There are about 28871 clinical studies being (or have been) conducted in Canada. The country of the clinical trial is determined by the location of where the clinical research is being studied. Most studies are often held in multiple locations & countries.
This project compares two models of the Serious Illness Care Program (SICP) in primary care: clinician-focused SICP and team-based SICP. Discussion and planning for serious illness care can help patients identify what is most important to them and assure they receive care that best matches their goals and values, such as spending more time at home or not being in pain.
People with elevated blood sugar levels are at increased risk of developing chronic medical conditions such as obesity, type 2 diabetes, and cardiovascular disease. Improving cardiorespiratory fitness (CRF) in adults with elevated blood sugar levels is important for preventing the onset of such medical conditions. The primary aim of this study is to determine whether providing a choice between two different types of exercise in a diabetes prevention intervention improves perceived autonomy, exercise motivation, physical activity behavior, and subsequently CRF to a greater extent than imposed exercise among adults with elevated blood sugar.
Heart transplantation is a life saving therapy for people with end stage heart failure. Acute rejection, a process where the immune system recognizes the transplanted heart as foreign and mounts a response against it, remains a clinical problem despite improvements in immunosuppressive drugs. Acute rejection occurs in 20-30% of patients within the first 3 months post-transplant, and is currently detected by highly invasive heart tissue biopsies that happen 12-15 times in the first year post-transplant. Replacing the biopsy with a simple blood test is of utmost value to patients and will reduce healthcare costs. The goal of our project is to develop a new blood test to monitor heart transplant rejection. Advances in biotechnology have enabled simultaneous measurement of many molecules (e.g., proteins, nucleic acids) in blood, driving the development of new diagnostics. Our team is a leader in using computational tools to combine information from numerous biological molecules and clinical data to generate "biomarker panels" that are more powerful than existing diagnostic tests. Our sophisticated analytic methods has recently derived HEARTBiT, a promising test of acute rejection comprising 9 RNA biomarkers, from the measurement of 30,000 blood molecules in 150 Canadian heart transplant patients. Our objective is to study a custom-built HEARTBiT test in a setting and on a technology that enable clinical adoption. We will evaluate the new test on 400 new patients from 5 North American transplant centres. We will also track patients' HEARTBiT scores over time to help predict future rejection, and explore use of proteins and micoRNAs to improve HEARTBiT. Our work will provide the basis for a future clinical trial. The significance of this work rests in that it will provide a tool to identify acute cardiac rejection in a fast, accurate, cost-effective and minimally invasive manner, allowing for facile long-term monitoring and therapy tailoring for heart transplant patients.
Open Label Extension Study of Voxelotor Clinical Trial Participants with Sickle Cell Disease Who Participated in Voxelotor Clinical Trials
Living with an abusive partner has many negative impacts on women's health, safety and the quality of their lives. These issues often continue when women separate, or take steps to separate, from an abusive partner, and can make it more difficult to create a new life. However, few supports are available to help women manage their health and other challenges around the time of separation. The Intervention for Health Enhancement and Living (iHEAL) was specifically developed to support women at this time. In iHEAL, women work with a Registered Nurse on issues that affect that their health and well-being in 10 and 18 visits that take place in a safe, private location over a 6 month period. The woman decides which issues she would like to work on, with nurses providing personalized help and support that fits with the woman's needs, goals and wishes. This includes helping her connect to local services if she chooses. The purpose of this study is to learn whether iHEAL can improve the health and quality of life of women who have separated, or are taking steps to separate, from an abusive partner. To do this, 280 Canadian women from 3 provinces will be offered either iHEAL nurse visits or information about community services that they can use on their own. All participants will complete online surveys when they first start the study and 6 12, and 18 months later to examine whether there are changes in their health, quality of life, confidence and/or control. We also want to learn whether iHEAL is more helpful for some groups of women and whether any benefits to women that are identified outweigh the costs of providing the intervention. A small group of ~30-40 women will be asked to take part in an interview about what is was like to take part in this study when they complete the trial so that we can learn how to further improve iHEAL.
The purpose of the study is to identify the maximum tolerated dose (MTD) of JNJ-64619178 in participants with relapsed/refractory B cell non-Hodgkin lymphoma (NHL) or advanced solid tumors and also to identify the recommended Phase 2 dose(s) (RP2Ds) of JNJ-64619178 for NHL and advanced solid tumors (Part 1) and to confirm the tolerability of JNJ-64619178 in participants with lower risk myelodysplastic syndromes (MDS) (Part 2).
The objective of this study is to assess the efficacy and safety of upadacitinib for the treatment of adolescent and adult participants with moderate to severe atopic dermatitis (AD) who are candidates for systemic therapy.
The standard or usual treatment for this disease is to undergo chemotherapy to slow the spread of disease and relieve some symptoms of cancer. One of the standard types of chemotherapy is a drug called paclitaxel (Taxol) given in a low dose every week for three out of four weeks. CFI-402257 is a new type of drug for breast cancer. Laboratory tests show that it may help slow the growth of breast cancer. This drug has been shown to shrink tumours in animals. CFI-402257 has been studied in a few people and appears well tolerated with little side effects. CFI-402257 seems promising but it is not clear if it can offer better results when given with paclitaxel compared to paclitaxel alone.
The objective of CLI-06657AA1-04 (formerly PB-102-F60) is to evaluate the long-term safety, tolerability, and efficacy parameters of 1 mg/kg pegunigalsidase alfa administered intravenously every other week in adult Fabry patients who have successfully completed studies PB-102-F03, PB-102-F20 or PB-102-F30.
