Study type: Observational

For the evaluation of the lower urinary tract after laparoscopic hysterectomy, routine standard saline cystoscopy and carbon dioxide cystoscopy will be compared.

NCT ID: NCT05753787 Active, not recruiting - Cataract Clinical Trials

Eye Surface Properties After Using Dexamethasone Drops With and Without Preservatives in Patients After Cataract Surgery

EyeSurface
Start date: January 1, 2022
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

The goal of this interventional, real world data study is to evaluate the impact of preservatives on the post-cataract ocular surface. The main question is to learn about an effect of preservatives on the eye surface. The study aims to answer some important questions: - if the usage of preservatives has an impact on the eye surface healing process after cataract surgery - if patient comfort and quality of life improve more or more rapidly with preservatives-free eye drops. Participants will be asked to undergo standard procedure of peri-cataract surgery care and in addition to survey about the ocular surface state. Researchers will compare group that takes preservatives-free dexamethasone 0.1% with standard dexamethasone 0.01% solution to see if post-surgery eye surface healing properties differ from both groups.

Effect of a Bundle of Non-pharmacological Interventions on the Stress Response to Surgery

SPACU-lab
Start date: May 1, 2023
Phase:
Study type: Observational

Rationale: Surgical trauma and post-surgical pain induce a physiological stress response that can be detrimental to the patient. Non-pharmacological interventions aimed at stress reduction are known to reduce pain scores and opioid consumption. The effect of these interventions on the surgical stress response are unknown. Objective: To assess the effect of a bundle of non-pharmacological interventions implemented in the post-anesthesia care unit on the total serum cortisol levels after intermediate and major surgery. Study design: This is a prospective before-after study. Study population: Patients scheduled for intermediate or major oncological surgery in a tertiary referral cancer center. Intervention: The implementation of a bundle of four non-pharmacological interventions aimed at stress reduction in the post-anesthesia care unit. The bundle consists of: access to music, aromatherapy, natural images on the walls and ceiling and communication techniques aimed at reduction of stress and pain. Main study parameters/endpoints: Serum cortisol levels on the first postoperative day.

Prophylactic Effects of Esketamine in Surgical Patients

Start date: February 1, 2024
Phase: Phase 4
Study type: Interventional

Evidences have showing that esketamine has anti-inflammatory and therapeutic effects on depression and cardiac surgery. The investigators' preliminary results suggest that combined prophylactic and therapeutic use of esketamine could decrease the plasma levels of pro-inflammatory cytokines after LPS-induced endotoxemia. The investigators also found that combined prophylactic and therapeutic use of esketamine could attenuate systemic inflammation and inflammatory multi-organ injury in mice after CLP-induced lethal sepsis. Surgical trauma could elicit a marked inflammatory response with increased expression of pro-inflammatory cytokines, as well as postoperative immunosuppression. However, it remains unclear whether combined prophylactic and therapeutic use of esketamine could improve postoperative immunosuppression and alleviates systemic inflammatory response. This project aims to study whether combined prophylactic and therapeutic use of esketamine could improve the decreased number of lymphocyte subsets and increased plasma pro-inflammatory cytokines.

NCT ID: NCT04873531 Completed - Thyroid Diseases Clinical Trials

Feasibility of Neostigmine for Intraoperative Neuromonitoring in Thyroid Surgery

Start date: May 10, 2021
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

For successful intraoperative neuromonitoring (IONM), adequate reversal of neuromuscular blocking agent is a prerequisite in thyroid surgery with . The aim of this study is to investigate the feasibility of neostigmine just after tracheal intubation on the IONM in thyroid surgery.

NCT ID: NCT04439552 Recruiting - Pain, Postoperative Clinical Trials

fMRI and IVCM Cornea Microscopy of CXL in Keratoconus

Start date: October 4, 2021
Phase:
Study type: Observational

Evaluation of neuroplasticity of pain pathways and corneal afferent nerve regeneration following corneal crosslinking (CXL) in keratoconus patients using fMRI and corneal In Vivo Confocal Microscopy (IVCM).

NCT ID: NCT04410640 Completed - Surgical Injury Clinical Trials

Surgical Planning With Patient-specific Pancreaticobiliary Disease With 3D Models

Start date: July 10, 2019
Phase:
Study type: Observational

Background: Three-dimensional (3D) printing has been increasingly used in medical applications with the creation of accurate patient-specific 3D printed models in medical imaging data. However, research on 3D printing in pancreaticobiliary disease is limited with lack of studies on validation of model accuracy. Methods: This is a where general surgery residents, are introduced to 5 distinct hepatopancreatobiliary disease scenarios to generate a perception and required to compare their perception level of these cases with computed tomography (CT), 3D images and 1:1 solid models that the pathology, diverse diagnosis and presurgery diagnosis stages can be investigated.

NCT ID: NCT04350697 Recruiting - Surgery Clinical Trials

Mini-invasive Approaches to Aortic Surgery

MSvsMT
Start date: January 1, 1999
Phase:
Study type: Observational

There are many different types of mini-invasive approaches to aortic surgery. Ministernotomy and anterior right minithoracotomy are the two main techniques applied for minimally invasive aortic valve replacement, but if one of them is superior in terms of patient outcomes it is not still clear. Therefore, the aim of this study is to compare the immediate and long-term outcomes of these two techniques.

NCT ID: NCT04182256 Completed - Clinical trials for Liver Transplant; Complications

Magnetic Spiderman for Preparation of Liver Donation

MSPLD
Start date: October 1, 2020
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

Due to many vascular branches on the supra-hepatic vena cava (SHVC) and infra-hepatic vena cava (IHVC), in the whole procedures of preparation of liver donation, preparation of hepatic vena cava (HVC) is the most key and troublesome step. Magnetic Spiderman (MS) is a novel surgical instrument, designed and created to solve the vital problems of preparation of liver donation's HVC. Therefore, the aim of this study is to evaluate the feasibility and security of MS when using it prepare the liver donation's HVC.

NCT ID: NCT04086199 Recruiting - Clinical trials for Back Pain Lower Back Chronic

Spinal Approach for Lumbar Active Discopathy

Start date: January 1, 2020
Phase:
Study type: Observational

The study aims to study the impact on different surgical approaches for lumbar active discopathy. This inflammatory disease of the disc and adjacent vertebral endplates can induce low back pain with inflammatory-like features. Lumbar fusion is proposed to the patient when conservative management is not enough. This fusion can be obtained by an anterior muscle sparring approach or by a posterior muscle decaying approach. The goal with this single center retrospective study is to identify the surgical approach that offers to the patient the better long term functional outcome. A phone call would allow us to ask patients a few questions: - Mcnab's criteria - Roland Morris Disability Questionnaire The patients medical file review would also allow us to identify: - the length of hospital stay for the discectomy (in days) - incidence of Failed Back Surgery Syndrome - incidence of redo surgeries - incidence of adjacent level diseases - incidence of dural tears and eventual complications (meningitis, orthostatic headaches,...) - incidence of iliac vessels injuries and eventual complications (thrombosis, need for revascularisation,...)
