Filter by:Exercise during chemotherapy (CT) is a promising strategy to reduce fatigue and improve health-related quality of life (HRQoL). Exercise may also have beneficial effects on tumor outcome by decreasing insulin resistance, inflammation, and by modulating various pro-tumoral signalling pathways. It has been shown to reduce mortality in breast and colorectal cancer adjuvant setting. This study aims to explore the effects of adapted physical activity (APA) in patients with resected pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC).
Multicentric, international, web-based prospective documentation of the indications and results of Pressurized Aerosol Chemotherapy (so-called PIPAC or PITAC) for treating malignant pleural and peritoneal diseases. Indication is decided by the treating physician. There are no predefined inclusion or exclusion criteria.
Pancreatic cancer and cholangiocarcinoma are the most common causes of malignant biliary obstruction. They are diseases of increasing incidence and unfavorable prognosis. Only a minority of patients have a localized disease and are indicated for surgery with a chance of long-term survival. Locally advanced and metastatic tumors are treated with palliative chemotherapy or chemoradiotherapy; the results of such treatments are unsatisfactory. The average survival of patients with unresectable disease is 6 months and only 5 - 10 % of patients survive 5 years. Chemotherapy and radiotherapy can be used, however only with a palliative effect. Biliary drainage is an integral part of palliative treatment. Endoscopically or percutaneously placed stents improve quality of life, decrease cholestasis and pruritus, but do not significantly improve survival. Biliary stents get occluded over time, possibly resulting in acute cholangitis and require repeated replacement. Endoluminal biliary photodynamic therapy (PDT) and radiofrequency ablation (RFA), locally active endoscopic methods, have been increasingly used in recent years in palliative treatment of patients with malignant biliary obstruction. In photodynamic therapy, improved survival has been shown in two randomized controlled trials; however the technique suffers from technical complexity, high cost and low availability. In RFA, application of low voltage high frequency current during radiofrequency ablation results in tissue destruction by heat. Its antitumor effect may also be related to systemic changes in antitumor immunity. The use of endoluminal biliary RFA has so far been reported only in small retrospective cohorts of patients. The aim of this randomized study is to compare efficacy of RFA plus stenting to stenting alone in palliative treatment of malignant biliary obstruction with survival as primary outcome. Secondary outcomes are stent patency, immediate and late complications, quality of life and effects on anti-tumor immunity in the RFA group.
This study will evaluate patients' experiences with having gynecologic or prostate medical oncologists and surgeons offer them genetic testing, and having genetic counselors return the test results to patients over the telephone. This is different from the usual approach to genetic testing, where gynecologic or prostate medical oncologists and surgeons refer their patients to a genetic counselor in order to have these tests done, and the genetic counselors return the test results to the patient in person or over the telephone. The investigators will only be evaluating this alternative way of providing genetic testing to ovarian or prostate cancer patients.
The purpose of this study is to establish a registry of patients with pancreatic diseases. Patients included in the registry may include those with: pancreatic cancer, precancerous lesions of the pancreas, inflammatory lesions of the pancreas, cystic lesions of the pancreas, and patients at high-risk of pancreatic cancer such as those with a family history of pancreatic cancer or with a family history of a syndrome known to be associated with pancreatic cancer. Pancreatic cancer is the fourth leading cause of death from cancer in the United States. However, little is known about the development of pancreatic cancer and pancreatic diseases in individuals with the above conditions. Knowledge of how family history, environmental exposures, and inflammatory lesion of the pancreas contribute to the development of pancreatic cancer and pancreatic diseases is essential. You may qualify to take part in this research study because you have inflammation in the pancreas, a pancreatic cyst, pre-cancerous lesions of the pancreas, pancreatic cancer, a family history of pancreatic cancer, or a family history of a syndrome known to be associated with pancreatic cancer. We will also be collecting a blood sample from all participants for DNA isolation. Sometimes we are born with genes or DNA that give us an increased or decreased chance of developing an illness later in life. Genetic material will be isolated from your blood for further study. You may also choose to provide additional blood samples for serum and plasma extraction. Serum and plasma are components of the blood which can be used to measure indicators of disease in the blood, called biomarkers,for pancreatic diseases. Clinical data and biological specimens contained in this study may be used for a wide variety of future related studies to the cause, diagnosis, outcome and treatment of pancreatic cancer. This study is evaluating stereotactic radiosurgery (CyberKnife) plus chemotherapy for the treatment of potentially resectable adenocarcinoma of the pancreas
The main purpose of this 3-part study is to evaluate the safety and efficacy of the study drug known as LY2880070 in participants with advanced or metastatic solid tumors.
Currently, for patients with pancreatic cancer the standard treatment is surgery followed by chemotherapy and/or radiation therapy. An investigational approach is to perform the surgery and treat the area of the tumor with intraoperative radiotherapy in one procedure. Intraoperative radiation delivers low energy x-rays to a targeted area during the time of tumor removal. The purpose of this study is to learn about both the good and bad effects of adding intraoperative radiation therapy. Another goal is to determine and compare the quality of life before and after the procedure. We will also monitor the effect of the therapy on the cancer lesion and any complications that may result.
Johns Hopkins clinical research office quality assurance group will monitor and audit this study at Johns Hopkins. The Sub Investigator at each site will be responsible for internal monitoring at their site.
Background: - Recent advances in cancer research have led to new therapies to treat the disease. It is important to continue these advances and discover new ones. To do that, researchers need tissue samples from solid tumors. This study will collect such samples from people already scheduled to have a procedure at the National Institutes of Health Clinical Center (NIHCC). Objectives: - To collect tissue samples for use in studying new ways to treat tumors. Eligibility: - Adults 18 years and older, with a precancerous or cancerous solid tumor who are scheduled to have surgery or a biopsy at the NIHCC. - Children under the age of 18 but who are older than 2 years of age are eligible to be enrolled on the research sample collection portion of this study if they will have a biopsy or surgery as part of their medical care. Design: - Before their procedure, participants will have a small blood sample taken. - Some participants will undergo leukapheresis. In this procedure, blood is removed through a tube in one arm and circulated through a machine that removes white blood cells. The blood, minus the white blood cells, is returned through a tube in the other arm. The procedure takes 3-4 hours. - For all participants, during the surgery or biopsy, pieces of the tumor and pieces of normal tissue near it will be removed for this study. The rest of the tumor or precancerous growth will be sent to a lab for analysis. - Participants will return to the clinic about 6 weeks after the operation for a routine checkup. Some may have to return for additional follow-up.
