Filter by:The purpose of this study is to enhance medical knowledge of the causes of future coronary problems. Many studies in patients who have already experienced a coronary problem point to the danger associated with plaques that are rich in cholesterol. This study determines if the near-infrared method of detection of these fatty plaques can predict future events. If dangerous plaques can be identified, there are many treatments already available that could be tested for their ability to prevent coronary events.
This randomized clinical study is intended to evaluate the use of Zilver PTX stents for treatment of thigh atherosclerosis. Research question: Is there an adjuvant benefit of angioplasty and stenting using the new paclitaxel eluting stent, Zilver-PTX, over risk factor modification and medical therapy alone in patients with stable, mild to moderate intermittent claudication caused by femoropopliteal lesions suitable for endovascular management.
Clinical trial phase III, prospective, controlled, randomized, open. We hypothesize work that patients with chronic coronary occlusion and poor myocardial viability who failed to recover ventricular function after subjecting coronary revascularization with new techniques of recanalization, could achieve an improvement of ventricular function if given further regenerative treatment with mononuclear cells from autologous bone marrow. To test this hypothesis we designed a prospective, randomized clinical trial in patients with recanalized chronic occlusions and ventricular dysfunction.
This VISION study aims to investigate the role of inflammation in atherosclerosis using 68Ga- DOTATATE PET, and to validate 68Ga-DOTATATE PET imaging for the detection and quantification of vascular inflammation in the aorta, coronary and carotid arteries. This study will test the hypothesis that in subjects undergoing carotid endarterectomy for symptomatic plaques, there will be a positive correlation between carotid artery 68Ga-DOTATATE PET signal and the underlying degree of carotid inflammation measured by immunohistochemical analysis.
Stroke is the first and the fourth leading cause of death in the United States and China, respectively. Disruption of cerebrovascular vulnerable atherosclerotic plaque is the major etiology of ischemic stroke. Therefore, early detection and treatment of vulnerable plaques occurring at the feeding arteries to brain (cerebral arteries) will be helpful for prevention of stroke. Atherosclerosis is a systemic disease that usually affects multiple vascular beds. Previous studies have shown that these high risk lesions in different segments of cerebral arteries (intracranial and extracranial arteries) might be racially specific. It is reported that, in stroke patients, intracranial vulnerable plaques are prevalent in Asian populations whereas atherosclerosis more frequently involves extracranial carotid arteries in American subjects. However, these findings are based on angiographic imaging approaches via measuring arterial luminal stenosis. Because the atherosclerotic plaque often appears as outward expansion, namely positive remodeling during progression, measuring luminal stenosis will underestimate the disease severity. Hence, directly viewing the plaque in the vessel wall is strongly suggested in order to objectively evaluate the cerebrovascular vulnerable plaque. High resolution, black-blood magnetic resonance (MR) imaging has been widely used to accurately characterize carotid vulnerable plaque in the last two decades. The aim of using MR black-blood techniques is to suppress the blood signal (black) to enhance the signal contrast between the vessel wall and blood in the arterial lumen. Excellent agreement has been achieved between MR imaging and histology in identification of plaque components, such as intraplaque hemorrhage and lipid core. For assessing carotid plaque, MR imaging is superior to computed tomography and ultrasound imaging techniques due to its advantages including noninvasive imaging, lack of ionizing radiation, excellent soft tissue resolution, and multi-parametric image acquisition. The Investigators hypothesize that there are specific characteristics in carotid vulnerable plaques in Chinese patients with ischemic cerebrovascular events such as ischemic stroke and transient ischemic attack (TIA). This study seeks to investigate the characteristics of vulnerable plaque in carotid arteries using high resolution, black-blood MR imaging in patients with recent TIA or ischemic stroke. This is a cross-sectional, multicenter study. A total of 1000 patients will be recruited from more than 10 different hospitals across China within 3 years. All patients will undergo MR imaging for brain and carotid arteries within two weeks after symptom onset. The prevalence of carotid vulnerable plaque and its correlations with brain ischemic lesions, traditional risk factors, and regional distribution of China will be determined.
The primary objective of this study is to prove the superior performance of the Rangerâ„¢ paclitaxel-coated PTA balloon catheter for angioplasty for femoropopliteal artery lesions when compared to non-coated balloons at six months post-procedure when comparing Late Lumen Loss (LLL). Study statistical hypothesis: The %-mean loss of luminal diameter as assessed by angiography at six months follow-up after treatment of the femoropopliteal artery with Ranger DCB study devices is lower than the %-mean loss of luminal diameter after treatment with uncoated PTA balloon control devices.
Hypothesis: Enlisted military members with 10 or more years of service and at least one cardiovascular risk factor will demonstrate a higher risk of future cardiac events as assessed by coronary artery calcium (CAC) scoring than the risk calculated by the Framingham Risk Score.
This study is to evaluate pharmacokinetics (PK), pharmacodynamics (PD) and safety of 160 mg enteric-coated micronised free base darapladib in healthy Chinese subjects.
Fractional flow reserve (FFR) is a test that can be performed at the time of heart catheterization. It measures the change in pressure across a narrowing in the heart artery during high flow situation, and provides reliable information about the functional severity of the narrowing. FFR measurements accurately predict whether a stent is needed, and is considered an excellent test before placement of stents to treat narrowed heart arteries. However, FFR is not used in every case because of the extra time needed and the associated device costs. Cardiac Services BC (an agency of Provincial Health Services Authority) is sponsoring this study to find out if FFR should be used in most cases (routine), rather than the current selective approach.
This single-center, randomized, placebo-controlled, double-blind study will assess the safety, pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics of RO6836191 in healthy male volunteers in two parts. Part 1 will assess the safety of oral single ascending doses of RO6836191 compared to placebo in fasted volunteers. In Part 2, participants will be given two single oral doses of RO6836191 or placebo under low or normal-salt diet conditions. A subset of these participants will subsequently receive a single IV dose of RO6836191 for further analysis.
