NCT ID: NCT00097110 Completed - Pregnancy Clinical Trials

RCT of Antioxidant Therapy to Prevent Preeclampsia in Brazil

Start date: July 2003
Phase: Phase 3
Study type: Interventional

The perinatal morbidity and mortality rates for Brazil are five to ten-fold higher than those reported for upper income countries. This study tests the likelihood that the joint administration of antioxidants vitamin C (1000 mg) and vitamin E (400 IU) will reduce the incidence of preeclampsia among chronically hypertensive pregnant patients and patients with a past history of preeclampsia/eclampsia.

NCT ID: NCT00086177 Completed - Pregnancy Clinical Trials

Vaginal Progesterone to Reduce the Risk of Another Preterm Birth

Start date: April 2004
Phase: Phase 3
Study type: Interventional

This research study is being conducted at over 12 pregnancy research centers in the US. The study will compare an investigational treatment with a placebo (a treatment without medication). Neither the investigators nor the patients in the trial will know which treatment has been assigned. All study medications will be given vaginally once a day. Treatment will begin before pregnancy week 23 and will continue until the end of pregnancy week 36.

NCT ID: NCT00070850 Completed - Pregnancy Clinical Trials

Prenatal Screening For Smith-Lemli-Opitz Syndrome

Start date: April 2001
Phase: Phase 2
Study type: Observational

Smith-Lemli-Opitz Syndrome (SLOS) is a genetic condition that causes mental retardation and other birth defects. This study will evaluate a new prenatal screening test for SLOS.

NCT ID: NCT00070746 Completed - Pregnancy Clinical Trials

Perinatal Infections in Pakistan

Start date: June 2003

NCT ID: NCT00070720 Completed - Pregnancy Clinical Trials

Improving Perinatal Care in Latin America

Start date: September 2003
Phase: Phase 4
Study type: Interventional

Many obstetrical interventions used in Latin America, as in other parts of the world, have been shown to be ineffective or harmful, while effective interventions remain underutilized. This study will develop and evaluate an intervention intended to implement two evidence-based practices among birth attendants in Latin America, the selective use of episiotomies and active management of the third stage of labor.

NCT ID: NCT00068861 Completed - Infertility Clinical Trials

Treatment of Infertility in Women With Polycystic Ovary Syndrome

Start date: November 2002
Phase: Phase 3
Study type: Interventional

Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) is a common endocrine disorder affecting up to 10% of women. The primary symptoms of PCOS are menstrual irregularities, increased body and facial hair, acne, and infertility. This study will test a combination of medications in women with PCOS to determine which works best to overcome infertility.

NCT ID: NCT00068848 Completed - Pregnancy Clinical Trials

Quick Start Approach to Birth Control Pills

Start date: February 2003
Phase: Phase 4
Study type: Interventional

Women who choose to take birth control pills are currently instructed to begin taking the pills at the end of a menstrual cycle. This creates a window of time between when the woman is given the pills and when she begins taking them. Some women fail to begin taking the pills, placing them at increased risk of pregnancy. This study will evaluate a new approach to beginning birth control pills. Women will take the first pill in the doctor’s office rather than waiting until the next menstrual cycle.

NCT ID: NCT00067522 Unknown status - HIV Infections Clinical Trials

Preventing Unplanned Pregnancies in HIV Infected Zambian Couples

Start date: January 2002
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

Prevention of unplanned pregnancies among HIV infected couples decreases the rate of maternal-child virus transmission and the number of children orphaned when parents die of AIDS. This study will evaluate two programs for reducing the number of unplanned pregnancies among HIV infected couples in Zambia.

NCT ID: NCT00067509 Completed - Pregnancy Clinical Trials

Emergency Contraception (ECP): Reducing Unintended Pregnancies

Start date: June 2001
Phase: Phase 4
Study type: Interventional

Emergency contraception is a method of birth control that can be used up to three days after sexual intercourse. Emergency contraceptive pills (ECPs) can be given to a woman before she needs them (advance provision) or when she needs them (emergency provision). This study will compare these two methods of providing ECPs.

NCT ID: NCT00066976 Completed - Pregnancy Clinical Trials

Studying Fetal Breathing Patterns

Start date: August 5, 2003
Phase: N/A
Study type: Observational

Some babies have difficulty breathing, sucking, and swallowing at birth. The purpose of this study is to determine (before birth) the variables that will predict whether a newborn will experience these problems. Study participants will be pregnant women with a single fetus who are 18 years or older and who are scheduled to receive a standard prenatal ultrasound. Researchers will use the ultrasound to observe fetal motions associated with breathing, sucking, and swallowing on digital videotape. They will then review these tapes and take measurements that will help them document how breathing and swallowing develop.
