NCT ID: NCT00539799 Withdrawn - Lupus Nephritis Clinical Trials

Steroids in the Maintenance of Remission of Proliferative Lupus Nephritis

SIMPL
Start date: n/a
Phase: Phase 3
Study type: Interventional

There is debate as to whether long-term low-dose steroids such as prednisolone help to suppress relapses of systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) in patients who are in remission from their lupus nephritis. If low-dose prednisolone reduces relapses, these beneficial effects may be counter-balanced by the long-term side-effects associated with prednisolone. This pilot study will determine the feasibility of conducting a larger randomized control trial that will answer the question of whether or not long-term low-dose prednisolone (5 - 7.5 mg/day) reduces the flares of SLE in patients with previous lupus nephritis.

NCT ID: NCT00542711 Withdrawn - Healthy Clinical Trials

Bio-availability of a New Liquid Tumeric Extract

Start date: n/a
Phase: Phase 1
Study type: Interventional

Curcumin is a commonly-used spice and food coloring. Evidence suggests that curcumin can suppress tumor initiation, promotion and metastasis in a variety of tumor cell lines. The current available curcumin has low bioavailability restricting the effect of curcumin in non-colon cancer. In this study we plan to test a new liquid tumeric/curcumin extract, Curcumol (patent pending, Israel Patent Application No. 181,121). We predict the bioavailability of the liquid tumeric/curcumin extract will be better compared to the currently used curcumin powder.

NCT ID: NCT00547326 Withdrawn - Clinical trials for Otitis Media With Effusion

The Effect of Osteopatic Cranial Techniques on the Audiometric and Tympanometric Values in Children Suffering From Otitis Media With Effusion.

Start date: n/a
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

Children with otitis media with effusion will be treated with osteopatic cranial techniques or with a placebo treatment. Before and after the treatment audiometric and tympanometric measures will take place. This procedure will be repeated 3 times, once a week and every session will last for 30-45 minutes. The fourth week, only audiometry and tympanomtry will be done.

NCT ID: NCT00548106 Withdrawn - Growth Failure Clinical Trials

Safety Study of Infant Formula With Partially Hydrolized Whey

Start date: n/a
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

The study will be a randomized, double-blind, prospective trial. Newborn infants (enrollment age 0-14 days) will be assigned randomly to receive one of two products, provided in identical packages except for the lid color. Neither the investigators nor the parents will know which product the infant is receiving. The infants will be monitored at study enrollment, and at 4, 8, and 12 weeks of age. There will be two study groups, each receiving one of the following formulas: 1. The new partially hydrolyzed whey formula (NF) - Materna cow's milk infant formula containing partially hydrolyzed whey protein, produced and packaged by Materna Laboratories, Maabarot. 2. The currently marketed partially hydrolyzed whey formula (CF) - Nan HA, produced by Nestlé. In order to maintain blinding, the Nan HA will be repacked in packaging identical to the Materna product, except for the lid color

NCT ID: NCT00560807 Withdrawn - Whiplash Injuries Clinical Trials

Manual Therapy Dosage Factorial Study

Start date: n/a
Phase: Phase 2/Phase 3
Study type: Interventional

This study will determine biological responses to different dosages of neck mobilization intervention in patients, providing opportunities to identify the optimal dosage, predictors of response, outcome measures as well as the longitudinal changes in biology. Subjects with acute whiplash associated disorders (WAD) II and III with a symptom duration of less than 30 days (acute) or 30 to 90 days (subacute) will be randomly assigned to receive different doses of mobilization. The dosage treatment groups will differ in the number of sessions (1, 2 or 3 times per week) and the duration of treatment (duration of treatment intervention will be 3, 6, or 12 weeks). A zero treatment/week option is included to insure that the impact of any mobilization is included and because previous studies suggest a single mobilization may have a treatment effect. All patient participants will receive a core standard treatment of education, advice to stay active, and neck/postural stretching and strengthening exercise. All patient participants will receive supervised exercise and advice for the full 12 weeks. All patients will be provided with an instructional CD and exercise brochure to reinforce the whole program. Follow-up assessments will consist of quantitative sensory testing (vibration threshold; current perception threshold), the Neck Walk Index (NWI), the Upper Cyclical Reach and Grasp Task, muscle biology analyses (cytokine analyses), central breathing control tests (capnography), range of motion, head flexion endurance, and self-report symptoms and disability (Visual Analogue Scale; Neck Disability Index; Disabilities of the Arm, Shoulder, Hand; pain threshold and tolerance algometry; and perceived self-efficacy; SF-36). Hypothesis: During recovery, patient are expected to transition from an acute painful state to one where they can resume normal activity and add intensive strengthening exercises.

NCT ID: NCT00561366 Withdrawn - Clinical trials for Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis

A Multicenter, Double-Blind Study to Investigate the Safety and Efficacy of Arimoclomol in Volunteers With ALS

Start date: n/a
Phase: Phase 2
Study type: Interventional

Arimoclomol is a small molecule that upregulates "molecular chaperones" in cells under stress. Arimoclomol extends survival by five weeks when given both pre-symptomatically and at disease onset in a mutant superoxide dismutase (SOD1) transgenic mouse model of ALS. Furthermore, it has been demonstrated to have neuroprotective and neuroregenerative effects in other rat models of nerve damage. Molecular chaperone proteins are critical in the cellular response to stress and protein misfolding. Recent data suggest that the SOD1 mutation responsible for ALS in some patients with familial disease reduces the availability of a variety of molecular chaperones, and thus weakens their ability to respond to cellular stress. Protein misfolding and consequent aggregation may play a role in the pathogenesis of both the familial and sporadic forms of ALS. Therapeutic agents such as arimoclomol that improve cellular chaperone response to protein misfolding may be helpful in ALS.

NCT ID: NCT00571740 Withdrawn - Colorectal Cancer Clinical Trials

Cetuximab and Bevacizumab as First-Line Therapy Followed By Combination Chemotherapy and Bevacizumab With or Without Cetuximab as Second-Line Therapy in Treating Patients With Stage IV Colorectal Cancer

Start date: n/a
Phase: Phase 2
Study type: Interventional

RATIONALE: Monoclonal antibodies, such as cetuximab and bevacizumab, can block tumor growth in different ways. Some block the ability of tumor cells to grow and spread. Others find tumor cells and help kill them or carry tumor-killing substances to them. Bevacizumab may also stop the growth of tumor cells by blocking blood flow to the tumor. Drugs used in chemotherapy, such as oxaliplatin, leucovorin, and fluorouracil, work in different ways to stop the growth of tumor cells, either by killing the cells or by stopping them from dividing. Giving monoclonal antibodies together with combination chemotherapy may kill more tumor cells. PURPOSE: This randomized phase II trial is studying how well giving cetuximab together bevacizumab works as first-line therapy, followed by combination chemotherapy and bevacizumab with or without cetuximab as second-line therapy in treating patients with stage IV colorectal cancer.
