Filter by:The purpose of this study is to assess the feasibility and acceptability of a peer-based dyadic social support health coaching physical activity (PA) intervention in inactive South Asian Indian (SAI) and to explore preliminary effects of the intervention on intermediate outcomes: self-reported and objective moderate-to-vigorous physical activity (MVPA), social support, and self-efficacy .
The RESPONSE-2- peripheral arterial disease (PAD) program will be implemented to modify sedentary time in patients with PAD. It is an adapted version of the RESPONSE that aims to reduce sedentary behavior in individuals with diabetes. The RESPONSE-2-PAD is a multicomponent program involves an online educational component, sedentary reminders and health coaching sessions, which are designed to modify patients' sedentary behavior.
ASDactive is a theory-based behaviour change intervention aimed at improving the physical activity behaviours of autistic youth. The feasibility of the intervention will be tested through interviews with participants and stakeholders. "Proof of concept" will be tested through preliminary measures of physical activity measured before and after the intervention.
Physical inactivity is an increasing problem in the general population in society. However, in people with disabilities, inactivity is even more frequently reported. Physical activity on prescription (PAP) is a well-established method to enhance physical activity. The prescribed physical activity can be activities such as walking, cycling, swimming, or gardening, and should be performed over a longer period. In children with cerebral palsy, PAP has shown to be feasible to increase participation in physical activity and to reduce sedentary behaviour, and the habilitation services in the Region of Skåne have decided to offer PAP to all children and youth with disabilities. It is of great importance to study these interventions when applied on a broader group of patients than previously studied. The aim is to study the effects of an individualised and health-enhancing intervention in physically inactive people with autism, intellectual and physical disabilities. Also, the cost-effectiveness of PAP will be studied. 60 physically inactive children, aged 8- 17 years, and 20 adults, with autism, intellectual or physical disability will be included. The participants are recruited by their clinical physiotherapists, who also will be carrying out the PAP-intervention. The self-selected physical activity/activities may either be a physical activity organized by a club and/or an everyday activity such as walking a dog or riding a bicycle to school. Each participant fills in an activity logbook. Motivational interviewing will be used to support the participants. The Canadian Occupational Performance Measure can be used to identify what activities the participants are motivated to do, and to detect changes in the participants' perception of their performance of the activity. Quality of life will be monitored. Physical activity will be measured through the International Physical Activity Questionnaire (IPAQ) and a movement monitor (accelerometer). Study specific questionnaires will be filled in regarding costs and background information. Data on health care use of the participants will retrospectively be collected and studied using the health care database in Region Skåne. Data will be collected at 3 months prior to the intervention, just before the intervention starts, when the intervention is finished, and at 6, 12 and 24 months after the intervention. The study has been approved by the Swedish Ethical Review Authority.
This pilot study aims to examine the feasibility and acceptability of adding a cardiovascular health module to the existing Nurse Family Partnership (NFP) home visitation program delivered by trained nurses in the Northern Appalachian region of Central Pennsylvania.
Investigators will conduct a two-group randomized waitlist-control trial to assess the efficacy of the Wakaya: Rising Up for Choctaw Youth Health program on improving physical activity, reducing sedentary behaviors and improving healthful eating habits as well as delaying or reducing alcohol, tobacco and other drug use. Wakaya is an experiential, outdoor, nature-based program grounded in Choctaw values. It is a multi-level intervention that increases individual motivation and leadership skills to make healthy behavioral choices for behavior and exercise.
The goal of this randomized clinical trial is to determine the effect of the computer prompt to break sitting time in office workers. The main question is: What is the effect of the computer prompt "Stand Up for Your Health®" plus education on sitting time, musculoskeletal symptoms, cardiometabolic markers, and physical activity in office workers compared with only education? In addition, to determine the level of adherence to the intervention program by identifying barriers and facilitators referred by the participants. The participants will be divided into two groups, the experimental and the control group. The participants in the experimental group will use the computer prompt on their desktop and receive information about sedentary behaviour, and the control group will receive only information. All participants will wear accelerometers for one week. The musculoskeletal symptoms and cardiometabolic markers will be measured at baseline, 3rd and 6th month.
Older adults may feel at risk for falling, but do not have a physical risk of falling. On the other hand, some older adults may not feel at risk for falling, but do have a physical risk of falling. This study is being done to test a preventative, in-home exercise program (called PEER) which may allow older adults to improve balance, align the perceived risk for falling with the physical risk for falling, and prevent falls. Participants will be asked to participate in this study for approximately 9 months. This study has three specific aims: 1. Examine differences in balance, fall risk, and physical activity after program completion, follow-up 3 months and 6 months between older adults (OAs) in the Physio-fEedback Exercise pRogram (PEER) intervention and OAs in attention control (AC) condition. 2. Explore differences in exercise adherence and the proportion of shifting in fall risk appraisal and negative self-perception on aging after program completion, follow-up 3 months and 6 months between OAs in the PEER intervention and OAs in AC condition. 3. Explore participants' experiences with the PEER intervention and potential barriers to access and adoption of the technology-based PEER intervention to inform future research. Participants will be asked to participate in this study for approximately 9 months. This includes the baseline assessment, 8 weeks of PEER activities or attention control activities, and follow-up assessments at 3 months and 6 months. After the informed consent and completion of the baseline assessments, participants will be randomized to either the PEER intervention or the attention control (AC) group. Participants in the PEER intervention group will be asked to participate in group exercises (60 minutes per week for 8 weeks) and home-based exercises (twice a week for 8 weeks) that focus on balance, strength training with a peer coach. Participants in the AC group will receive an information pamphlet developed by the CDC about falls called Simple Exercises for Improving Balance and Preventing Falls in Older Adults. Topics include information on fall risks, how to prevent falls, how to check for safety, postural hypotension, and chair rise exercises. The control group will be encouraged to discuss fall prevention with a primary care provider and continue normal activities.
African American adults sleep less and obtain worse quality sleep compared to the national average, and emerging evidence links inadequate sleep with greater morbidity and mortality from chronic diseases such as diabetes, obesity, and cancer. To address this public health concern, the proposed research seeks to use a multi-method approach to adapt a sleep intervention for African American adults with overweight/obesity not meeting national sleep duration or physical activity recommendations. The overall goal of the project is to reduce cancer and obesity-related health disparities among African Americans.
The purpose of this study is to develop and test an 8-week sedentary behavior reduction intervention ("Sit Less" program) for patients with type 2 diabetes. The program aims to reduce and break sitting times among this population using an objective activity monitor and mHealth. The investigators will test the program to help diabetes patients break up sitting time, reduce daily sitting time, and move more. The investigators will also study preliminary effects of the SB reduction intervention on light physical activity, cardiometabolic markers and patient-centered outcomes, and whether diabetes patients like the program and can follow it.
