NCT ID: NCT06044753 Completed - Clinical trials for Preoperative Anxiety

Comparing the Effectiveness of Virtual Reality in Paediatric Patients

Start date: December 1, 2020
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

To the best of our knowledge, the investigators found only a study using VR in reducing preoperative anxiety in paediatric population. Ryu et al found that children who received preoperative VR tour of the operation theatre had perfect score in induction compliance checklist (ICC). With these encouraging data, the investigators decide to conduct a study to determine whether the use of cartoon video VR headset during induction of anaesthesia is able to reduce preoperative anxiety and increase compliance during inhalation induction in children undergoing surgery.

NCT ID: NCT06043271 Recruiting - Anxiety Disorders Clinical Trials

A Single Session Parenting Intervention for Children on a Outpatient Therapy Waitlist

Start date: September 1, 2023
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is the treatment of choice for youth anxiety. However, up to 80% of youth with anxiety disorders do not access the services they need. Child CBT clinics nationwide have extremely long waits, on the order of 10-12 months. This leads to a vicious cycle, as children waiting for care experience worsening symptoms and decreased motivation, so that by the time they access care, their needs are more intensive and the treatment lasts longer and it takes longer for new children to be able to be assigned. Recently, single-session interventions (SSIs) have been developed that enable children to access CBT skills. The proposed randomized trial will evaluate the effects of a brief, web-based, self-guided SSI designed to reduce parent accommodation of children's anxiety, a parenting behavior that has been shown to maintain and worsen child anxiety. The main aim of the study is to examine whether the SSI reduces parent accommodation. As a secondary aim, the investigators will explore whether the SSI reduces children's anxiety symptoms over the first 6 months of CBT. The investigators will recruit parents of children who are on the waitlist to receive outpatient CBT. Results may suggest a promising approach to intervene with parents and children waiting to receive therapy.

The Effectiveness of Warm Hand Bath in Improving Anxiety

Start date: December 2023
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

Patients undergoing surgery often experience anxiety before the procedure. The aim of this study is to investigate the effectiveness of warm water baths in reducing preoperative anxiety levels in middle-aged and elderly patients undergoing lower limb orthopedic surgery. This study utilizes a randomized controlled trial design and focuses on middle-aged and elderly patients undergoing lower limb orthopedic surgery in the orthopedic ward of a medical center in northern Taiwan. The patients are divided into an experimental group and a control group using block randomization. Patients in the experimental group receive a 10-minute warm water bath at 40°C on the evening before surgery as an intervention, while the control group receives standard care. Data are collected from both groups before and after the intervention, including personal information, the State-Trait Anxiety Inventory, Visual Analog Scale for pain assessment, and Visual Analog Scale for relaxation, as well as vital sign measurements. Statistical analysis of the data is conducted using SPSS version 18.0 software, employing mean values, standard deviations, percentages, independent t-tests, chi-square tests, paired-sample t-tests, and generalized estimating equations for data analysis.
