Filter by:Understanding long-term complications after intensive care is important to be able to offer prophylactic and therapeutic measures to post-intensive care unit (ICU) patients. Since patients in the ICU experience life threatening conditions, severe psychological and physical stress, we hypothesized that patients after ICU have an increased risk of mental illnesses specifically anxiety disorders, depression and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Moreover, we hypothesized that the prevalence and severity of mental illnesses are related to the extent of intensive care. Our endpoints are the prevalence of anxiety disorders, depression one year after ICU-care and if the extent of intensive care an independent predictor of psychiatric illness one year after ICU admission. We will assess Swedish Intensive Care registry data for all adult ICU patients admitted between 2010-2015 and assess ICD-10 codes for anxiety disorders, depression and PTSD one year after ICU admission.
The COVID-19 pandemic represents the most serious global health threat since the Spanish influenza, with repercussions on physical and mental health. The balance between physical and mental state is essential when establishing treatment for a critically ill patient and must be taken into account by health professionals. Therefore, the investigators hypothesize that there is an association between the severity of the clinical picture of COVID-19 and psychiatric morbidity. Objective. Associate the severity of the clinical picture of COVID-19 with psychiatric morbidity. Material and method. Hospitalized participants in the COVID respiratory area at the General Hospital of the Zone will be included. # 51 of Gómez Palacio, Dgo. in the period from October 1, 2021 to March 31, 2022. This is an epidemiological, observational, prospective, longitudinal, analytical study. Sociodemographic, clinical and psychiatric evaluation data will be obtained using GMHAT / PC. A statistical analysis will be carried out using descriptive statistics (frequencies, measures of central tendency and dispersion) and analytical, to evaluate the association (Chi2) and to evaluate the effect of the intervening variables (binary logistic regression and multivariate regression). The data will be analyzed in the SPSS version 21 program.
Background: The operating room (OR) environment presents specific conditions that put stress on work dynamics. Disruptive behavior (DB) among members of the health team is recognized to affect work dynamics and patient outcomes. The objective was to explore the perceptions of different members of the health team, including surgeons, about the occurrence of DB and the work dynamics in the OR. Study design: Qualitative exploratory study, based on semi structured individual interviews. Twenty participants were sampled until data saturation, including surgeons, anesthetists, nurses among other. Data extraction from verbatim transcriptions was performed by investigators via qualitative analysis software, using grounded theory framework.
In order to support the development of preschool children, joint attention training with activities incorporated in their natural routines can support the achievement of occupational therapy goals. This study explores the adjunctive benefit of a joint attention-based occupational therapy program offered in addition to the usual special education program (USEP) compared to USEP alone. The present study was designed as a randomized controlled study, including pre-post testing. The current study is intended to investigate the effectiveness of the Social-Emotional Prevention Program enhanced version (SEP+) for increasing preschoolers' social-emotional competencies and reducing their risk for behavior problems. Hypotheses for the current study are put forward for child- and parent-related outcomes. First, for the SEP+ effects for child-related outcomes, the investigators expect that: 1) intervention group children will be rated significantly higher on measures of social-emotional competencies (social skills and positive emotion regulation strategies (ER)) compared to children from the wait-list control group (primary outcomes); and 2) children assigned to the intervention will be rated significantly lower on externalizing, as well as internalizing problems (primary outcomes). In addition, for parent-related outcomes the hypotheses are: 1) intervention group parents will report significantly more positive parenting practices, and coparenting support, as well as significantly fewer negative parenting practices, coparenting undermining, and parenting stress compared to control group parents (secondary outcomes); and 2) intervention group parents will report significantly more positive coping strategies with children's negative emotions and adaptive ER strategies, as well as fewer negative coping strategies with children's negative emotions and less maladaptive ER strategies in comparison with control group parents (secondary outcomes). Additionally, the investigators aim to test potential intervention mechanisms. First, in the case of child-related outcomes, it is expected that children's use of adaptive ER strategies will mediate the intervention's effect on externalizing/internalizing problems; in a similar vein, it is hypothesized that improved social skills will mediate the intervention's effect on children's externalizing/internalizing problems. Furthermore, moderator effects of gender on adaptive emotion regulation strategies and externalizing problems will be tested. For the parenting intervention, it is expected that program's effect on positive parenting practices and stress will be mediated by the use of positive coping strategies, parental ER and coparenting support. Also, coparenting undermining and parental reported adverse events are hypothesized to moderate the intervention's effectiveness on parenting practices, parental stress, and parent ER/coping.
This study is a two-arm parallel group randomized double-blind placebo-controlled trial with the aim of Investigating pyridoxine effect on behavioral side effects of levetiracetam in adult patients with epilepsy.
The primary objective of the study is to evaluate the feasibility of eliciting continuous narrative speech in different neurodegenerative and psychiatric indications, using remote, self-administered speech tasks, as measured by the average length of speech elicitation for each speech task during the first week of self-assessment. Secondary objectives include (1) evaluating the reliability of speech tasks in the remote self-administered setting, as measured by the intra- and inter-subject variance; (2) accessing the adherence of speech tasks in this setting, as measured by the subject average fraction of days during the first week, where at least one task response is submitted; (3) evaluating the feasibility of using speech tasks in the setting of a telemedicine videoconference, as measured by the average length of speech elicited in each group; (4) evaluate whether a set of acoustic and linguistic patterns can detect each indication, compare to either a control group or all other indications, as measured by the area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUC), sensitivity, specificity and Cohen's kappa of the relevant binary classifier; (5) evaluating how the performance of such algorithms can be impacted by speaker and environment covariates, as measured by the Kendall rank correlation coefficient of the AUC of each classifier and each of age group, gender and speech-to-reverberation modulation energy ratio.
