Darbepoetin Alfa Compared With Epoetin Alfa in Treating Anemia in Patients Receiving Chemotherapy for Cancer

Start date: August 2003
Phase: Phase 3
Study type: Interventional

RATIONALE: Darbepoetin alfa and epoetin alfa may stimulate red blood cell production and treat anemia in patients who are receiving chemotherapy. It is not yet known whether darbepoetin alfa is more effective than epoetin alfa in treating patients with anemia. PURPOSE: Randomized phase III trial to compare the effectiveness of darbepoetin alfa with that of epoetin alfa in treating anemia in patients who are receiving chemotherapy for cancer.

Infrared Coagulation in Preventing Anal Cancer in Patients With HIV Who Have Anal Neoplasia

Start date: September 2003
Phase: Phase 1
Study type: Interventional

RATIONALE: Infrared coagulation may be effective in preventing the development of anal cancer in patients who have anal neoplasia. PURPOSE: Pilot study to evaluate the effectiveness of infrared coagulation in preventing anal cancer in HIV-positive patients who have high-grade anal neoplasia.

NCT ID: NCT00064194 Completed - Prostate Cancer Clinical Trials

Vitamin E, Selenium, and Soy Protein in Preventing Cancer in Patients With High-Grade Prostate Neoplasia

Start date: November 28, 2001
Phase: Phase 3
Study type: Interventional

RATIONALE: Chemoprevention therapy is the use of certain substances to try to prevent the development or recurrence of cancer. Vitamin E, selenium, and soy protein may be effective in preventing the development of prostate cancer. PURPOSE: Randomized phase III trial to study the effectiveness of combining vitamin E, selenium, and soy protein in preventing prostate cancer in patients who have high-grade prostate neoplasia.

NCT ID: NCT00062231 Terminated - Lymphoma Clinical Trials

Moxifloxacin Compared With Ciprofloxacin/Amoxicillin in Treating Fever and Neutropenia in Patients With Cancer

Start date: April 2002
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

RATIONALE: Antibiotics such as amoxicillin, ciprofloxacin, and moxifloxacin may be effective in preventing or controlling fever and neutropenia in patients with cancer. It is not yet known whether moxifloxacin alone is more effective than amoxicillin combined with ciprofloxacin in treating neutropenia and fever. PURPOSE: This randomized clinical trial is studying how well moxifloxacin works and compares it to ciprofloxacin together with amoxicillin in treating neutropenia and fever in patients with cancer.

NCT ID: NCT00061997 Completed - Lung Cancer Clinical Trials

Inositol in Preventing Lung Cancer in Patients With Bronchial Epithelial Dysplasia Who Are Current or Former Smokers

Start date: May 2003
Phase: Phase 1
Study type: Interventional

RATIONALE: Chemoprevention therapy is the use of certain drugs to try to prevent the development or recurrence of cancer. Inositol may be effective in preventing the development of lung cancer in patients with bronchial epithelial dysplasia. PURPOSE: This phase I trial is studying the side effects and best dose of inositol in preventing lung cancer in current or former smokers with bronchial epithelial dysplasia.

Fludeoxyglucose F 18 Positron Emission Tomography and Magnetic Resonance Perfusion Imaging in Patients With Neurofibromatosis 1 and Plexiform Neurofibroma

Start date: April 2002
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

RATIONALE: New imaging procedures such as fludeoxyglucose F 18 positron emission tomography (FDG-PET) and magnetic resonance (MR) perfusion imaging may improve the ability to detect disease progression, help doctors predict a patient's response to treatment, and help plan the most effective treatment. PURPOSE: This diagnostic trial is studying how well FDG-PET and MR perfusion imaging work in finding disease progression and determining response to treatment in patients with neurofibromatosis 1 and plexiform neurofibroma.
