The Effects of Virtual Reality Based Exercises in Patients With Adhesive Capsulitis

Musculoskeletal disorders such as adhesive capsulitis (AC) affect tissues such as muscles, bones, joints, tendons and ligaments and are the second most disabling condition worldwide. Musculoskeletal Systemic disorders are typically characterized by pain, limitations in joint range of motion or functional ability. Existing studies have shown that Virtual Reality (VR) is beneficial in pain management for example; pain relief during dressing changes in burn patients. VR can also reduce anxiety, distract from the fear of pain, and reduce stress. It can distract the patients who are afraid of moving due to pain and enable them to move freely. In this study, AC patients will be treated with VR application. Patients pain levels, upper extremity range of motion, functional activity levels and quality of life levels will be evaluated. A total of 36 patients will be included in the study. This observational randomized controlled study will contribute to the literature by investigating the effects of VR based exercises in individuals with AC.

Transcranial Photobiomodulation as a Therapy for Patients With Parkinson's Disease: Relationship Between Pain and Brain Functional Connectivity (FBM)

Parkinson's disease is a progressive and degenerative neurological movement disorder that affects thousands of people. The disease is characterized by presenting motor and non-motor symptoms, as the disease progresses, it becomes more disabling, making it impossible for the individual to perform simple tasks. A non-motor symptom increasingly reported by patients and undertreated in clinical practice is pain. During the past few decades, possible neural substrates of pain have been studied extensively, resulting in a potential network of connected brain areas that are believed to underlie pain processing and experience. There is no definitive consensus on all areas involved in such a pain network; however, pain-related regions consistently found across all studies include the thalamus, anterior cingulate cortex (ACC), posterior and anterior insula, amygdala, prefrontal cortex (PFC), secondary somatosensory cortex (IBS), and periaqueductal gray (PAG). With the aim of helping to improve the painful condition, non-pharmacological therapies have been studied, and one of them is phototherapy, a non-invasive method used by several areas of health, which has been shown to be increasingly effective in the treatment of decreased pain sensitivity. The present study aims to evaluate the effects of transcranial photobiomodulation in patients with Parkinson's disease. This is a randomized study, in which investigators will analyze the effect of FBM on pain control and on magnetic resonance images to better elucidate the connectivities of pain areas. Afterwards, the researchers will carry out a better elaboration on the treatments of individuals diagnosed with Parkinson's disease, the researchers will evaluate the pain through questionnaires, and the researchers will also evaluate the motor cognitive capacity of these patients before and after the therapy.

Effectiveness of TKTX Cream on Pain and Fear in Children During Venipuncture: A Randomized Controlled Trial

Venipuncture, the process of obtaining blood samples for diagnostic purposes, is a common medical procedure performed worldwide. However, it can be associated with varying levels of pain and discomfort for patients. Therefore, implementing effective pain management strategies during venipuncture is crucial to ensure patient comfort and improve the overall healthcare experience. This comprehensive overview aims to highlight the significance of pain management during venipuncture procedures. This study will investigate the effects of a pharmacological approach on the pain that children experience during venipuncture in a randomized trial. TKTX topical anesthetic cream is a new commercially available product. In this study, the cream will be used for a shorter period of time than other creams used in previous studies, and it will also be free of side effects as they have been in previous studies with other creams.

The Effect of Butterfly Vacuum Blood Collection Set and Standard Vacutanier Needle on the Level of Pain and Fear

This study was planned to examine the effects of the butterfly vacuum blood collection set and standard vacutanier needle used during blood collection in children on the level of pain and fear. It is a randomized controlled trial.The study will be conducted in the pediatric blood collection unit with children between the ages of 7 and 12 who have undergone blood tests by a pediatrician.Data collection tools: "Descriptive Information Form", "Difficult Intravenous Intervention Score" for Children, "Numerical Pain Scale", "Child Fear Scale" will be used to collect data.The data will be uploaded to the computer and coded by the researchers, and the data will be evaluated in the SPSS package program. The sociodemographic data of the children participating in the study will be given as numbers and percentage distributions. Appropriate tests will be used by analyzing the data for normal distribution. The statistical significance level of the study was determined as p< 0.05. In addition, at the end of the research, the status of working with sufficient sample size will be tested with post-hoc power analysis.

Facilitated Tucking Position, Gentle Human Touch Practices and Pain

This prospective study is planned as a randomized controlled study to evaluate the effect of facilitated tucking position and gentle human touch practices on the pain experienced by newborns during heel blood collection. This study is planned to be carried out between 15 July and 15 December 2023 in the neonatal intensive care unit of a training and research hospital in the Southeastern Anatolia Region. The sample size was calculated based on the study of premature infants to determine the effect of facilitated tucking position on procedural pain. According to the results of the study, PIPP pain scores were determined as 11.88±3.05 in the intervention group (n=17) and 9.06±2.95 in the control group (n=17). The effect size of the study was determined as d= 0.939 at α=0.05 level and 95% confidence interval. It was decided to conduct the study with a total of 90 premature babies, 30 of whom were in the groups, in case of data loss during the study.

Evaluating the Manage My Pain App in Pain Clinics

Chronic Pain is one of the most common reasons adults seek medical care, and has been linked to restrictions in mobility and daily activities, dependence on opioids, anxiety and depression, and poor perceived health or reduced quality of life. Chronic Pain Clinics are an effective solution, however, the resources available and investments have fallen behind the growing needs of patients. Local waitlists have thousands of patients with wait times between 1 to 3 years, with many receiving little to no specialized support while waiting. Tools and technology that can help patients and healthcare providers understand and manage the patients' pain are needed for the effectiveness of the healthcare system. In response to this problem, the Manage My Pain (MMP) App, which allows patients to log daily reflections of functionality, pain, and medication use; as well as, provide educational resources is a potential support for patients on the waitlist. This log is intended to support the patient understanding and management of their pain, and share their reports with their circle of care. This study will assess the impact of MMP on waitlist patients' health outcomes compared to a control group of waitlist patients over 60 days.

Using Virtual Reality (VR) Technology in Gynecological and Obstetrics Procedures

A randomized control trial will be conducted in Assuta Ashdod hospital, in the department of obstetrics and gynecology. Pregnant and non pregnant women, undergoing one of the procedures (external cephalic version,amniocentesis or hysteroscopy), will be approached. All willing patients meeting the criteria will sign an informed consent form will. After signing informed consent patients will be randomly allocated into three groups:1) control (no use of VR). 2) use of VR googles without positive psychology. 3) use of VR googles with positive psychology. Before and after the procedure each group will answer pain and anxiety questionnaires. In addition, following, following each procedure, salivary cortisol levels will be measured.

Battlefield Auricular Acupressure (BAApress) Feasibility Study

The purpose of this research study is to find out what effects (good and bad) acupressure applied to the outside of the ear (Auricular Acupressure), in addition to the standard of care medication regimen, will have on pain. This study is being done to assess whether acupressure in addition to prescribed pain medication may be of benefit in decreasing pain levels and improving overall wellbeing. This study will also evaluate the feasibility of routinely offering acupressure to patients having pain issues in addition to a psychiatric diagnosis.
