Testing the Combination of MLN4924 (Pevonedistat), Carboplatin, and Paclitaxel in Patients With Advanced Non-small Cell Lung Cancer (NSCLC) Who Have Previously Been Treated With Immunotherapy

This phase II trial studies how well MLN4924 (pevonedistat), carboplatin, and paclitaxel work in treating patients with stage IIIB or IV non-small cell lung cancer. Pevonedistat may stop the growth of cancer cells by blocking some of the enzymes needed for cell growth. Chemotherapy drugs, such as carboplatin and paclitaxel, work in different ways to stop the growth of cancer cells, either by killing the cells, by stopping them from dividing, or by stopping them from spreading. Giving pevonedistat together with carboplatin and paclitaxel may work better in treating patients with non-small cell lung cancer when compared with other standard chemotherapy drugs.

One-Year Quality of Life and Functional Prognosis of COVID-19 Patients in Post-ICU Setting

The COVID-19 disease has been subject to numerous publications since its emergence. Almost 20% of people suffering from COVID-19 develop severe to critical symptoms and require hospitalization, often in Intensive Care Unit (ICU). Respiratory failure is the main reason for admission in ICU of these patients. Therapeutic strategies implemented for the management of critically-ill patients may often lead to short-term muscular and functional alterations resulting in ICU-Acquired Weakness (ICUAW). These lead to long-term disabilities expressing trough dependence and quality of life impairment of survivors. The purpose of this study is to assess the quality of life, dependence and survival at one year in patients who survived from COVID-19 in ICU and are admitted in post-ICU setting for difficult weaning purpose. Ancillary studies aim to assess the course of muscle function (atrophy, structural modifications), lung function (loss of aeration) and safety of early mobilization.

Reducing COVID-19 Related Hospital Admission in Elderly by BCG Vaccination

Bacillus Calmette-Guérin (BCG) vaccine not only protects against tuberculosis, but has also been shown to induce protection against various infections with a viral aetiology, leading to significant reductions in morbidity and mortality. We hypothesize that BCG vaccination might be a potent preventive measure against SARS-CoV-2 infection and/or may reduce disease severity in elderly people, who are known to be at increased risk of illness and death from SARS-CoV-2 infection. Therefore, we will in this placebo-controlled adaptive multi-centre randomized controlled trial evaluate the ability of BCG to reduce hospital admission and its efficacy to improve the clinical course of SARS-CoV-2 infection in elderly people((≥ 60 years of age).

Recent studies have shown that some individuals may be asymptomatic but continue to shed the COVID-19 virus. These individuals may represent a population that can unknowingly transmit the virus. Healthcare workers (HCW) may acquire COVID-19 from the community or from possibly infected patients. It is important to gather data with respect to this to further understand the prevalence of asymptomatic carriage in individuals who work in research facilities, offices and clinical areas of hospitals and research facilities/institutes since this has important implications for infection control, as well as staff and patient safety. The purpose of this study is to test whether a proportion of these individuals may be asymptomatic shedders of the COVID-19 virus.

Clinical Trial to Evaluate the Efficacy and Safety of MegaCarti® in Knee Cartilage Defects

The MegaCarti® is the decellularized allogeneic cartilage and acts as a cover after bone marrow stimulation to prevent the loss of blood clots and induces cartilage regeneration by assisting in the location of stem cells derived from bone marrow. The MegaCarti® is applied after Microfracture treatment on patients with Knee Cartilage Defects. The cartilage regeneration, which is a primary endpoint, is compared to the Microfracture group through MOCART evaluation. In addition, the improvement of pain and the recovery of Normal Range of motion are compared to the Microfracture group through secondary endpoints. Then, long-term follow-up study for 5 years is conducted to the experimental group.

Rosacea and Ivermectin

The primary hypothesis is that weekly digital interactions and routine measurement of TEWL rates and SC hydration levels will promote patient adherence to maintenance ivermectin therapy and prevent disease relapse. The project will consist of a trial in which thirty subjects with rosacea receive ivermectin therapy and are randomized to receive either no intervention, a weekly digital survey to assess patient's attitudes towards ivermectin therapy, or a portal hydration measurement device that measures TEWL rates and SC hydration levels. The study team will measure adherence objectively in all groups with electronic monitors attached to the containers of the ivermectin, which all subjects will be told to use daily for maintenance therapy. Additionally, the hydration measurement device can transmit data to an Internet server via a smartphone using Bluetooth technology, thereby allowing providers to monitor a patient's TEWL rate and SC levels.
