Inspiratory Muscle Training(IMT) increases the strength and endurance of the inspiratory muscles, exercise capacity, quality of life and reduces the perception of dyspnea. It has been reported in the literature that it also has an effect on mechanical ventilated patients in the intensive care unit. In patients on mechanical ventilation, IMT is applied with modification of trigger sensitivity and with an external device. Acceptability and Feasibility of a New Postural Management Night-time Intervention to Improve Respiratory Health of Children With Complex Neuro-disability

This research concerns children with complex neuro-disability. Damage to the developing brain leads to lifelong disturbances in motor control, seizures, cognition, communication, eating and drinking, and behaviour. Children with complex neuro-disability are dependent upon others to move and position them. Children commonly experience chronic lung disease, leading to frequent hospitalisation, medical interventions and premature death. Respiratory illness may be triggered by "aspiration", i.e. when saliva, food, liquid or stomach contents enter the lungs. Aspiration risks increase at night-time when supervision is limited and children are positioned on their backs. Some children experience repeated breathing complications requiring prolonged hospital stays including respiratory support in intensive care. Consultant Respiratory Paediatrician Akshat Kapur and Physiotherapist Hilda Perry developed a new night-time intervention to improve respiratory health of children with complex neuro-disability. Dr Kapur and his team have found that this intervention can help reduce respiratory illness and time spent in hospital for some children. This is an acceptability and feasibility study which means the investigators want to find out if this new intervention is something that children with complex neuro-disability and their families are happy (i.e. it is acceptable) and able (i.e. it is feasible) to do. If so, a larger future research study can be designed to find out if the intervention works to improve the respiratory health of children with complex neuro-disability.

This study aimed to assess if a multidimensional individually tailored intervention, including Norwegian Psychomotor Physiotherapy (NPMP), elements of cognitive behavioural therapy and a rehabilitation plan, helped reduce inspiratory distress and dysfunctional breathing in adolescent athletes with EILO. A mixed methods design, which combined qualitative and quantitative research, was used. Data, including subjective experiences of respiratory distress, findings from NPMP body examinations and objective measurements of lung function and aerobic capacity were gathered before and after a five month intervention involving 18 participants.

Respiratory Exercise to Copd With Virtual Reality Glasses on Dyspnea, Anxiety and Qualıty of Life

It was planned to examine the effects of breathing exercises applied with virtual reality glasses on dyspnea, anxiety and quality of life in COPD patients. The study was planned to be conducted in a single-blind pre-test post-test parallel group randomized controlled experimental design. Hypotheses created for the research; H0a: There is no difference between the dyspnea scores of the experimental group and the control group in the post-test in COPD patients. H0b: There is no difference between the anxiety scores of the experimental group and the control group in the post-test in COPD patients. H0c: There is no difference between the quality of life scores of the experimental group and the control group in the post-test in COPD patients. H1a: There is a difference between the dyspnea scores of the experimental group and the control group in the post-test in COPD patients. H1b: There is a difference between the anxiety scores of the experimental group and the control group in the post-test in COPD patients. H1c: There is a difference in quality of life scores between the experimental group and the control group in the post-test in COPD patients. It is planned to apply breathing exercise through virtual reality glasses for 8 weeks to the experimental group. It is planned that the exercises will be done three times a week in a total of 24 sessions. No intervention will be applied to the control group. It is planned to collect the research data in the pre-test, four weeks after the pre-assessment, and in the post-test (in the eighth week of the study). Inclusion criteria for the study; Being over 18 years old, being GOLD Stage II-III COPD (FEV1/FVC<70%, FEV1<80%), being >24 as a result of the mini mental state assessment test, residing in the city center where the research was conducted. Exclusion criteria; exacerbation of COPD for the last four weeks, pneumonia, use of psychiatric medication.

Parkinson's patients usually have a significant decrease in respiratory muscle strength and respiratory function, which may increase in proportion to the severity of the disease. In addition, peripheral muscles may become dysfunctional by the rigidity caused by the disease. This reduces exercise capacity and may lead to a decrease in oxygen consumption. Respiratory muscle training has increased respiratory muscle strength in people with Parkinson's Disease (PD). However, its effectiveness on other functional outcomes has not been determined and studied.

Diaphragmatic Speckle Tracking During Spontaneous Breathing Trial

Currently, measurement of transdiaphragmatic pressure (Pdi) using oesophageal and gastric balloons is the gold standard for the assessment of diaphragmatic effort. This technique is relatively invasive and its interpretation may be complex. The diaphragmatic longitudinal strain (LSdi) and strain rate (LSRdi) might provide additional information in the assessment of diaphragmatic effort and movement during SBT, allowing early detection of diaphragmatic dysfunction. Patients will be monitored during a 30-120 minutes SBT consisting of no assistance on the ventilator using CPAP with a pressure level of 0 cmH2O. Parameters to evaluate diaphragm function will include diaphragmatic strain (LSdi and LSRdi), diaphragmatic thickening fraction (TFdi), and airway occlusion pressure (ΔP0.1 and ΔPocc). These parameters will be measured immediately before ('baseline') the SBT, as well as 2 minutes ('early' assessment), 15 ('intermediate' assessment) and 30 minutes ('late' assessment) after the beginning of the SBT.
