There are about 10004 clinical studies being (or have been) conducted in Brazil. The country of the clinical trial is determined by the location of where the clinical research is being studied. Most studies are often held in multiple locations & countries.
Cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB) is known to alter pharmacokinetics (PK) and brain sensitivity to several drugs, including propofol. Few studies, however, have tested if propofol pharmacokinetical alterations observed after CPB could contribute to the increased hypnotic effect of propofol after CPB. This study was designed to test the hypothesis that changes in the PK of propofol contribute to an increase in its hypnotic effects after CPB as evidenced by changes in bispectral index (BIS) values. Twenty undergoing coronary artery bypass graft patients will be allocated in two groups: 1) CPB groups and 2) off-pump coronary artery bypass graft. Bispectral Index values and blood samples for plasma propofol concentration measurements will be collected along the surgery and up to 12 hours in the post-operative period. Plasma propofol concentrations, Bispectral index values and propofol PK will be compared between the groups.
The primary objective: - To demonstrate in patients hospitalized for an acute medical illness that enoxaparin with Graduated Elastic Stockings is superior to enoxaparin-placebo with Graduated Elastic Stockings on overall mortality at day 30 after randomization. The secondary objective: - To compare, in patients hospitalized for an acute medical illness, enoxaparin with Graduated Elastic Stockings versus enoxaparin placebo with Graduated Elastic Stockings on overall mortality at day 90 after randomization. - To evaluate the safety of enoxaparin VTE prophylaxis in patients hospitalized for acute medical illness with respect to major hemorrhage, total bleedings, heparin induced thrombocytopenia, adverse events and serious adverse events .
The purpose of this study is to determine whether ceftaroline is effective and safe in the treatment of Community-Acquired Pneumonia
The aim of this study was to compare the safety and efficacy of warfarin versus placebo, administered for 6 months, in the prevention of thromboembolic complications after transvenous cardiac devices implantation in high-risk patients.
A 104-week, randomized, double-blind, parallel group, multi-center Phase IIIb study comparing the effects of treatment with rosuvastatin 40 mg or atorvastatin 80 mg on atherosclerotic disease burden as measured by intravascular ultrasound in patients with coronary artery disease.
RATIONALE: Monoclonal antibodies, such as Hu3S193, can block tumor growth in different ways. Some block the ability of tumor cells to grow and spread. Others find tumor cells and help kill them or carry tumor-killing substances to them. PURPOSE: This phase II trial is studying how well Hu3S193 works in treating patients with ovarian epithelial cancer, fallopian tube cancer, or peritoneal cavity cancer.
Enthuse M1C is a large phase III clinical trial studying the safety and efficacy of ZD4054 (Zibotentan) in combination with docetaxel (Taxotere) in patients with metastatic hormone resistant prostate cancer (HRPC). This clinical trial will test if the Endothelin A Receptor Antagonist ZD4054 (Zibotentan) can further improve survival compared with docetaxel alone. ZD4054 (Zibotentan) is a new type of agent, which is thought to slow tumour growth and spread by blocking Endothelin A receptor activity. This trial will look at the effects of ZD4054 (Zibotentan) in hormone resistant prostate cancer patients with bone metastases compared with docetaxel. All patients participating in this clinical trial will receive docetaxel chemotherapy, which is a commonly used chemotherapy to treat prostate cancer in addition to other existing prostate cancer therapies. Half the patients will receive ZD4054 (Zibotentan), and half the patients will receive placebo in addition to docetaxel and other prostate cancer therapy. By participating in this trial there is a 50% chance that patients will receive an agent that may further slow the progression of the tumour. No patients will be deprived of standard prostate cancer therapy.
This study will determine the efficacy and safety of RO4917838 in patients with schizophrenia who are stable on current antipsychotic treatment (olanzapine, que tiapine, risperidone, paliperidone or aripiprazole) with prominent negative or d isorganized thought symptoms. After a 4 week run in period on their current anti psychotic treatment, patients will be randomized to receive placebo 10mg, 30mg, or 60mg of RO4917838 once daily, p.o., as add-on therapy. The anticipated time o n study treatment is <3 months, and the target sample size is 100-500 individual s.
This randomized, double-blind, placebo controlled phase II trial is studying how well capecitabine works when given in combination with WX-671 or when given alone in treating patients receiving first-line therapy for her2negative metastatic breast cancer.
Objective: To investigate whether patients undergoing aquatic physiotherapy in groups improve their functional capacity, by means of the distance covered in the six-minute walk test (6WT), and to compare this with a control group. Methods: Forty women that had not been practicing regular physical activity for one year were randomly allocated either to the Study Group (SG) to undergo an aquatic physiotherapy program in groups applied twice a week, including aerobic exercises, muscle strengthening and relaxation for 12 weeks, or to the Control Group (CG), which did not do any physical activity. Both groups maintained their treatment with medications. All patients underwent two evaluations: one at the start and the other after 12 weeks.
