monovalent Influenza H9N2 vaccine manufactured in Quebec, Canada with and without adjuvant, in adults 18 to 64 years of age.
The investigators propose that Arterial Spin Labelling Functional Magnetic Imaging will be able to capture functional changes associated with caloric vestibular stimulation and better delineate the etiology of the pain augmentation that has been documented with this intervention.
The purpose of this study is to to test the feasibility of design methods and procedures for later use on a larger scale and to examine the acute and chronic effect of consumption of flavanol-rich chocolate on endothelium function and blood pressure in healthy pregnant women.
The purpose of this study is to develop a new intervention to improve the transition of patients from structured, supervised exercise to self-managed home- or approved community-based exercise programs in an effort to increase maintenance of exercise behaviour post cardiac rehabilitation (CR). The goal of the study is that those receiving the intervention will engage in at least 30 minutes of physical activity at a moderate or vigorous intensity 5 or more days per week, 26, 52 and 78 weeks after CR compared to those in the usual care group. The new intervention will be delivered by trained exercise facilitators (physiotherapists or exercise specialists) and will make use of: small group counseling teleconferences (5 sessions); personal telephone contacts (3 sessions), and community program demonstrations that would facilitate linkages between patients and approved community programs known as Heart Wise Exercise programs available in Ottawa and Toronto. The trial will be conducted at the Minto Prevention and Rehabilitation Centre at the University of Ottawa Heart Institute and the Cardiovascular Rehabilitation and Prevention Centre at the University Health Network (Peter Munk Cardiac Centre [PMCC] and Toronto Rehabilitation Institute [TRI]) sites. The study has a target enrollment of 604 participants.
Communication is critical within healthcare, and is the root cause of most errors. With increased adoption and use of new information technologies and mediated communication systems, such as Electronic Health Records (EHR), that support visual content, hospitals can begin to look at the potential of photographic aids to improve patient satisfaction, clinician communication, and ultimately quality of care. Having pictures of clinicians and patients may improve communication by improving knowledge of who is part of the care team and may reduce electronic ordering or documentation on the wrong patient. Despite the importance of communication between clinicians and the many advances within information and communication technologies, there is a lack of literature documenting systems that are effective at improving communication. Our research study will provide an overview on the communication models and technologies used in Canadian hospitals and add insights to the impacts of these technological adoption. Research Question: How does the use of photographic influence patients' hospital experience? Specifically, do photographic aids (photographs of clinicians' faces) influence: 1. Patient's ability to identify their clinical care team members 2. Patient's ability to identify their care team members and know their individual roles 3. Patient's satisfaction with their hospital experience
This study is designed to evaluate the effect of Tysabri on cognition in multiple sclerosis (MS) patients. During a period of 24 months, the study will assess the evolution of cognitive function in Tysabri treated MS patients using the Symbol Digit Modalities Test (SDMT) and the CogState battery of tests.
The primary objective of this study is to evaluate the effectiveness and feasibility of the implementation of revised standards of care for oral hygiene (SAGE Q-care q2 Oral Cleansing and Suctioning System with and without chlorhexidine gluconate) relative to the current routine standard of care in mechanically ventilated patients admitted to the adult Intensive Care Units in Alberta Health Services Calgary Zone. This pilot study will evaluate the feasibility of performing a larger definitive study. The primary assessment of effectiveness for the definitive study will be the proportion of patients who develop ventilator-associated pneumonia.
This is a phase 1/2 multicenter study to assess the safety and effectiveness of brentuximab vedotin and bendamustine, when given together, in patients with Hodgkin Lymphoma or Anaplastic Large Cell Lymphoma (ALCL) that has either returned or did not respond to initial treatment(s). Patients will be accrued at Columbia University Medical Center (CUMC) and at two subsites in Canada.
Background: Several risk score models are now available to assist clinicians estimate outcomes after an acute ischemic stroke. Limited information is available on the predictive value of these scores compared to real outcomes and clinical judgment. Objectives: To compare clinician judgment with the use of a validated stroke risk score (iScore) and patients' outcomes.
