View clinical trials related to Precancerous Conditions.
Filter by:This phase I trial tests whether metformin works in reducing the annual transformation (development of invasive cancer) of oral precancerous lesions into cancerous lesions. Metformin is a drug approved for the treatment of diabetes, but studies have shown that it may have some anticancer properties. Giving metformin may help prevent or slow the development of oral cancer from precancerous lesions.
The goal of this proposal is to determine whether a hand-held confocal microscopy probe may perform better than standard methods in detecting cancer or pre-cancerous abnormalities of the cervix. The confocal probe will provide invivo histopathology-like images of cell morphology and three-dimensional tissue architecture non-invasively in real time.
This randomized, intra-patient comparative study is designed to investigate the combination regimen of 5-fluorouracil cream (5FU) and Photodynamic Therapy (PDT), versus PDT alone, for its ability to generate significantly elevated levels of the target photosensitizer, protoporphyrin IX (PpIX), in lesions of actinic keratoses (AKs) and to more effectively treat and prevent recurrence of AKs. The target population comprises patients with solid organ transplants (renal, hepatic), as well as normal (immunocompetent) subjects to control for possible influences of immunosuppression.
This phase I trial studies the side effects and best dose of erlotinib hydrochloride in preventing cancer in patients with precancerous lesions of the lung. Erlotinib hydrochloride may stop the growth of tumor cells by blocking some of the enzymes needed for cell growth.
RATIONALE: Rosuvastatin may stop the growth of tumor cells by blocking some of the enzymes needed for cell growth. Giving rosuvastatin after surgery may kill any tumor cells that remain after surgery. It may also keep polyps from forming or colon cancer from coming back. It is not yet known whether rosuvastatin is more effective than a placebo in treating colon cancer that was removed by surgery. PURPOSE: This randomized phase III trial is studying rosuvastatin to see how well it works compared with placebo in treating patients with stage I or stage II colon cancer that was removed by surgery.
RATIONALE: Green tea extract contains ingredients that may prevent or slow the growth of monoclonal gammopathy of undetermined significance and/or smoldering multiple myeloma. PURPOSE: This phase II trial is studying how well green tea extract works in treating patients with monoclonal gammopathy of undetermined significance and/or smoldering multiple myeloma.
RATIONALE: Studying blood samples from cancer patients undergoing pain treatment in the laboratory may help doctors learn more about how pain drugs work in the body. It may also help doctors predict how patients will respond to treatment. PURPOSE: This research study is looking at fentanyl in patients with cancer.
RATIONALE: Chemoprevention is the use of certain drugs to keep cancer from forming. The use of vitamin D may keep colorectal cancer from forming in patients with colon polyps. PURPOSE: This randomized phase I trial is studying a vitamin D supplement to see how well it works compared with a placebo in preventing colorectal cancer in African Americans with colon polyps.
RATIONALE: Human T-cell lymphotropic virus type 1 (HTLV-1) can cause cancer. Zidovudine is an antiviral drug that acts against the human T-cell lymphotropic virus type 1. Giving zidovudine, interferon alfa-2b, and PEG-interferon alfa-2b together may stimulate the immune system and slow down or keep the cancer cell from growing. PURPOSE: This clinical trial is studying how well giving zidovudine together with interferon alfa-2b and PEG-interferon alfa-2b works in treating patients with human T-cell lymphotropic virus type 1-associated adult T-cell leukemia/lymphoma.
RATIONALE: Ground flaxseed may prevent breast cancer in premenopausal women at increased risk of developing primary breast cancer. PURPOSE: This randomized clinical trial is studying how well flaxseed works in preventing breast cancer in premenopausal women at risk of breast cancer.
