Transcutaneous Auricular Vagus Nerve Stimulation in Upper Extremity Lymphedema

Start date: December 11, 2023
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

Lymphedema is an inflammatory disease characterized by abnormal accumulation of excess water, plasma proteins, as well as extravascular blood and parenchymal cells in the affected upper and lower arms, chest and/or trunk due to inadequate lymphatic carrying capacity, associated with high-severity, recurrent soft tissue infections that can lead to sepsis and even death. It is a disease. Although there is no definitive treatment for lymphedema disease, a Complex Decongestive Treatment approach, including manual lymph drainage, skin care, special exercises, compression and self-care, has been defined to slow the progression of the disease and prevent secondary complications. In addition, similar to vagus nerve activation with manual lymphatic drainage, parasympathetic nerve activation has been defined. system activation can be increased. The aim of our study is to examine the effect of transcutaneous auricular vagus nerve stimulation on quality of life, grip strength and dexterity in unilateral upper extremity lymphedema patients. It was planned as a randomized controlled experimental study. The population of the study will be lymphedema patients in Gaziosmanpaşa Physical Therapy Rehabilitation Training and Research Hospital, and the sample will be 27 volunteer patients who meet the inclusion and exclusion criteria. The study was planned as a single center (Gaziosmanpaşa Training and Research Hospital). Participants will be randomly divided into three groups. Subjects will be instructed to draw an envelope from a secret box. Each envelope will contain a yellow, red and blue card and they will be assigned to one of the 3 groups of the study accordingly. Only the Complex Decongestive Treatment (manual lymph drainage, skin care, special exercises, compression) approach will be applied to the first group, Complex Decongestive Treatment and sham transcutaneous vagus nerve stimulation to the second group, and transcutaneous vagus nerve stimulation in addition to Complex Decongestive Treatment to the third group. The third party who has access to the box containing the envelopes will not be involved in the study. The data collected from the patients will be entered into the SPSS 21.0 package program, a data set will be created and statistical analyzes will be performed.

Investigation of the Effect of Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilization Technique and Foam Roller Application in Individuals With Chronic Non-Specific Neck Pain.

Start date: October 1, 2021
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

Neck pain is in fourth place among the pathologies that result in the state of disability. Acute neck pain improves greatly within 2 months, while neck pain that persists for more than 3 months takes the form of chronic neck pain. Pain adversely affects people's activities of daily living. Treatment applications such as electrotherapy, hot and cold applications are applied for purposes such as reducing pain and muscle spasm and correcting functions. In addition to such treatment options, instrument-assisted soft tissue mobilization (IASTM) and foam roller therapy have been started to be applied in many disease groups in recent years and have attracted great attention. iASTM and Foam Roller is a technique that involves the use of tools in disorders of musculoskeletal pathology and to help heal soft tissues. The aim of this study is to investigate the effects of foam roller technique with instrument-assisted soft tissue mobilization technique in individuals of different ages with chronic non-specific neck pain. According to the data obtained, the techniques the investigators will use, together with physiotherapy programs, contribute to the treatment of individuals with chronic non-specific neck pain and to the literature.is expected to provide.

NCT ID: NCT05502497 Recruiting - Rehabilitation Clinical Trials

Investigation of the Effect of Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilization Technique on Fascia and Fat Tissue Thickness in Healthy Individuals.

Start date: April 1, 2021
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

Instrument-assisted soft tissue mobilization (IASTM) technique can be used for non-pathological conditions as it has been shown in previous literature to affect flexibility and normal range of motion. The use of instrument-assisted soft tissue mobilization technique has been claimed to be an effective treatment in increasing tissue temperature, reducing adhesion to connective tissue and increasing collagen adaptation and increasing flexibility and normal range of motion. The instrument-assisted soft tissue mobilization technique works on the facial connective tissue in the body. This connective tissue contains "sheaths of collagen, which form the cavities and muscle divisions that mainly cover the organs." In some studies, they stated that instrument-assisted soft tissue mobilization increased perfusion, while in some studies they stated that instrument-assisted soft tissue mobilization increased blood circulation. The frequency of ultrasonography (USG) examinations for the musculoskeletal system has increased over time with technological developments and USG has entered daily use in the evaluation of various pathological conditions belonging to this system thanks to its comparable results with MR examinations. The unique advantages of USG such as low cost, easy availability, relatively short examination time, and dynamic real-time comparison with the contralateral side have made it easier to use for musculoskeletal examinations. The aim of this study is to investigate the effect of instrument-assisted soft tissue mobilization technique on strength, flexibility, balance, fascia and adipose tissue thickness in healthy individuals.
