Bruxism is a common phenomenon. It is estimated that its prevalence in the adult population is 8-31%. Bruxism occurring during sleep is the activity of the masticatory muscles that appear during sleep, which can be rhythmic or phased and is not a movement disorder or sleep disorder in healthy people. It is currently believed that bruxism should not be considered a disorder. In healthy people, it is treated rather as behavior, which may be a risk factor for pathological clinical implications or a protective factor in the presence of other disease entities. The most common symptoms of bruxism include: pathological wear and tooth sensitivity, periodontal and oral mucosa damage, myalgia in the stomatognathic system, headache and prosthetic restoration damage. However, due to nocturnal occurrence, bruxism symptoms may go unnoticed for a long time, which means that patients are often unaware of this behavior. The etiology of bruxism is multifactorial and not fully understood. It is currently believed that it can be caused by genetic, psychological and exogenous factors. Due to the unclear etiology of bruxism, it is so important to conduct research that allows making a certain diagnosis and finding the causes of this phenomenon
This is a randomized, open-label, single-institution trial designed to evaluate the effectiveness of a spray skin protector in preventing moist desquamation caused by radiotherapy treatment. This technology, spray skin protection, depending on the manufacturer, is primarily intended to prevent or reduce contact dermatitis. However, this study will be evaluated for use in preventing moist desquamation caused by ionizing radiation. The comparing agent will be a moisturizer, agreed upon at the local Institution of the study for use in the prevention of radiodermatitis. As secondary objectives: describe adverse events, diarrhea, pain and pruritus. The study will be conducted at the radiotherapy outpatient clinic of the Cancer Hospital I (HCI) of National Cancer Institute (INCA) in Brazil.
To date, little knowledge exists related to the use of hemodialysis (HD) in infants and has been limited to mainly single center studies. The CARPEDIEM (CArdio-Renal PEdiatric Dialysis Emergency Machine) device, which can be used to provide hemodialysis in infants, has been launched in the United States. This study/registry is designed to obtain data on critically ill infants who require HD using the CARPEDIEM device to understand the indications for initiation, best practice in prescribing and performing treatment, expected treatment course, and outcomes of a dedicated infant continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT) machine.
A split-belt treadmill (SBT) is a treadmill with two belts, whereby each leg can be driven at a different speed. Previous work by the investigators showed that one session of SBT training improved turning while multi-tasking and reduced FOG in PwPD tested in the laboratory. However, subsequent work raises questions as to whether treadmill improvements following repeated SBT training generalize to overground situations in the long term. Therefore, in this study, the investigators will perform a four-week SBT intervention with added practice of everyday turning scenarios (SBT+CP) or placebo exercise (SBT+PL), and study its effects on FOG in both the laboratory and at home.
Stroke is a highest reason of illness and death all over world. In 2017, stroke was the second greatest recurrent reason of mortality, after ischemic cardiac illness, and produced 6.2 million mortality all over world. The load of stroke does not only lie in the great mortality but the great morbidity also results in up to 50% of survivors being chronically disabled. Thus stroke is a disease of huge public health importance with economic and social consequences.
The primary objective of this study is to evaluate the influence of elbow position on achieving forearm supination and pronation and wrist ROM postoperatively. It is anticipated the results will show recovery of functional motion in a shorter period of time (27 days average). As for the secondary objective of the study, it is anticipated there will be limited pain and cost-containment. These data elements will serve as secondary factors to evaluate.
The purpose of this study is to determine if patients age 15 to 30 years old being treated for shoulder labrum repair and SLAP lesions have significant differences in pain levels postoperatively when treated with a combination therapy of ibuprofen, and acetaminophen compared to oxycodone. Participants will be randomly placed into either the control arm and receive scripts for non-narcotic medications (Tylenol and Ibuprofen) and opioids, or the experimental arm of the study. receiving only a prescription for the non-narcotic medications. Every patient will receive a preoperative Exparel nerve block as is the standard of care for this procedure. Both groups will fill out a pain journal for 14 days following surgery and complete a pill count at the first postoperative visit to validate the amount of pain medication documented in the pain journal.
This is a community intervention effectiveness study in female school students in Thailand. The study objectives are: 1. To demonstrate HPV vaccine effectiveness of Single Dose (SD) by a reduction in vaccine-type HPV prevalence (HPV 16 and HPV 18) at Year 2 and Year 4 post vaccination compared to unvaccinated same grade female students 2. To demonstrate that HPV vaccine effectiveness of SD and two-dose (2D) regimens are similar by comparing reductions in vaccine type prevalence at Year 2 and Year 4 post vaccination compared with the baseline surveys in the two provinces
Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), consisting of two major forms, Crohn's disease (CD) and ulcerative colitis, affects more than 1.6 million people in the United States alone. Despite current therapies, remission only occurs in approximately half of patients. The goal of study is to map single-cell spatial relationships across the spectrum of ileum/ascending colon from healthy control patients to uninvolved/quiescent and involved/active CD patients and assess for relationships between single-cell data and patient clinical data. The investigators will utilize endoscopic mucosal biopsies and surgical resection specimens with rapid transfer of fresh tissue to the single-cell preparation for RNA-sequencing and use of tissues for RNA-fluorescence in situ hybridization and multiplex immunofluorescence. Along with machine learning image analysis and bioinformatics, this will generate a robust/detailed single-cell gut cell atlas (GCA) of ileo-colonic CD at all disease activities versus normal tissues. The study will also compare the results of endoscopic mucosal biopsies to those obtained from full thickness surgical specimens by utilizing the Cooperative Human Tissue Network (CHTN). The investigators anticipate the GCA data will provide new insights into disease pathogenesis, leading to new therapeutic targets.
Fetal and neonatal alloimmune thrombocytopenia (FNAIT) is a disease caused by allo-immunisation during pregnancy. If left untreated, FNAIT can lead to severe fetal intracranial haemorrhage. This complication can be prevented by weekly administration of intravenous immunoglobulin (IVIg) to the mother during pregnancy. Knowledge on long-term development of FNAIT survivors with or without IVIg treatment is very limited but an important subject in the counselling of parents of newly diagnosed cases. To evaluate the long-term neurodevelopmental outcome in two groups of children with FNAIT will be asked to participate in our study in an outpatient clinic setting.
