Clinical Concordance Study Between Watson for Oncology and Clinician Practice

At present, Watson for Oncology has been applied in 14 countries worldwide, including China, the United States, Holland, Thailand, India, Korea, Poland, Slovakia and Bangladesh. In a double-blind study involving 362 patients in India, treatment recommendations from Watson for Oncology (WFO) performed a high degree of consistency with their multidisciplinary tumor board. The investigators would recruit cancer patients diagnosed as lung cancer, breast cancer, gastric cancer, colon cancer, rectal cancer,cervical cancer or ovarian cancer according to the criteria of Watson for Oncology ,using the updated version of Watson for Oncology to explore the concordance of therapeutic regimen between WFO and physicians in the Affiliated Hospital of Qingdao University.

Nutritional Status Assessment in the Elderly Suffering From Cancer : a National Cross-UCOG Survey

Protein-energy malnutrition (PEM) is a frequent condition in patients suffering from cancer, especially the elderly. According to some studies, this malnutrition has important consequences in this population, by increasing the risk of treatment toxicities, premature interruption of chemotherapy, mortality and risks of complications. Identifying cases of malnutrition is an objective pursued by the National Nutrition and Health Programme and an important task of the "Unités de Coordination en Oncogériatrie". The main goal of this study is to assess the loss of weight over the 6 month-period preceding the cancer treatment, regardless of kind (chemotherapy, targeted therapy, hormone therapy, immunotherapy, radiation therapy, surgery, comfort care), in the elderly suffering from cancer.

Treating Pain in Children With Cancer: Pain Buddy

The purpose of this study is to examine the feasibility of the ambulatory monitoring protocol, called Pain Buddy, in documenting children's pain, symptoms and quality of life while receiving outpatient chemotherapy. The long term goal of Pain Buddy is to help doctors, nurses, and parents get the information they need to give children treatments for pain and symptom management that work. Using Pain Buddy, we aim to quantify the prevalence and intensity of daily pain and symptom episodes in children at home, data that will be used to develop a psychosocial intervention to be delivered electronically to children at home with a goal of improving quality of life. Secondary aims also include examining children's quality of life pre- and post- Pain Buddy and satisfaction with the use of Pain Buddy. This project has the potential to improve the quality of life of tens of thousands of children suffering from cancer each year using transformative mobile health information technology based approach to pain assessment and management.

Impact of Caloric and Protein Adequacy on Postoperative Clinical Outcomes of Patients Undergoing Major Abdominal Surgery

The role of nutritional therapy (TN) in the surgical patient is well described in the literature and is associated with reductions in postoperative complications, length of hospital stay, and mortality. Adequate determination of caloric and protein requirements is an essential step in the TN institution, avoiding hypoalimentation and hyperalimentation. Thus, it is essential to understand the changes in energy expenditure after surgery and its relation with nutritional status. In addition, little is known about the effect of nutritional therapy and caloric adequacy on parameters such as phase angle and dynamometry. Thus, the objective of this study is to evaluate the changes in energy expenditure after major abdominal surgeries and to evaluate the phase angle and dynamometry as possible markers of nutritional therapy. Energy expenditure will be assessed by indirect calorimetry. Functionality will be assessed by means of dynamometry and 6-minute walk test. Nutritional diagnosis will be given through subjective global assessment. Energy and protein intake will be monitored and registered daily. Phase angle will be obtained by performing bioelectrical impedance.

ADOPT-PRESTAGE: Study Evaluating the Impact of the Program PRESTAGE

As the proportion of oral anticancer treatments is continuously increasing, adherence appears as a major issue for patients' outcomes. Poor adherence affects particularly geriatric patients due among others to polypharmacy or cognitive impairment. Thus, the need for educational programs in this population has been regularly emphasized. PRESTAGE educational program was built after an external and internal analysis of educational needs in elderly patients treated with oral cancer treatments. It implicates a multidisciplinary educational team (nurses, physicians, pharmacists, psychologists, physiologists, social workers...). Six educational workshops were designed with the following endpoints: disease and treatment understanding, treatment management, nutrition and psychological as well as physical well being. ADOPT-PRESTAGE is a clinical, prospective, interventional, open-label, multicenter, randomized, controlled trial designed to evaluate the impact of PRESTAGE program. It is, to the investigators' knowledge, the first randomized controlled trial evaluating the acceptability and impact (adherence, clinical benefit) of an educational program in an elderly cancer population. The primary endpoint of this trial will be to evaluate adherence using an indirect objective adherence measure: the Medication Event Monitoring System (MEMS). Secondary endpoints include quality of life and evaluation of changes in patients' behaviors.
