Evaluation of the Effects of Silk and Polyester Suture on Postoperative Complications

Some undesirable complications such as pain, swelling, trismus, paresthesia, hematoma, infection and, albeit rare, fractures may occur after lower impacted wisdom tooth surgery. More effective wound closure methods with fewer complications have positive effects on postoperative recovery. Suturing is the most commonly used wound closure technique after lower impacted wisdom tooth surgery. Suturing, which is the last step of the operation, contributes to wound healing in order to reposition and stabilize the tissue components and to control bleeding. In our study, it was aimed to evaluate the efficacy of silk and polyester sutures used in wound closure techniques, which are frequently used in lower impacted wisdom teeth surgery.

The Effect of Deep Breathing Exercise and 4-7-8 Breathing Techniques on Anxiety and Quality of Life

Aim: This study aims to determine the effects of the deep breathing exercise and the 4-7-8 breathing technique applied to patients after bariatric surgery on their anxiety and quality of life. Materials and Methods: The study was conducted between January and June 2022 at Ankara Lokman Hekim Akay Hospital Endocrinology and Metabolic Diseases Clinic. The research was carried out using the pre-test post-test randomized controlled experimental research design with a control group. A total of 90 patients (30 patients in the deep breathing group, 30 patients in the 4-7-8 breathing group, and 30 patients in the control group) who met the research inclusion criteria were included in the study. While routine care was applied to the control group, 1 group was given deep breathing training, and the other group was given 4-7-8 breathing training. Personal Information Form, the Obesity-Specific Quality of Life Questionnaire, Status, and the State-Trait Anxiety Inventory were used for data collection. In the evaluation of the data, number, percentage, mean, standard deviation, Kolmogorov Smirnov test, chi- square, dependent samples t-test, ANOVA, Tukey's test, Pearson Correlation analysis, and Cronbach's alpha Reliability Coefficient were used.

Association Between New Effort-independent Cardiopulmonary Exercise Test Variables and Postoperative Complications After Elective Colorectal Surgery

A cardiopulmonary exercise test (CPET) is increasingly used for preoperative risk assessment. Oxygen uptake (VO2) at peak exercise (VO2peak) and VO2 at the ventilatory anaerobic threshold (VO2VAT) are the most commonly used preoperative CPET variables that are associated with postoperative outcomes following colorectal cancer surgery. The aim of this study is to investigate the association between two relatively new preoperative submaximal and effort-independent CPET variables, the cardiopulmonary optimal point (COP) and the Oxyen uptake efficiency plateau (OUEP) and postoperative outcomes in colorectal cancer surgery. In additiion, the association between the oxygen uptake at the COP en OUEP and postoperative outcomes wil be explored.
