Effect of Preoperative Anxiety on Fetus in Pregnant Women

In the preoperative period, 60-80% of the patients had anxiety symptoms. This rate increases even more during pregnancy. There are a number of studies examining the role of anxiety symptoms on fetal outcome, but the mechanisms that explain the effects of maternal stress are not fully understood. The most extensively studied cytokines in neuropsychiatric disorders are TNF-α and IL-6 due to their effects on the central nervous system. TNF-α levels have been reported to be elevated in anxiety disorders. In our study, the investigators aimed to determine the relationship between preoperative anxiety levels and fetal cord blood TNF-α and IL-6 cytokine levels in pregnant women.

Circumcision is a common procedure in infants, children and young people around the world for cultural, religious or medical reasons. Since this is a painful procedure, it is performed under local anesthesia or general anesthesia. It is recommended to perform this procedure under local anesthesia if there is no risk. Although local anesthesia is used during the procedure, pain and anxiety levels of children may increase. Distraction methods are commonly used and effective methods to reduce pain and anxiety during painful procedures. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of tablet playing during circumcision on pain and anxiety in school age children.

Effects of Landscapes on the Brain

There is an established consensus between researchers that the contact with natural environments has beneficial influence on mental health and well-being of people exposed to them. The knowledge in this area is based mostly on the correlational analyses, but more research is needed to explore the causal relationships between the human and his environment. More specifically, in order to identify specific restorative mechanisms in response to the specific types and components of the designed landscapes, especially in the highly urbanized context. This study will attempt to find the psychophysiological responses in human brain to landscapes videos (in the lab), and real landscapes with different visual quality, carefully pre-selected and analysed in terms of landscape composition. In the study the rigorous experimental protocol will be administered in order to acquire qualitative and quantitative data both self-reported and measured by neuroscience tools, in order to demonstrate the causal effect of landscape exposure on the brain activity patterns and mood of healthy and depressed individuals.

Internet Transdiagnostic-CBT for Anxiety and Depression in Adolescents

This study represents the first research program to assess the efficacy of transdiagnostic cognitive behavior therapy (T-CBT) delivered via internet for anxiety and depression in adolescents. The primary aim of the study was to implement the program AMTE (Aprende a Manejar tus Emociones [Learn to Manage Your Emotions]), an internet delivered T-CBT protocol designed to target both anxiety and depression symptoms and disorders (major depression disorder, dysthymic disorder, panic disorder, agoraphobia, generalized anxiety disorder, and social anxiety disorder) in adolescents, and to establish its preliminary efficacy on anxiety and depressive symptomatology. A secondary objective is to demonstrate its potential effect regarding: (a) transdiagnostic measures associated with etiology of emotional disorders including negative affect, anxiety sensitivity, and emotional avoidance, and (b) positive factors including satisfaction with life and positive affect. It is expected that the T-CBT condition will be more effective than the waitlist (WL) control group on the primary (anxiety and depression) and secondary (transdiagnostic and positive factors) outcome measures.
