Enhancing Transdiagnostic Mechanisms of Cognitive Dyscontrol (R33)

Start date: October 1, 2024
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

The proposed project aims to test the cognitive and neural effects of a cognitive training in a sample of individuals seeking treatment for anxiety, depression, or traumatic stress symptoms. Participants will be randomly assigned to one of two groups. Group 1 will receive a computer-based program that is designed as a cognitive training intervention and Group 2 will receive a similar computer-based exercise that researchers think will be less effective in training thinking skills (also known as a control or sham condition). Participants will be compared on cognitive performance and brain response during cognitive tasks from baseline to post-treatment.

NCT ID: NCT06249386 Recruiting - Clinical trials for Alcohol Use Disorder

Adapting and Piloting Behavioral Activation for Veterans With Alcohol Use Disorder and Posttraumatic Stress Disorder

Start date: May 30, 2024
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

The goal of this clinical trial is to compare an adaptation of Behavioral Activation, a behavioral intervention, to Relapse Prevention treatment, another behavioral intervention, in a sample of U.S. military veterans with co-occurring alcohol use disorder (AUD) and posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD). The primary aims of this study are to: 1. Adapt Behavioral Activation to treat veterans with AUD/PTSD, 2. Evaluate the feasibility, acceptability, and preliminary effects of Behavioral Activation for AUD/PTSD, and 3. Explore geospatial analysis as a new method for measuring AUD/PTSD recovery. Participants will complete self-report and interview measures immediately before and immediately after treatment. Participants will also be asked to participate in passive geospatial assessment for 14-day periods immediately before and immediately after treatment. Participants will be randomized to treatment condition, which involves 8 sessions of either Behavioral Activation or Relapse Prevention, delivered individually by a trained study therapist.

NCT ID: NCT06237699 Recruiting - Quality of Life Clinical Trials

Effects of a Digital Diary on the Psychological Well-being of Former ICU Patients.

DIPIC
Start date: May 1, 2023
Phase:
Study type: Observational [Patient Registry]

Previous research on the impact of a diary on mental symptoms of PICS, PICS-F, and quality of life in former ICU patients and their relatives has focused specifically on a paper diary. While there has been research on the experiences of former ICU patients, relatives, and ICU nurses regarding the use of a digital diary, it is not known whether this diary has an impact on the psychological well-being and quality of life of former ICU patients and their relatives. A successful implementation of [the digital diary] enables this research. The aim of this study is, therefore, to provide an initial impression of the health-related effects of a digital diary on former ICU patients and their relatives.

NCT ID: NCT06237426 Enrolling by invitation - Clinical trials for Post Traumatic Stress Disorder

An Evaluation of the Long-term Efficacy and Safety of Methylone for the Treatment of PTSD

IMPACT-EXT
Start date: March 6, 2024
Phase: Phase 2
Study type: Interventional

This is an extension study of participants who previously completed a Transcend-sponsored clinical trial with methylone as a treatment for PTSD (IMPACT-1 or IMPACT-2). Participants will be followed for up to 52 weeks. During the 52 week period, PTSD symptoms and safety will be assessed monthly. Participants' PTSD symptoms will be assessed at each observational visit and if criteria for Relapse has been met, participants may be eligible to receive a course of methylone treatment. After a course of methylone treatment, participants resume observational study visits until Week 52.

NCT ID: NCT06234969 Recruiting - Clinical trials for Posttraumatic Stress Disorder

A Mechanistic Trial of the Neurobiology of Extinction Learning and Intraparietal Sulcus Stimulation

Start date: April 4, 2024
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

This study will be the first of its kind to explore the impact of continuous theta burst stimulation (cTBS) to the intraparietal sulcus (IPS) on arousal symptoms among patients with posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD). The investigators will demonstrate that IPS cTBS results in significant reduction in arousal (measured by startle response) compared to sham cTBS, that IPS cTBS interacts with extinction training to further improve arousal, and that there is a dose/response effect of cTBS on arousal. The investigators will also demonstrate that IPS cTBS significantly improves retention of extinction learning, the experimental analogue of exposure therapy.

NCT ID: NCT06234371 Active, not recruiting - Depression Clinical Trials

Financial Incentives for Veteran Therapy Completion

Start date: January 2, 2024
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

Recovery Resource Council (RRC) is one of the largest and most comprehensive non-profit mental and behavioral healthcare providers in North Texas. Accredited by the Joint Commission in Behavioral Health and licensed by the State of Texas as an Outpatient Treatment Center, RRC strives to promote wellness and recovery through a variety of services and programming. An important component of RRC programming is providing free counseling services to hundreds of U.S. veterans annually. While RRC observes great success for veterans who complete counseling, attendance can be a major obstacle. Veterans who approach RRC for individual counseling services and consent to participate will be randomly assigned to the treatment or control group. The control group will receive counseling as usual. The treatment group will receive $500 gift card payments upon completing their 6th, 12th, and 18th counseling sessions, i.e., $1,500 in gift cards for completing all 18 sessions, the usual prescribed length of therapy. Our primary focus is to examine the impact of the financial incentives on therapy attendance and attrition. In addition, the investigators will estimate the impact on mental health using mental health inventories collected over the course of therapy sessions.

NCT ID: NCT06233968 Not yet recruiting - Clinical trials for Posttraumatic Stress Disorder

Using Data Science To Center Patient Perspectives in Mechanism Discovery

CPP
Start date: February 29, 2024
Phase:
Study type: Observational

Including patient perspectives when developing new therapy interventions is crucial because it can help to understand response heterogeneity and promote engagement. Yet, analyzing patient interview data is difficult and time-consuming. This study aims to explore the potential for natural language processing and deep learning to analyze patient interviews and identify potential ways in which therapy leads to psychological change. This study will recruit participants from an existing clinical service that offers a 16-week online group therapy model (and adjunct individual therapy sessions) called Program for Alleviating and Resolving Trauma and Stress (PARTS) based on a therapy called Internal Family Systems (IFS). The investigators will use a mixed methods approach, applying natural language processing and deep learning to develop models that identify potential mechanisms of change. These models will be based on patient perspectives of psychological change, as expressed in interviews, and be compared to models based on clinical measures.

NCT ID: NCT06230887 Not yet recruiting - Clinical trials for Moral Injury Syndrome

Implementation of Innovative Treatment for Moral Injury Syndrome: A Hybrid Type 2 Study

Start date: August 1, 2024
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

Moral Injury Syndrome (MIS) affects up to 35-60% of Veterans managing combat-related PTSD; it results from experiences that challenge deeply held values or spiritual beliefs. Symptoms of MIS may include hopelessness, helplessness, loss of spiritual beliefs, difficulty with forgiveness, loss of meaning or purpose, reduced trust in self or others, or intractable guilt, shame or anger. Veterans managing MIS have difficulty responding to mental health treatment, and are at increased risk for suicide ideation or attempts. To date evidence-based interventions for MIS are not widely available in VA. This study will implement an evidence-based intervention for MIS in four VA facilities, collect data on the effectiveness of the intervention, and develop an implementation toolkit. This data will inform national dissemination in collaboration with the Office of Mental Health and Suicide Prevention and the National Chaplain Service.
