This study will investigate the effect of tirzepatide on the reduction of morbidity and mortality in adults living with obesity and provide additional evidence for the potential clinical benefits of tirzepatide in this population.
Endometrin is a progesterone supplement prescribed during in vitro fertilization (IVF) for preparation for embryo transfer. The usual dose of Endometrin is 100 mg two to three times per day in the form of an effervescent tablet to be inserted vaginally. The purpose of this research project is to evaluate the dose response of the Endometrin when determined based on the blood level of progesterone on the day of the FET. According to the literature, a predefined level of progesterone in the blood should be reached in order to have favorable conditions for pregnancy. The hypothesis being that a woman with low progesterone levels would benefit from a dose of Endometrin of 600 mg (200 mg 3x/day) to decrease the risk of miscarriage and improve the chances of pregnancy. Women with adequate progesterone levels according to the literature, would continue with the standard dose of progesterone prescribed at clinique ovo which is 300 mg (100 mg 3x/day). PIBF (Progesterone Induced Blocking Factor) levels, a protein found in the blood that could also predict pregnancy outcomes in women using IVF will also be looked at.
The primary objective will be to determine the effect of leucine-enriched essential amino acids (LEAA) compared to carbohydrate placebo on dietary incorporation of [D5] Phenylalanine & [D5] Glycine into the three skeletal muscle protein pools (myofibrillar, sarcoplasmic and collagen), both following resistance exercise and at rest, with the two tracers provided as a 'intrinsically labeled' bolus. Other outcomes will relate to molecular regulation of protein synthesis.
Background: By 2030, 23% of Canadians will be over 65 years of age. Two in five of these individuals will be diagnosed with cancer. Older adults have high levels of functional decline, and a cancer diagnosis adds prolonged physical sequelae to the natural aging process. Many of these effects can be mitigated by regular exercise. However, older adult cancer survivors are significantly less likely to meet current exercise guidelines than their younger counterparts. As our population ages, we need to develop effective, scalable interventions that support health in older adult cancer survivors. The objective of this study is to determine the feasibility and preliminary effectiveness of a virtually delivered peer exercise intervention with qualified exercise professional (QEP) support for older adult cancer survivors. Methods: Participants will include older adult cancer survivors who are cleared for exercise, have consistent access to the internet, and currently take part in less than 150 minutes of exercise per week. All participants will be matched with a partner, given a peer support guide, and information on current exercise guidelines. In addition to being matched with a peer, dyads in the intervention group will have weekly virtual sessions with a QEP for 10 weeks. Participants in the control group will independently support their partner around exercise for 10 weeks. Outcomes: Participants will be assessed at 3 time points. The primary outcome is feasibility. This will be measured by assessing recruitment, retention, adherence rates to the intervention, and participant acceptability and satisfaction. Secondary effectiveness outcomes include exercise volume, social support, quality of life, physical function, and physical activity enjoyment. Impact: If effective, this will be the first virtual peer-based exercise intervention for older adult cancer survivors. Findings will inform future methods aimed at increasing exercise in older adults.
VBI-2901a is an investigational vaccine candidate that uses enveloped virus-like particles (eVLPs) to express the spike proteins of three coronaviruses: SARS-CoV-2 (the virus that causes COVID-19 disease), SARS-CoV-1 and MERS-CoV. The trivalent vaccine candidate is designed to induce neutralizing antibody and cell-mediated immune responses against the spike protein of the original strain of SARS-CoV-2, SARS-CoV-2 variants (such as Beta, Delta and Omicron) and other related coronaviruses that could emerge in the future. The Phase 1 study will be an open-label comparison of two intramuscular doses of VBI-2901a at 5 µg or 10 µg per dose or one dose of VBI-2901a at 10 µg per dose in adults 18 to 64 years of age who had previously received two or more vaccinations with licensed COVID-19 vaccines. The purpose of the study is to test the safety of VBI-2901a and to know more about its ability to boost immune response against SARS-CoV-2 (the virus that causes COVID-19 disease) and two other related coronaviruses SARS-CoV-1 and MERS-CoV.
A multicentre, prospective observational study to develop the CELIAC-Q KIDS patient reported outcome measure for children and adolescents with celiac disease. The CELIAC- Q KIDS will contain a comprehensive set of independently functioning scales designed to measure outcomes that matter to children with celiac disease, as well as scales to measure patients experience with the gluten-free diet.
Study to evaluate the efficacy, safety and tolerability of ponsegromab compared to placebo in patients with cancer, cachexia, and elevated GDF 15.
Osteoarthritis (OA) is a debilitating disease affecting approximately 1/3 of Canadians over the age of 25. Knee OA typically involves at least 2 of 3 compartments in the knee joint. Conservative treatments include knee braces to manage symptoms and improve joint function. Most knee OA braces are designed to offload one knee compartment, but are not usually indicated for multicompartment knee OA. The Levitation Tri-compartment Offloader (TCO) knee brace stores energy during flexion and provides extension assistance to offload all 3 knee compartments. While there is strong preliminary evidence that the TCO can provide pain relief and improved knee function to users, it is critical to determine whether this brace will have similar benefits for patients with multicompartment knee OA. This pilot randomized control trial evaluates the clinical outcomes of using the TCO in comparison to the current conservative standard of care for knee OA patients.
This is a single-patient, phase I/II clinical trial that aims to evaluate the potential of bacteriophage therapy to treat and prevent the recurrence of a drug-resistant urinary tract infection with serious long-term effects. This study will follow a minimally invasive phage therapy approach consisting of oral, topical (opening of the urethra) and bladder installations of a 3-phage cocktail comprised of HP3, HP3.1 and ES19.
The purpose of this study is to assess long-term safety of avacincaptad pegol intravitreal administration for patients with geographic atrophy (GA) who completed Study ISEE2008 (GATHER2) through the Month 24 visit on study treatment (either avacincaptad pegol or Sham).
