This also is an immense public health concern since there are currently 18 million diabetics in the United States and 220 million worldwide.
This study was designed to evaluate the safety and efficacy of Cesamet™ in controlling pain in subjects experiencing pain due to chemotherapy-induced neuropathic pain in patients with cancer.
RATIONALE: Glutamic acid may help lessen or prevent nerve damage caused by vincristine. It is not yet known whether glutamic acid is more effective than a placebo in preventing nerve damage in patients receiving vincristine for Wilms' tumor, rhabdomyosarcoma, acute lymphoblastic leukemia, or non-Hodgkin's lymphoma. PURPOSE: This randomized phase III trial is studying glutamic acid to see how well it works compared to a placebo in reducing nerve damage caused by vincristine in young patients receiving vincristine for Wilms' tumor, rhabdomyosarcoma, acute lymphoblastic leukemia, or non-Hodgkin's lymphoma.

To evaluate the safety and efficacy of pregabalin in reducing neuropathic pain associated with HIV neuropathy
Study to determine if pregabalin is more effective than placebo in treating subjects with nerve pain associated with HIV neuropathy.
The purpose of this study is to determine whether individuals with diabetic peripheral neuropathy can learn to change the way they walk in order to reduce the pressures underneath the feet, which may lead to a reduced risk of foot ulceration.
Patients with breast cancer receiving paclitaxel chemotherapy who have mild symptoms of peripheral neuropathy will receive glutamine or placebo to try and improve symptoms.
The efficacy of fentanyl TTS for the treatment of neuropathic pain remains to be established, although opioids in general are clearly effective for neuropathic pain and fentanyl TTS has been shown to be effective for treating other types of pain. We propose to measure functional outcomes, pain relief and side effects of fentanyl TTS for the treatment of neuropathic pain. Measures will be made at baseline and after titrating the drug to an effective level.
HIV is associated with painful peripheral neuropathy. Disability is often significant. Alpha-Lipoic Acid's antioxidant properties may have benefit in this condition.
