Study to Compare the Pharmacokinetics and Pharmacodynamics of ASA Powder for Oral Inhalation With Non-enteric-coated Chewable Aspirin in Adult Subjects With Obstructive or Restrictive Pulmonary Function

The goal of this clinical trial is to compare the pharmacokinetics (PK) pharmacodynamics (PD), safety and tolerability of acetylsalicylic acid powder for oral inhalation (I-ASA) with non-enteric-coated chewable aspirin (C-ASA) in adult subjects with obstructive or restrictive pulmonary function. In the first treatment period, subjects will be randomized to receive either a single dose (100 mg) of I-ASA powder via a Dry Powder Inhaler (DPI) OR a single dose (162 mg) of C-ASA tablets. After a washout period, subjects will be crossed over to receive the other treatment in the second treatment period. All subjects will receive both treatments during the study. Each single dose treatment will be followed by up to 24 hours of serial post-dose PK, PD, and safety/tolerability assessments.

Equivalence Test of Two Different Inspiratory Muscle Training Protocols: a Randomised Controlled Trial

The objective of this study is to investigate if six weeks of high intensity Inspiratory Muscle Training (IMT) performed two times a week has the same effect as five times a week in hospitalized patients with first time Spinal Cord Injury (SCI). Design/ methods: A Randomised controlled trial (RCT) including 60 patients, with reduced Maximal Inspiration Pressure (MIP) will be recruited at two specialized SCI centers in Denmark. Primary outcome is MIP after six weeks of training. Secondary outcome will be reported on Rating Perceived Exertion (RPE), voice performance, Quality Of Life (QOL)and sleep quality. Furthermore, long term follow-up at 12 months after start of intervention will also be performed.

Feasibility of Music Therapy for Spontaneous Breathing Trials

In this study, the investigators will study music therapy for patients during breathing trials, a procedure performed in intensive care units. Participants will be assigned either to standard medical care or standard medical care plus music therapy. Participants have a 50/50 chance (like flipping a coin) of being in either group. In the music therapy group, a board-certified music therapist will sing softly with guitar accompaniment to provide music during the breathing trial. The music is in addition to the usual treatment provided by hospital staff. Participants in the standard medical care group will receive the usual medical care given by hospital staff members. Information will be collected from participant's charts and by observation of vital signs during the breathing trial.

In this study, patients who are ready for extubation and indicated for high-flow nasal cannula therapy after extubation will be enrolled, the investigators would measure the patient peak tidal inspiratory flow (PTIF) pre and post extubation to explore the correlation between the two PTIFs. Moreover, different HFNC flows would be applied, to explore the patient response in terms of oxygenation and lung aeration to different flow ratios that matched and are above post-extubation PTIF.

Efficacy and Safety of Inhaled AZD1402 Administered for Four Weeks in Adults With Asthma on Medium-to-High Dose Inhaled Corticosteroids

This is a randomised, placebo-controlled, double-blinded, multi-centre, 2-part study to assess the efficacy and safety of inhaled AZD1402. Part 1 will be performed in a Lead-in Cohort for each dose level to evaluate the safety and pharmacokinetics (PK) in a population with asthma controlled on medium dose inhaled corticosteroids (ICS)-long acting beta agonists (LABA) before progressing to dosing in adults with asthma who are uncontrolled on medium-to-high dose ICS-LABA in Part 2. The study will recruit participants receiving treatment with medium dose ICS with LABA for Part 1 and participants receiving treatment with medium-to-high dose ICS with LABA for Part 2 (separate inhalers or combination product). Part 2 will be initiated following evaluation of safety and PK at the relevant dose level in Part 1a. The entire study period for each participant in both Parts 1 and 2, is approximately 3.5 months; a 2-week Screening Period, a 4 week Run-in Period, 4 weeks of Treatment Period, and 4 weeks of Follow-Up Period.

Gastric Emptying Following an Oral Carbohydrate Load in Women Admitted for Elective Cesarean Delivery

Because of the risk of pulmonary aspiration, patients are asked to comply with the fasting guidelines when they are scheduled for an elective cesarean section. This fasting can result in increased insulin resistance, and that this can delay patient recovery from surgery. Giving a patient a carbohydrate-rich beverage before surgery has been shown to reduce the post-operative insulin resistance and reduce the length of stay in the hospital. In order to safely provide pregnant women with a carbohydrate-rich drink when admitted to the hospital in preparation for an elective cesarean delivery, the investigators must ensure that their stomach has emptied by the time they go to the operating room. The objective is to investigate whether women admitted to the hospital, having complied with the fasting guidelines, will have an empty stomach 2 hours after being offered 400 ml of a beverage containing 50g of carbohydrate. This can easily be done with the use of an ultrasound exam of the stomach. The hypothesis is that patients will have an empty stomach 2 hours after drinking 400 ml of a carbohydrate-rich beverage.
